Abe & Friends at NAMM

I received an e-mail newsletter from Worship Alliance regarding Abe Laboriel and friends in concert during the NAMM show. It doesn't mention who the drummer will be though. Possibly, Vinnie?

On the e-mail, there is a picture of Vinnie, so one would presume he would be there, but not entirely sure. As they came to the UK in the summer and Sheila E was on drums.

im heading out to NAMM this jan for the first time....cant wait!

who else is going?....maybe we can have an international HOD drink!!

any advice from veteran NAMM guys on the show? where to stay etc?

du think i'll be going in everyday, r there always different shows etc happening?

Louie, I will be there all week, Monday thru Sunday. Let's definetly hook up. LADanny will be there and I spoke with Derek last night and he will be there.
During the day a typical NAMM experience is the same, what changes is whom you might see walking around or signing stuff at booths or maybe giving a brief performance at a booth, Pearl had a kewl sound booth last year as did Evans featuring the Peter Erskine quartet.
It's at night that things come alive, first with the after NAMM hang over at the Hyatt in the bar, that's where you run into EVERYONE........then it's off to dinner and a company sponsered show.
You will have fun guaranteed.
Where to stay? Go to NAMM.com or NAMM.org, there are listings of all the hotels surrounding the convention center, which for the most part are within walking distance.

Just so you know, Glenn Noyes told me that Yamaha Groove Night is NO MORE.... But, definetely check out the Sabian show on Friday. Weckl will probably open it, as he did in years past.

I'll be going as a media representative for basstasters.com, so I'll be there.

a friend was generous to pick up tickets for me. i haven't seen vinnie in a while, so it should be a treat. now if i could only get in to the sabian night, or the yamaha groove night!

I will be there for sure! I am totally down for getting together with all that are coming... Lets figure out a day that we can all be there and make it happen. I am going to be at the Istanbul Booth on Friday, so check in to say hi!

yeah, that would be great to meet everyone. i just need to finalise that i can get a pass from zildjian and that my friend is actually coming etc etc....but all should go well and im looking forward to it.

Well I'm not entirelly confident on having a pass for this year. I did the meet and great thing a few times.. However I live bout 7 mins from the convention center. If anyone plans on meeting up outside the pass area's (for now) I'd love to say hello.

Perhaps a "international HoD drink" at Catalina's with some weckl in the background is in order.

I don't have any more information than what I posted. If I hear anything new, I will post it on HOD.

I believe an HOD hang at NAMM should be mandatory, similar to the dinner another drum forum does at the sametime.
We could meet in the morning, do your thing during the day, then hook up later just before the show closes.
Another kewl thing would be to have a 'video' hang and watch videos from hell like tons of Vinnie, Weckl and whatever else we can throw in........a few of us on here did that last year staying up to like 1 or 2am.........

Lets select a night to meet or the same place each night for those who don't go daily. Maybe each day at noon we could have a HOD lunch hang, all meeting by the Zildgian booth or ______? The video/DVD drum blow sounds great. Lastly, I might be able to get a place to sleep for some only minutes from the show--just a guest house room to knock off for a few hours. Let me check into this. My uncle lives minutes from the NAMM location.

Is there a website for NAMM? What is this Sabian Night all about?

For those of you who have not been at the NAMM show in Anaheim, first of all, it's a Tradeshow, open to the industry only.
retailers from the US, Canada and other countries visit NAMM to purchase new instruments and to see what's new from around the globe.

The excitement for most of us as musicians, is that most major instrument companies invite their artists (endorsers) to their booths during the day, and also have their artists perform in different parties at night !

So, if you are not part of the industry, you have to know someone in the industry that can get you a pass. (Not always an easy task !)

The shows during the evenings are put on by the companies. Usually the companies that put on an evening are: Sabian, LP, Zildjian, Yamaha, Tama, etc.

Sabian has an interesting night at one of the Anaheim hotels. Last year they had the Dave Weckl Band, John Blackwell, etc, and just about always finish with Joey Heredia and his trio plus santana's Raul Rekow and Karl Perazzo ! Two years ago I was happy to see Tower of Power with Dave Garibaldi perform for an hour !

Check out the LP party (if they have one this year). You will see guys like Giovanni Hidalgo, Richie Garcia, The Reys Family and even Sheila E. (Toca is owned by the same distributor - Kaman).

I also heard that Yamaha will not put on their famous Groove Night.

During the day, you can get to meet so many star-drummers at the booths such as Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, Yamaha, Tama, DW, and many more .

At any rate, NAMM attracts about 70,000 visitors.

If Abe is indeed performing with Vinnie I'd recommend to go see them. I saw them perform last year and they were smokin'

If you havent seen Abe before, be prepared for a very emotional man. He would cry nearly between every song of the gig - can be touching at times.

can u buy stuff at the show?? virgil has a new book coming out and a new signature snare in time for the show,.,....im eager to check those out. plus those weird new DW pedals.....

sometimes you can buy books/videos, but the last few years they have been holding that down. Mostly you can buy swag.
Sunday, the last day is usually when if a manufacturer has any product left that was not sold to a dealer will get sold since many times it's more a hassle for the company to rebox stuff up outside of their sets and ship it back.

again, they are based on Box flex principles. no hinges, springs, 1 adjustment.
