Just wondering if any of you know anything about Joel Taylor. I recently re-read an interview with him and he sounds like my kind of player. I checcked out his web-page but wondered if any of you could shed some light or suggest a cd to buy to hear a good example of his playing.

You might want to search the web for two CDs by Jeff Richman: 'Last Arrival' and 'Sand Dance'. Both are pretty nice but 'Last Arrival' is better as far as production IMO. He does a nice job with Frank Gambale on his studio album 'Coming to Your Senses' and also his live 'Resident Alien Live Bootlegs' CD. Joel shares the drum chair with a couple different drummers on each of these.
Which article did you read about Joel? Was in an old issue of 'Rhythm' magazine? If so, that is an excellent article.

Great drum solo in there from Joel in "Letters of Marque" [originally off the IOU album w the fantastic Husband on kit]...you can hear Tony's influence on him...cat has great chops & meter, too. But then you'd expect that from AH. ;c)

Thanks for the info but unfortunately Audiophile is "Out of stock" on that dvd - a real shame.
I think I will start my Joel Taylor quest with Brian Bromberg's Jaco CD as a friend of mine has that.
And yes the interview was from rhythm magazine a few years back - I just reread a bunch of old interviews and that one got my attention.
As I am going through a bunch of Alan Dawson and Gary Chaffee stuff at the moment anyone who studied with those guys is of particular interest.

Heard OF him time and time again in the past. Hearing him play today is a first for me. His Audio section definitly makes me wanna hear more. SOLID PLAYER!! He handles Porcaro's shuffle with Class on "JP's Groove"...
Saw him w/Holdsworth recently. A nice blend of Gadd & Williams. That's what came to my mind as I watched. There's an old thread of the gig somewhere. Joel is a stud! He actually took his shoes off during one song--it was hilarious.
Add Joel to your list of A list cats!
It's just wrong that Joel doesn't get more MD love. It's not like he doesn't have names under his belt or anything. He's one of the in demand live guys in LA. Fantastic player and very nice guy.
It's like Scott Henderson has never been on the cover of any guitar magazine. Uhh...WTF?
Wow, I've never come across this guy before but judging by his resume I sould have! Very impressive indeed. The playing on that video is great too. Cheers for the info guys...
