At the end, during the ceremony scene...should Chewbacca have gotten a medal along with Luke and Han?

It is a bit discriminatory, isn't it...?

Han was the Captain of the ship, Chewie was just a grunt!
And Luke was the Hero (capital letter manditory) who blew up the bad guy. All chewie did was growel a lot and bump his head on things [img]wink.gif[/img]
Did Princess Leah (however you spell it) get a medal? Not!

Good explanation 5cats. Lazy, grunting chewbaccas don't get medals, but they're still cool to be around. The reason Princess Lea didn't get a medal was because she's the one handing them out. COuld you imagine any President giving himself a Purple Heart?

President Dwim: "After catching Osama alive, I will give myself this here Purple Heart for taking his uppercut."

Could you imagine?

And I'd like to point out that Chewie did eventually get his medal. Carrie Fisher gave him one when he got the Lifetime Achievment Award at the MTV Movie Awards in 1997.

I remember reading somewhere that Chewbacca was too tall for the princess to place his medal around his neck at the ceremony. He received it afterwards. :)

I forget where I read that though. I think it was in the Galactic Enquirer or it might've been the Nova. One of those interstellar, tabloid, rags. ;)

I think it follows along the lines of "Let the Wookie Win!" If Chewie wanted his medal with the others than a step ladder would have been procured. But being the shy, spotlight shunning Wookie he is, he opted not to.

I think he is wanted on some world for a transgression with a Ewok anyway. *shrugs*

Chewbacca as a Wallflower...that's something I find hard to believe...I think it was just Lucas was running out of money for props so he shafted the big guy...yeah...that's it...yeah...

Well, he could have gone down on one knee, like when you get knighted, if they REALLY wanted him to have a medal. Of course the whole Ewok thing was just plain silly, and no Ewoks got medals did they?
And why didn't they give a medal to Obe Wan? They could use a hologram generator to place one on his ghostly apperition...
