the other day... i had a cd basically explode
inside my fucking computer. i do not know
HOW it happened, i just know that i couldn't
eject the fucking tray. so i took the
fucking tower apart and removed the blasted
thing.
after FINALLY getting that bastard open,
chunks upon shards of once-whole cd came
gushing out. i was instantly pissed....
because this was no ordinary cd.... hell no.
it was the ONLY FUCKING CD I HAD WITH ALL
MY BACKUP SHIT ON IT.
sure, 'stupid' you say.... but let's
consider the fact that the sole reason
we back shit up is so we don't have to.
why have backups of backups??? thats inane.
i was upset over it... but of course its
a futile upset because wtf can you do?!?!
so yeah... it's fan-fucking-tastic....
everything i had ever had for years stored
on my pc, then backed up on this cd...
is now gone.
and i mean.... everything.
all of my computer art, all of my pics,
all of the wonderful nuggets of online
worship are now blasted into oblivion.

One of the few TV shows I watch is called Mythbusters... they scientifically prove whether or not myths and urban legends have any grounds to be based upon... they tested the myth of the exloding CD a few weeks back, and found that yes, they do explode from time to time.

thought you were bsing me.... cuz i seriously
had NO IDEA this shit happened and quite honestly,
i was a bit weirded out to post about it.
but yeah... that bastard exploded... and there
were pieces for days... even the gay label
that was on the cd had basically been removed
from the cd.... (which i found really interesting
when pulling out shards of cd and label)
they looked like paint chips [img]tongue.gif[/img]
anyways... while that is fascinating and all..
it doesn't really make me feel better knowing
that all i had once saved... is now gone.
i think its the closest i've ever come to
living through something tragic... like a house
fire or something.... i really miss my shit
and i'll never have it back [img]frown.gif[/img]

On the show they set up a human dummy made from some sort of gelatine which is supposed to be really similar to human skin... so they had him sitting next to the CD drive (which they had overpowered and running without any form of cover) and when the CD exploded shards of the CD went into the dummy... and I'm talking BIG shards, and WAY in. It was pretty scary. But like I said they had the drive spinning way faster than they usually spin... so yeah...

I've heard of this before plus they gave an interesting tip on opening drives manually
there should be a little pin-prick hole on all
drives you use a bent pin (my CDRW came with a hook thing for this) to lever the drive open.
I've just remembered were I read it ... it was in a computer mag a guy was copying at high speed on a low speed disk .... it heated up and exploded.

If all else fails turn to art .... these are a few
that my "don't worry I've got 2mb under run buffer protection" CDRW eject after 2 secs, all be it in one piece but buggered, enter ME + MADAME TUTSIE.

I get alot of comments about them, because they catch the light, but mainly because they are smashed up CD's.

wow.. cds explodong is something ive never heard of.. cds are pretty hard to break.. soo [img]eek.gif[/img]
but mythbusters! i watched it for the first time last night (monday) while at the pizza shop, thats right bean we have a t.v... anyway, they were firing both frozen and un frozen chickens into shit and comparing the results. was pretty funny.
