I suggest a better punishment

Michael Vick

Strip him naked, rub him down with bacon grease and throw him into a pit with the dogs he bred, tortured and mistreated for his sick hobby. See how the sob likes it... I hope he rots in jail.

Does the fact that he's lost millions of dollars in salary, bonuses and endorsements make it seem a little bit more severe?

Marketability=kaput

Plus, there's no sure sign that his career will ever restart after this.

I agree that this doesnt seem like a punishment that fits the crime, but there was pretty much no way he was gonna get the maximum for this.

He'll have to do his time (I'm pretty sure he'll be out in about a year) and then try to rebuild his image and career which wont be easy. And I'm sure probation after release is a part of it as well.

The biggest question is...
WHY WOULD SOMEONE WITH SO MUCH TO LOSE (or anyone else for that matter) GET INVOLVED IN SOMETHING LIKE THIS?!?!?!

I agree with you Greg, a working class person doing it to make money it would be reprehensible enough, but for someone of his wealth and fame it is completely abominable. If he loses everything he owns and can never get back on his feet he deserves it.

If he ends up homeless, in rags, when he gets out he'll get no sympathy from me.

If he contracts AIDS after being forced to be someone's bitch inside, serves him right.

If they find him some morning, after an encounter with a true bad ass, the world will be a better place IMHO.

Wrong as usual, Gae. VICKS mentho-rub is outstanding for a bad cough or chest pains from a cold. You're a mom, you should know that. I even like it in the vaporizer (and yes, I'm talking about my old-school, glass bottle vaporizer; not some plastic tub that supposedly passes for such a thing in this day and age)

Now, as for VICK...so long as his sentence doesn't vary one way or another from what other defendants have gotten in similar cases, I have no problem with it. I never practiced criminal law in the Federal courts, I know they have much more stringent sentencing guidelines than you find at the state levels. I did handle numerous cruelty to animal cases, but never anything for sport.

That's my take on his case individually. Now, as for the grand scheme of things...let me just say the media never cease to amaze me. Especially the sports media which, outside of the entertainment media, are among the lowest forms of life on the planet. ESPN (which, I'm not kidding you, if I could do away with Al-Queda or ESPN, I'd probably choose Al-Queda in the end but it wouldn't be as slam-dunk as you think) did a "town forum" recently. They had a plant in the audience (I trust and hope it was a plant; if it was a legitimately-asked question, then Angels and Ministers of Grace defend us) ask why the NFL was treating the Vick situation differently than Bill Bellichick and the Patriots. It had to be a plan, it had to be for schtick, there's no idiot dumb enough to not understand the difference......right?

I can't keep track of how much I've heard about how America needs to "understand" the culture of dogfighting. You know what? If it means that much to you, then start a grass-roots campaign to increase awareness, make it a political issue, and try to get Congress to pass laws legalizing (but regulating) it.

Until and unless that day arrives, all you have to understand about it is it's a Federal crime. Now look, we can debate whether it should, we can go into a whole federalism discussion, but that's not the point. It's illegal, he did it, he pled to it, he should have been punished. The idiots outisde the courthouse cheering him on are either clueless or a-holes, or some combination of both.

Now I will say this- I do think Bill Bellichick should be sentenced to jail as well, I think the Patriots franchise should be dissolved. But that's got nothing to do with Vick, Vicks, Wickes Furniture, or anything else....

I disagree with both of you, and the reason is, if he's shot, it's going to be hard for him to return to football. And quite honestly, I hope he does return someday. I don't think he will, but I hope he does. And the reason is, no matter who he ends up playing for, that team is going to have to play 8 road games a year. And eventually, they're going to have to play at Cleveland, at Oakland, at New York. You don't think the Browns fans wouldn't shower him with dog biscuits? Or snowballs? And best of all, let's head to Philadelphia. Mike Vick, I'd like you to meet someone, his name is D-cell battery.

The fans would go nuts. The ratings would be through the roof. I love heat. He goes to play at Oakland, Darth Raider is liable to run onto the field and attack him with his sword.

Ah, just a pipe dream. It's not that any team wouldn't take him out of moral scruples, that means nothing in football. But he would be a PR nightmare. Plus, if he's out of football for 3 years, I don't know what kind of shape he'd come back in. Plus, let's not kid ourselves, his statistics so far are lukewarm at best. It's not like it's Peyton Manning going to prison.

Funny you mention that Greg because I tell you what aint a good dessert item, Kentucky Jelly. That is nasty with peanut butter. I have not seen OH jelly or IN jelly but the KY jelly is nasty. So i just give it to the kids and never ate it myself.
