Anyone else hear about this? Some guy ran up on stage at a pantera show with a gun. He killed the guitar player and some audience members before a police officer shot him dead.
I just had a rant about violence at the social d show in atlanta not that long ago. What's up with this??

We're going through a crazy wave of violence right now in Tampa bay. Experts say it's the social stress from the hurricanes, but I don't buy it, why isn't it happening all over the state? I just think it's a sign of the times.
In the last month we had someone open fire inside a radio shack killing 4, an insurance adjuster was raped and hacked up, some crazy bitch ran some teenagers down in her SUV because they accidentally hit her car with a golf ball they were bouncing in a parking lot one is in critical, some crack head wrecked his car and then started shooting a pistol in the middle of a mall parking lot and then out into the road like he was playing GTA and was shot by an off duty ATF agent when he approached his van, some college kids got killed in a SubWay robbery, and a woman was murdered, motive unknown, and her house set on fire to cover it up. There's probably more... but that's alot for a 4 week period.
My friend was supposed to go to that show but got called into work the night before, he had invited me to go but I declined, I loved Pantera, but didnt care for damageplan a whole lot.
Good thing huh?
He killed a roadie, shot dimebag 4-6 times point blank, shot at vinnie paul but missed, then turned on the crowd, shot 2 audience members before the cop got there (2 min later) and droped the guy as he had a gun to a hostages head.
Score 1 for the local police.

What happened to Dimebag saddened me beyond almost any point. It really puts things in perspective about how valuable life really is.
On a side note, I hope that peice of shit that took 4 innocent lives, burns in hell for eternity.
A net buddy of mine works for the CBS affiliate in Providence and he had to cover that Great White fire, which he called "horrifying". Sad to hear about Diamond errr Dimebag. Never really a fan but I dug their cover of Planet Caravan.

I mean, I never even heard damageplan, but I was a pantera fan. saw 'em twice. they were great both times.
more than anything, its just the way it happened. and that it happened at all. I'll never bitch about security patting me down or diggin in my purse at a show ever again. and this all happened on the anniversary of the john lennon shooting. coincindence? maybe.
sorry to ramble, but this has been on my mind all day. i cant imagine how the people who were there and the families of the victims are feeling right now, if i, a complete stranger who had nothing to do with the event, am so affected by it.
this whole thing is truly fucking disgusting, and the shit on ebay is just insane, how fucking disrespectful.

this story made me sick. some of you wonder why Mike Ness gets so angry when somebody throws a bottle onstage? This is the most extreme of circumstances but its like jennifunk said, for these performers, onstage is very sacred ground. the performers are completely unable to defend themselves. I cant even imagine how horrible this would have been to witness. Makes me about as sick as the great white show tragedy last year in Rhode Island.

Truly a sad day, and a loss for the metal scene. I'm not much of a metal head at all, but I used to like Pantera a few years back when I was in college. Dimebag was definatly an inovator in the metal guitar world. I honestly can't believe this happened. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
It's tragic when this happens to anyone. Why is this any different than when some innocent kid gets gunned-down in your own town? How come there aren't any threads started when that happens?
Just playing devil's advocate for a second - but it is something to ponder. I can't stand Pantera and never heard the new band - but that doesn't lessen the tragedy now, does it? His fame shouldn't increase it, either.
i got the word that this guy died by my cousin who is in a band called stife and they r good friends with pantera and this guy he called me and told me he use to hang out with these guys and drink he told me its like loosing a brother we have lost a lot of punk but not too many like what happend to him
the world is becoming more and more fucked.
If security would have done their job and done a proper pat down or metal detector type search this could have been prevented. Seriously when are venues going to quit fucking around and get serious about security rather than hire the meatheads from the local college football team.
As for the person opening fire in a Radio Shack.... now that I can understand.

This reminds me of the 911 5k death event. People were sad because they felt related or knew people slain therein. Similarly, many of you know or admire these other fellows who were destroyed. How many people on this board go to shows? Im willing to bet all or most of them. Now, how many of us think "oh shit, Im not goin to that show because I might get shot". Well unless your going to a fuckin 50cent show or some shit, Im willing to bet the thought has never crossed our minds when getting ready for a social d or other show.
You never think you have to wear a kevlar vest under your favorite tshirt when going out to see a band.
This is tragic because it is unexpected. And the fact that the media was all over it, has brought it to alot of peoples attention, who otherewise, would have never known or given two shits about it.
I dont see the news covering the dieing kids in congo. Ever. And I'm sure if they did, people would be upset about that too. But ya know what, all of the grieving and feeling sorry in the world isnt going to change what happened to Dimebag, or the little shits who are dieing all over the world. okay?
Doesnt mean their lives are worth any less than his. But the media has a morbid obsession with celebrity. In turn, we will be forced to hear about events like this (some as bad, some not) for the rest of our lives. Media is a business my friend, they dont want to bore people with the real news, which people like you and me are forced to search for ourseleves. they want ratings, and something like this is sure to get them.
Once again, my heart goes out to the families and friends of those who were killed that night.

Oh yeah and Smaug the Golden do the board a favor and refrain from using such big words in your rants. It confuses those of us who arent nearly the intellectual equivelent of such a fat head as yourself.

hindsight is always 20/20 right? Im sure if the security last week in ohio could go back in time, they would tackle that guy before he made it inside even if he was a "big guy". The same goes for United airlines. Im sure they would have installed locked bullet proof doors on sept 10th if they knew what was going to happen the next morning. Im sure president kennedy would have ridden in a bullet proof motorcade while parading through downtown dallas.
Every tragedy can be prevented in some way, but as humans, with our own brand of logic, we think to ourselves "that will never happen" then it almost certainly does.
We can stay locked up in our homes and worry or we can get out there and live our lives. If someone is going to do us wrong, they will find a way, no matter what precautions we strive to take.

And keep in mind thats just the stuff they deem important enough to put in the newspaper...a story that didn't make the news was the lone(odd huh) nazi skinhead at the dr.know show wearing a skrewdriver jacket that was stabbed so badly he ended up having his arm amputated later at the hospital. I used to use that same stage entrance to sneak into shows there all the time in high school.

If that club doesn't body check or search...what good does a civil lawsuit against a security guy really do. That club seems more liable to me. Clubs do need to take more responsibility for protecting bands & fans. When I was at Social D's September Seattle show, we were in the bar drinking a couple hours before the show. The security came back through to get tickets & did another body search on us before the show started. Everything was sealed...no patios & fences to jump!
