OK, someone on this board mentioned that their turbo setup stuttered... just like mine... at hi-throttle but low rpm... just when it gets into boost... whoever that was, please reply... I need to know what turbo you use... exact model, trim etc... Mine does this and today we've pretty much figured it's cuz we're over the surge limit...
-
I have had some stuttering outta the t3/t4 b trim... some of it was clutch slipping, what do you think it is?
-
compressor surge.... looks like as if it wants to push more air at whatever psi ... and the engine isnt flowing the proper amount until it gets into higher RPM... i have the H trim ... stage 3...
-
What do you mean over the surge limit? I thought compressor surge only happended when the throttle plate was closed. Why don't you have a Blowoff valve to prevent this?

yeah i have a BOV .... but if you look at compressor maps you'll see what i mean... it's basically the volume of air is more then what the engine can "eat" so-to-speeak)... and thus it climbs over the surge limit... kinda weird... I gots to talk to Turbonetics about this some more...
-
i believe that i am the one that said that.it had nothing to do with the turbo at all.it was because of the crappy fuel pressure riser.as soon as you go under boost,it dumps a crapload of fuel at once(at least mine and a couple of friends and customers did)causing an extremely rich mixture, thus the "stutter".get rid of the fuel pressure riser.it is only a "band-aid" fix.get a good regulator like sx,vortech, etc.get bigger injectors and a fuel controller like an apexi afc or something.have it tuned by a tuner with a dyno and that should do it.
-
Oh, well I guess your situation is different... because i dont use a fuel pressure riser anymore... i went the route with big injectors and an Apexi AFC... and i know what you're talking about though... when mine is cold, even with the AFC, it'll bog down log for a second.. once when it's cold.... but this is something else... if im cruising on the highway.. ex, 4th gear... going slow, say 70km/h, or whatever it is to get the rpm's at 3000... and then floor it.. the boost picks up and the compressor goes into the wacked out surge pulse .... and of course HP goes down the toilet at this point...howver if i start floorring it after the rpms reach 4000... then it's fine and the car pulls like a banchee.... I dont believe it's an overly rich situation at the start of boost since i can flood it on demand should i adjust my AFC as such... and when i've done that, the thing just bogs.... but this situation is different.. i can actually hear the air being blown out (in reverse) from the compressor.... Im thinking i have the wrong wheel in there... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

sorry,i am just used to people here using the riser.my problem went away when i went with bigger injectors(720)and a stand alone unit(haltech).i have never had the problem you are having.call reed at turbo specialties 205-444-5011.are you sure it is not just lag?

I know what you are talking about MDA.
I have a spreadsheet that calculates the engine's mass-air consumption over RPM and boost. Charts and graphs it out.
If you have the compressor map for the T04B H-trim, then you can find out for sure if you are under the sirge limit at certain RPM/boost levels.

TurboTypeR,
Nope it's not lag... the thing is super quick to spool... it's such a sweet turbo itself.... but i think the volume is wrong.. we were looking at compressor maps and that's what it's looking like... Im over the surge limit... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
MarkC... thanks for the spreadsheet... i'll check that out for sure..
