The great doll dilemma

I agree that this all gets pretty hard as far as making decisions and trying not to lose out on something like a LE doll or outfit. As much as I want to get Elizabeth the minute she comes out, I may have to wait on her, as my DD wants Marisol and I will need to funnel my $$ into her and her outfits. I figure I can wait until at least this time next year to get Elizabeth, based on Nellie's availability this year.
Also, I don't think it is silly to have Josefina and Marisol because it is so nice to have a Today girl to show off some of the awesome modern outfits (especially since you are a dancer!). Also, if they do come out with a friend doll for Josefina, you don't know if she will appeal to you until you see her. My DD is excitedly talking about getting Ruthie if and when she comes out, yet she has almost no interest in getting Nellie (this is the DD who will be getting Samantha for her upcoming birthday, so that could change). Plus it is hard to say for sure if they will get around to making friend dolls all around and how long it will take. Well, I know it is a hard decision. Good luck in coming up with a solution!

I'm with Chauster. I learned the hard way with Kailey. I tried to be strict and say that DD could only collect for Kit since there was historical/educational value in it. DD saw Kailey and wanted one. I made her wait. In return we had to pay ebay prices for a brand new Kailey this month!

I say, if you want Marisol even the slightest bit, get her. If it turns out you don't like her and decide you don't want to keep her, you can always sell her after she's discontinued and make a pretty penny. But I guarantee, it's once she's gone that you'll want her desperately and regret not getting her while you had the chance! I hemmed and hawed over getting Lindsey shortly before she was discontinued and decided against it, only to find myself hunting down a Lindsey on ebay six months later and paying extra. It's after things are no longer available to us that we want them the most!

WOW Becca...reading your post was like reading what's been going through my mind since Marisol came out!!!! I'm a dancer too and I LOVE the today girl outfits (I've collected quite a few so far, and they're SO not right for Felicity), so Marisol has been quite appealing for me. But I've had Felicity for almost ten years, and in my childhood I never wanted another doll...so I really do want to wait for Elizabeth, but Marisol just seems too perfect! (Plus...and I'm rationalizing here...assuming Elizabeth has the Kaya face mold, they'll have three different face molds and hair colors...)

I really want Marisol too. I'll probably ask for her for my birthday in May...even though my mom really doesn't like her. [img]redface.gif[/img] I guess I'm not much help here...but I'm going through the EXACT same doll dilemma! [img]wink.gif[/img] I also dread not getting Marisol and then wishing desperately that I had...oh, consumerism is plaguing me!!! [img]confused.gif[/img]

Do other people do that - buy outfits for dolls they don't have? I just couldn't pass it up, and since it's handmade, it's not exactly going to be available to me next year. Anyway, the coupon is the other reason I'm wrestling with this now. I know I could save a lot of money using it. However, I think my boyfriend will declare me insane when he sees the continual stream of AG packages arriving. [img]wink.gif[/img] I have gone through this before with small things, like the Paisley dress. I lucked out and got the last one from AGPC, but I know getting a Marisol later would be expensive. I have had my Felicity for about 10 years. She is my only doll, and for the longest time I only bought things from her collection. Lately, I've branched out into some AGT stuff because I have most of her current items (all except the furniture). I am eagerly awaiting the release of Elizabeth. Though it was nice having the one special doll growing up, now that I'm older I think she needs an 18" friend, and Elizabeth obviously makes sense.

However, Marisol has created a bit of a problem for me. She's gorgeous! I am a dancer, and I will probably end up at least getting her outfits. I really like her as well, but the whole LE thing has me worried. I wanted Elizabeth to be the next doll I got. However, Marisol probably won't last until the end of the year, and that means I can't really wait until after Elizabetht to get her. I also really like the historicals, and am unsure about getting an AGT at all, even if she is LE. In fact, I've been considering Josefina as my next historical for a while now. It seems sort of silly to have both - unless I pretend that Marisol is from Josefina's time too. I think having the trio of Felicity, Elizabeth, and Marisol might be weird, but if Marisol acted as Josefina's friend, then it would be more balanced (does that make any sense?). So, do you think that AG will make an "official" friend doll for Josefina? It seems like it would be hard for AG to make friends for all the dolls, but I suppose it's possible.

Anyway, sorry this is kind of rambling, but any opinions/advice you all could offer would be great.

I think they are going to make friends for all the Historicals. They just might take their time in releasing them.

I would get Marisol if you really want her. She looks so much like Josefina and you could turn her into a Josefina. That's what I was planning on doing. Later on, you will be paying double for Marisol through ebay.

And also get Elizabeth [img]wink.gif[/img] I can't wait until she comes out!

I agree with Lynet, you should get Marisol now if you can. You can then see her in person, items are always different when you see them in person. I've had many situations where I thought I didn't like something, until I see it in person and then I do like it afterall, the opposite has happened as well. If you get her now, you can even use a coupon code, whereas if you wait, Ebay prices can get enormous (happened to me with Lindsey).

I am not that interested in AGT. I only bought the Asian one because there were no Asian historicals. But I feel in love with Marisol. Like Ubarose said, now I can't imagine not having a modern doll. Although Marisol wears Molly's clothes in our house.

Go ahead and get Marisol! She is absolutely darling.

I'm not an AGOT person. I much prefer the historicals. However, I have decided that if each LE appeals to me, I'll go ahead and get her.

And I think Marisol would make a perfect Josefina. We have Josefina, and I don't care for her as much as Marisol. I have been tossing around the idea of using her for Josefina.

And you HAVE to get Elizabeth....especially since Felicity has been with you for so many years.

It's a very slippery slope.....

I originally started into this knowing that I'd want all the historicals, but be very selective on clothing. I only wanted their birthday, christmas and school dresses. And I only wanted AGT items that were sport or dance related that Diana might be interested in, but not AGT doll.

Well, we have Kailey and Lindsey and I know we'll be getting Marisol shortly, so I do like the LE AGT's. The only other one I really want is the Asian AGT. As far as outfits, after my organiation effort this week, our AGT outfits really outnumber the historicals, and I've given up on my original limitations. Now I get what we like, problem is, we like most everything! [img]wink.gif[/img]

I'd offer the same advice to get Marisol. If when Elizabeth comes out and you still don't like or haven't bonded with Marisol, she'll be fetching a pretty penny on ebay and you can apply any extra to Elizabeth and her items too! Good luck!

I'm joining the majority by saying go ahead & get Marisol now. If you decide you don't want to keep her, you can either return her to American Girl or sell her on ebay & put the money to Elizabeth or another doll of your choice.

Marisol really is a beautiful doll. Mine's on backorder right now & is expected to be sent around the first week of February. Can't wait!
