It seems we have more dead cicadas than live ones right now, so we're going to have to start sweeping them up.
The question is whether or not they're considered yard waste. Do we have to put them in the special brown bags, or can we just use regular plastic.
Anyone?
I would think we bury them as fertilizer
I was going to say just sweep them into the grass.
But i will admit to dispatching many as yard waste over the weekend...they were on the blades of grass that got mowed.....
Unless they open your trash to inspect it how the hell are they even going to know? It's not like it's going to be a bulging bag of grass clippings that is instantly recognizable.
I have heard more than once from"experts" that they make good fertilizer.

Saute them in garlic butter and serve them over rice. A nice white wine would complement such a meal.

Petty? I think our mistake was probably an actionable offense, and Bob and are lucky we weren't put in jail.
See, we were finally cleaning out the basement and garage and found a slew of empty and near empty paint cans. I understand that anything WITH paint is off limits, but I figured that EMPTY cans could go in the trash.
Boy-oh-boy, was I wrong. Empty paint cans will be collected, but ONLY if they're sitting next to the garbage cans so the collectors can see that they're empty. They can't go IN the cans, because... well, I guess because the paint goblins would come and fill them up.
It can't be an environmental thing, because the same truck takes it all.
So, I got to thinking that cicadas are biodegradeable, and therefore should be considered yard waste. But, does the city want a gazillion dead cicadas in their compost heap?
