I like some of U2's music here and there, but I did about puke when I heard the title of their album. I don't think it gets much more pretentious than that. [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img]

Of course, they can run around disarming all the atomic bombs they want.... if they can find any. I'm pretty sure most of the major bomb building countries are using hydrogen bombs these days. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Note: This is a poke at U2's politics, not an attempt to debate nuclear weapons or actual bomb technology. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Pretty...except for the part where they have the stations play one new song an hour for 3 days. It's bad enough that the dj's usually play old U2 twice a shift, now I get to hear them after every third or fourth commercial break.

Won't work that way. Radio stations get sets to play. If they play something outside the set, they pay more. The only exclusions to the rule are college stations...

BTW-I like their older stuff but don't know much beyond Joshua Tree. I pretty much ignored them after that.

I"m pretty surprise of how many U2 hater I see here.

I'm not shy to say I personnaly think U2 is an important part of music history. I liked them a lot up until "Achtung Baby" lost total confidence in them with the last album (all that you can leave behind) wich was really really bad except for 3 songs. But "Vertigo" the first official single for the new release sounds mighty great to me.

Granted, the break from hearing the same tired Rush, AC/DC, and Nirvana "classics" is certainly welcome, and the new stuff ain't bad, but who else would have the arrogance to put an album of singles on the air? Audacious as that is, it seems enough of their lyrics must have the magical power to heal the world and restore peace, love, and tree-hugging to the masses, because the motivation can't possibly be money...

What happened was they released their one "single".

The album got leaked on the internet.

So, (I assume) to save the radio stations from being ignored, they released one song a day to them as a new "single".

It wasn't them releasing them all as singles because they thought they were all great.

(as they shouldn't, because they all happen to suck)

I used to be into U2 until Bono started believing his own press too much (Basically around 'Joshua Tree'.) I liked the song they did for 'Batman Forever'(It was better than the film , anyway.) in the mid ninties, but other than that , they haven't turned anything out that
has done much for me. I still LMAO when Rollins talks about Bono in his books "He's the arch enemy--he must be destroyed." etc.. [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
