I've decided to save up my pennies! I want to buy a real decent pedal or double pedal. I'm currently looking at an DW 5000 or an Tama Iron Cobra, I've tried out the Tama and was astounded at the feel. But I know that DW make some of the best pedals as well. I know that the DW 9000 is the best but is too expensive for a pedal.Which is better out of the DW 5000 and Tama Iron Cobra?

I have two DW 5000 [Dbl-] pedals [single-chains]...one fr the mid-80's & 1 fr the early 90's...
They are OK, but when I saw the Jo Jo clip, where he's doing the heel-toe-bounce technique thing on the single pedal [& also in Gratton's vids], I realize that he MUST have a longer & wider footboard than my DWs [img]graemlins/grrr.gif[/img] ...& then there's Virg & lang's pedals...what's the best DP on the market today? Any thoughts on this? I am looking into getting an up to date [dbl-] pedal, one that can accomaodate the contempo techniques of dbl kick playing a la Virg, Lang, Minnemann, & Mangini...AWA the contempo rapid single kick tchnq such as Jo Jo & Rick G...thx in adv

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">One thing you can test is put you finger on the "sweet spot" of the pedal and hit , when the beater go back you will notice a Difference between Tama and DW , DW ( 9000 ) have almost nothing to resist while Tama have Some [img]confused.gif[/img] , that help to play faster double [img]wink.gif[/img]Quote:

I have DW 5000 Dbl pedals and recently bought the 9000 and love them. The ONLY complaint I have with DW is there dumb idea to put lock tite on all the screws. Each time that I have had a problem it is on the road and impossible to get apart to repair. I have had to buy new pedals each time and rip them apart when I get home. I hope someone from DW reads this and explains the idea behind all the lock tite. I do own a screw driver and owned old Camco pedals and have never had a problem with a screw coming out and lost. I have heard that a hair dryer will loosen the screw,mmmmm I am bald and dont carry a hair dryer and the wimpy ones in the hotels forget. Had a problem in Denver and Rupps did not even have any tools to get them apart so I got the 9000 then. Have a student that repairs floor sanders and he even had a problem getting them out and he takes out rusted coated with little tiny bits of wood and had to pop a couple of the screw heads off and then drill them out. So easy to do in the morel room before the next gig. Otherwise I love DW pedals. Thanks for listening to me rant. [img]mad.gif[/img] [img]cool.gif[/img]
If you find yourself in that problem of getting a screw out with loctite, use a hairdryer on the screw first, heat it up then try backing the screw out. Should do the trick.
Tried that trick in Vail before Denver the next day.......2 beers and 20 minutes of hair dryer and no use.2 beers at that elevation work really well, but the hair dryer did nothing. Even the burly road manger and his big ass screw driver could not loosen them......One or 2 would turn but the rest were frozen in place. Buddy said a little drop would do and looked like they held the tube of lock tite over the holes and filled away and then put the screws in.
BTW ....LA guys I will be in town at Cafe Boogaloo on Nov 20. Will Post the itinerary for the tour that starts Oct 8 in Denver and go across to Florida and back again to LAs Vegas, San Diego and then LA and back to Portland to my own bed then. Maybe we can hook up for a beer if anyone is free. Will keep everyone posted.
All I can say is that between the two I would go for the iron cobra, since I personally very much dislike dw pedals. I've owned a couple and played on countless ones; and it's ALWAYS the same thing for me, with all of the fancy-schmancy ball bearing technology, all you wind up with is the nasty feeling that the pedal is playing you and not vice versa...and that's not how it should be...
Best buy I ever did for a pedal was the cheapest pearl one... great feel, no hassle, and especially the fact that I'm not feeling like I'm not the one doing the actual playing.. which is the case w/ dw for me....
If you can somehow get the money together to buy the DW9000's......... I think they are the cat's meow.
I saw Gregg Bisonette at La Ve Lee in Sherman Oaks California several months ago. Been years since I've seen him. After the gig I went up to him to say hi and saw his new B.D. pedals. I asked "what were those??". Greg sez, "they're the new Titanium DW 9000's". Said he loved them. After that I was on a mission to find me a set (double pedals). Turns out the "Titanium" pedals were a limited edition (only 200 or so pedals made). So at guitar center, I spend something like 4 hours setting up all the different pedals on a decently tuned kit. The DW9000 pedal is definetly the bomb. If you look at the main fixture as to where the pivot is, it is beefcake. It makes the DW pedal ultra solid, and therefore very sensitive. The sprocket for the beater spins on the shaft using huge sealed Japanese precision bearings rather than the whole shaft turning in the tower housings with small bearings. Gives a great center of gravity feel. I can do stuff on my DW pedal that I cannot on my Yamaha's. It has more adjustments than an electric side view mirror. I run the pedal box stock and love it to death. If there is any way you can get the DW, I highly recommend it. Maybe you can get a used one on E-bay?? Good luck man.
