Does anyone know what's going on with Sandy West? Has she been performing in the L.A. area lately?
Hey Jett Ford, I was just thinking earlier today that I was going to post a topic about Sandy because I have been wondering what was going on with her myself. I read on another board that she had been injured in an auto accident a while back. I didn't know if this was true or not. I think Sandy is an awesome person and musician! I think she tends to get overlooked quite a bit, but I believe she is every bit as talented and dedicated as the rest. I wish she would get the lucky break that she as so deserved over the last many years.
Sandy is really underated as a drummer. If you really listen to her playing she is quite amazing IMO.
She is an incredible drummer, a total powerhouse. I know that not all of The Runaways reached the heights of fame, but the truth of the matter is, (as far as I'm concerned) fame has quite a bit of luck and timing involved. Even more so today, when I look at some of the new musicians who are so passionless. Every so often, one of the truly gifted breaks through--as in Joan Jett's case (it would have been a CRIME if someone who could write and play like that at 15 didn't get recognized) I know SO MANY talented people who keep plugging away, pushing hard, waiting on tables and doing crummy jobs just for the chance to do what they love to do and use the talent that they were blessed with. I don't have an answer, but I do know this: The Runaways have brought me an unmeasureable amount of joy and happiness for the majority of my life. Cherie, Joan, Sandy, Jackie, Lita, Vicki, and seeing Laurie in those "And Now..." videos--all of them. And for that I am forever grateful.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I did read in a magazine today that Sandy apparently has recovered and is starting to perform again.
In what magazine did you read this ?
What has she recovered from ??
And where and what is Sandy performing ?
Please tell me RIGHT NOW.
PS - I love it loud. I love Loudness. I tell you Secrets and that's my boyfriend's in the band.
A recent article about Sandy appears in the Spring 2004 Issue #51 of Rockrgrl magazine called Rhythm Nation: Why Drummers Rule.

Duh, what a dunce I am. At the top right of the message board page there is a pull down menu to show topics from various time periods. I thought the threads were disappearing. Mine defaults to showing topics from the last 20 days, but wait there's more!

It's a pretty good article. Sandy tells about the first time she met Joan Jett. Joan apparently took several buses to Huntington Beach and Sandy and her mother went to the bus station to pick her (and her Sears guitar) up! Also, speaking of magazines...there is a really good magazine that I've seen sold on Ebay that I would recommend to anyone who is a Runaways fan. It's a magazine called 'Crawdaddy'which has them on the cover. It came out around the same time as the Runaways first album. The article is about 7-10 pages long with lots of early photos and gives a lot of background on the girls and how they ended up in the Runaways. I wasn't real thrilled in the manner that it was written -- the journalist seemed to be equally interested in their sexuality as their music -- but, for the most part, I believe the info in the article is pretty accurate.
Hey, Gary:
That Crawdaddy piece is SOME WILD article! I paid i think $20.00 for it in 1995...There's one copy of it on EBAY right now for $50.00 (which i think is NUTS), but it really is a MUST HAVE for a Runaways fan. The pictures are great, the article itslelf, well...Kim Fowley talks about how he wishes Cherie would hang herself from a shower rod or something (can you imagine, saying that about a 16 year old kid?) Lita talks about the kind of guy she likes, Joan talks about a nightmare in which she gets shot, etc etc etc...It's worth having because they're on the cover and there are 8 pages of photos of them. It also shows what they were up against, how a typical reporter viewed them (as oppossed to the music they were playing).
Hi all! just found a pristine speciman of a poster sandy did for ludwig circa1982 . It's from their "stable of stars" promotional pieces that were only given to Ludwig distributors. since I forgot I even had it, I obviously have no need for it anymore, and can't quite toss it in the trash, (me and sandy go way back-can't dis her like that!)so if things such as this are permitted on this board I'd like to offer it up to anybody that makes a reasonable offer for it. if you want more info, email me. [email protected]
If I'm doin something bad by offerin it up here, please forgive me and I'll go away.
