Hey everone.
Was thinking of ordering the 1998 Modern Drummer Festival DVD. Now I'm stuck between choosing from Saturday's and Sunday's DVD. Basically, my main reason for ordering is that I want some Jojo Mayer footage to add to my collection. Which day features outtakes from his clinic? i.e. The ones shown on Drummerworld.com
Basically, I need to know which one has the most footage of him. I'm hoping it's Sunday because that includes the Dave Weckl Band. Would be great to hear from anyone that owns the DVD.
EDIT: Just found this quote from a review: "Jo Jo Mayer from Screaming Headless Torsos performs a solo "tour de force" and plays in a trio setting. " Does this mean Saturday has the clinic part?

Wait, its avaliable on DVD now?! Where are you ordering from?

I am ordering from the Modern Drummer website, but its not specified if its DVD or VHS. I am assuming its VHS in that case...good thing I didn't order yet.

Yeah that footage is all on tape right now. i really wish that all the old tapes were released on dvd...let me tell you something interesting though...Expect a release of the scholarship concert tape on dvd..all the tapes into 1 dvd package..i cant wait!

Yeah the MD 98 AND 97 Festivals onto DVD would be cool. So would the Zildjian day tapes. Anybody know if there are any plans to put these on DVD?

Yeah those are only on VHS right now - but take my advice:
ORDER THE VIDEO WITH JO JO MAYER!!!!!!!!
I have it... it is the most amazing performance you will ever see... his finally is RIDICULOUS (in a "what the hell?!?" kind of good way)!

Thanks for the input Warunki. Good to have that cleared up...Or not, I really wanted that on DVD.
Like you said, from what I hear Jojo's part is one of the most amazing performances on a drumset ever recorded. So which day of the series would you recommend?

Well, to be honest I don't have the video (ANYMORE):
I sold a Modern Drummer Virgil Donati VHS on ebay with the tape of the Jo-Jo drum fest inside the Virgil case... a year passed even though I wanted the guy to send it back to me for the Virg tape... and I bet the reason why he never sent it back was because of JO-JO!!!! Heheheh. True story. Wish I still had it.
Yeah there were two days, the one with Mayer also has Weckl from what I remember, GET MAYER!

I hope someone can tell me which one has more Jojo footage on it. The one with the clinic outtakes is what I need.

As much as i loved JoJo... i loved Will's solo on the other tape so much more... when he comes back in from his solo and goes into the last 8 bars before the band comes in. You can sell me that beat any day, and i'll be buying it!

However, JoJo's one handed roll still freaks me out to the point that i need a diaper!

Very true Matricks. Will's part is utterly disgusting. And like you said, a one-handed roll like that should be illegal.
EDIT: Maybe you can help me out Matricks. The reviews state that Jojo is on both videos. Saturday and Sunday. Which one of the two includes more footage of him and in particular - which has the clinic parts on it?

Mayer is on BOTH videos!? Not that I know of! However the one I had (mentioned above) only had solo performances from what I recall... damn, gotta look into the other day now! For the Will thing too I think! [img]smile.gif[/img]

WEIRD!!!
I have both but i didn't see JoJo on the first one... sounds like a mistake BUT, damn, maybe they snuck a performance of him in at the end that i didn't wait to see. I will go and check but i am thinking that it is a mistake.
JoJo's performance is VERY worth getting... and if you check out Will, on the other vid, talk about a SMOOTH single stroke roll... [img]rolleyes.gif[/img] [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]confused.gif[/img]

Strange that there's a possible mistake in the reviews. They don't even know their own vids...
If you get the chance, please double-check. I guess I will just get the Saturday issue for Will and the Sunday one for Jojo. Keep me updated on your findings!
