I play the James Bond Theme pretty well... but would probably have a tougher time with the Beverly Hillbillys because I don't play country.
Why guitar people always begin playing the PETER GUN theme ?
i've mastered none and i struggle with all. i am mediocrity at it's finest.
well-known theme?
fuck, the only one I can think of is the old Batman theme...
unless Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser" counts...

I promised myself I would never forget how to play "Little Wing" no matter how long I go in between playing. I play my own painfully white version.
I have mastered "The Munsters Theme..." Pretty sad for 30 years playing.
I tried to play some Danny Gatton...that's like running alongside a Ferrarri and trying to race it by foot....when Danny takes off...whew.
well, those being the only themes I know...
I never spent a lot of time learning other peoples' music.
just wrote my own.

I do tons of TV themes... it's nice to throw those out in between songs... people seem to like it, but i always make them my own, which i feel every musician should do when they cover something. I've got a killer accoustic version of the Spiderman thing, slowed way down, minor key... very depressing
I've even done a hero medley, with spidey, batman, a-team, and greatest american hero... The best part about that is people always start to shout out more themes, and you can always try to throw them out by ear, and if you fuck up it's still good entertainment if you have fun with it...
As for the peter gunn theme... i think suckass guitarists like to play that one because it's only 5 notes on one string all within 5 frets... but then, they're only playing the bassline...

You're right about covers. I like to surprise people with covers. for instance, the last few I did during gigs were Duran Duran's THE CHAUFFEUR wich is normally pretty much vocals and a ton of keyboards sounds. But I do it vocal and guitar only and it works really really well.
I'm also doing a vocal/accoustic guitar version of The Cure's IN BETWEEN DAYS that works really well too. Last weekend I practiced 3 new songs of really different style but that will still fits with my type of gigs: Elvis A Little Less Conversation, Black Sabbath's Changes and Soggy Bottom Boys'S Man of Constant Sorrow

my fave is Voices Carry by T'il tuesday. Sing it doing a Brad Roberts inpersonation and it rocks
I always liked taking an 80's metal tune and turning it into a "folk meets ska" kinda thing...
