Great News
I have my credit card ready....actually every once in a while it pops out of my purse and BEGS me to order Elizabeth!
Great news! For a minute there I thought Marcia Gay Harden was Bree from Desperate Housewives. (Sadly, I am mistaken. )
Oh no...Shailene Woodley is the girl who plays Kaitlin Cooper on the OC. I love the OC but can't stand Kaitlin, and don't think the OC should be combined with AG. Two totally different interests...lol. (Okay, so maybe NO ONE will seem like a good Felicity...) She could look like a good Felicity, though: http://www.childstarlets.com/lobby/b..._woodley2.html
ETA: Meanwhile, the actor who's playing Ben looks pretty cute! Here's the google images search: http://images.google.com/images?q=Ke...=Search+Images

Why didn't I think of it before? Marcia will make a great Mrs. Merriman! (Think Mona Lisa Smile!)
For you Revue experts, isn't Katie Henney one of the girls who plays Becky's little sister, Michelle? She's the one who does the tour on the Samantha DVD. I swear she's the same one!!
I can't wait until the Felicity movie. Lissie needs more credit nowadays!
Thanks for posting this exciting news!!!!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Wow! You're not kidding...he's gorgeous! Looks like he's done a few risque movies, though... And, oh, he was in one of the Buddy Movies! My dds just love those movies!Quote:

Good searching, AG Dancer!
I hope the girl wears a wig so she has red hair. I kinda imagined Felicity's mom differently. I think she should be much younger. She looked younger in the pictures of her, and women married earlier back then... Felicity was her oldest child and was 9, so she was probably in her early 30s. I wonder if William and the baby are being cut out, or are just not mentioned cause they wouldn't be played by anyone known.
WOOOHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO! I'm so excited! Thanks for the the news!
Laura, I think you're right about Katie Henney being the girl who gives the tour on the DVD. Here's a picture of her: http://www.harvesttalent.com/talent/talent_Henney.html She'll probably make a cute Elizabeth.
Susan...thanks!
Well unless her hair is dyed they are making her blonde. UGH.
OMG the guy who will play Ben is TWENTY ONE!
I dont think even AG has the audacity of making Felicity a blonde. That would be ridiculus, besides, they made the actress in the Samantha movie wear a wig so Im not too worried. LOL Vickey, I remember when 21 seemed old! I dont think its too much of a stretch though, after all the girl playing Felicity is probably older than 9 or 10.
I meant Elizabeth may be blonde. The girl playing Felicity looks more brown haired.
And Ben doesn't seem old to me because I am turning 20 in 9 days.
Edit: But I do think the people playing her parents are too old.

Great news on the movie and actors!! Thanks for posting this.
Actually, Anna Sophia Robb dyed her hair dark brown to play the role of Samantha. In one of the movie books-I think it was the one that came with the mini Nellie doll, it said that they had to dye Anna Sophia's hair from blonde to dark brown and it took many touch-ups to keep it dark.

Well, if Madonna can write a best selling children's book...lol
AWESOME!!!!!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I highly doubt Mrs. Merriman was even thirty yet in Meet Felicity. Average age for a girl to get married in the late 1700's was 15, so if Mrs. Merriman got married at fifteen, had Felicity at say 17, then in Meet Felicity she's only 26. Mr. Merriman would most likely have been in his late 30's. Ms. Harden is a little too "old" looking IMO, but she does have the right face shape.
Good catch, Laura! People on this board never fail to amaze me with their sleuthing skills. Katie Henney looks like she'd make a good Elizabeth...she has a sweet little face. Shailene Woodley looks like she could be a good Felicity too. And I definitely agree about Ben not being too bad-looking.
I just searched out some pictures of this Marcia lady and I think she'll make a perfect Mrs. Merriman. Check out these pictures (especially the ones with her hair up)...doesn't she look "colonial" ?
Marcia (Mrs. Merriman) pictures
I think she'll be perfect. A little old, maybe, but she looks really calm, and peaceful...just like I would picture Mrs. Merriman.
I know I wasn't going to post anymore, but despite the feelings I might be having, there was no way I could keep this from ya'll. As found on yahoo.com
WB dolls up 'Felicity' as 2nd 'American Girl' pic
By Nellie Andreeva 32 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Following the success of its TV movie "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday," the WB Network has reteamed with Julia Roberts for "Felicity: An American Girl Adventure," which will star Oscar winner
Marcia Gay Harden and John Schneider.

"Felicity," derived from the popular American Girl line of dolls and books, follows the adventures of spritely 9-year-old Felicity Merriman (Shailene Woodley), who lives in Williamsburg in the days leading up to the American Revolution.
Felicity's father (Schneider) owns and operates the general store, while her mother (Harden) cares for the family, which includes 6-year-old Nan (Harden's real-life daughter, Eulala Scheel). Living with the family is Felicity's father's apprentice (Kevin Zegers). Also cast in the project is newcomer Katie Henney as a young girl from a loyalist family.
Roberts is serving as an executive producer through her Red Om Films banner. Production is set to begin soon for a fall premiere.
In its premiere Nov. 23, "Samantha," the WB's first original movie, which starred Mia Farrow, drew a hefty 6 million viewers.
"Last year, 'Samantha: An American Girl Holiday' was a huge hit for us with audiences, critics and advertisers," WB entertainment president David Janollari said. "We are hopeful that the loyal following these characters have inspired will continue to make the 'American Girl' films perennial family favorites and a successful franchise for us for many seasons to come."
Harden, who won an Oscar in 2001 for "Pollock" and was nominated in 2004 for "Mystic River," next will be seen in "American Gun" and Richard Linklater's "The Bad News Bears." "Smallville" co-star Schneider recently was seen in NBC's highly rated miniseries "10.5."

Thanks for posting this, it's great to get the info. So is the idea that the Felicity movie will be on around Thanksgiving?
Hooray!! This really makes you wonder why AG's website hasn't posted anything on the Felicity movie yet, its like they just want to keep ignoring her!!
Wow, thanks for posting that! I especially love this line:
"We are hopeful that the loyal following these characters have inspired will continue to make the 'American Girl' films perennial family favorites and a successful franchise for us for many seasons to come."
Now, I'm still a loyal fan of the books, but more movies can only mean good things, right? It's only fair that the other girls get movies and friends, too.

I found some stuff on Google that did suggest women actually married closer to 20 then 15. Whether a man married young depended on whether he came from a rich family. If he came from a rich family, he would marry younger because his wealthy father would give him money to start out with. Men married in the early 20s if this situation. But if you believe Felicity's mother to be 26 then this casting is even worse!!
I had the impression that people married at different ages in the colonial era according to their social class. That is young woman from fairly prosperous, settled families mainly along the East Coast tended to marry later than did girls of farming families moving farther inland along the frontier. Of course, during the Revolution in the areas where there was the most fighting or where there were heavy recruitments, marriages were either postponed or occurred suddenly.
I wish there were books about Felicity's life in Williamsburg during the Revolution. That area was central to so much of what happened. An older Felicity involved with events at Yorktown would make an amazing story.
Don't forget - it's only in recent years that people aged 30 and up started to look younger. Look at old photographs or paintings - they seemed more matured than an equivalently aged person today.
For example Empress Elisabeth of Austria, she didn't allow photographs anymore as of the age of 30 and the very last portrayed painted was at the age of 50 - and the painter had to paint her as if she was much much younger.
Oops, I didnt catch that about 'Elizabeth' being blonde! Either way, I really hope AG wouldnt change such a basic aspect of a character. I know people say they changed Nellie but it wasnt that much. In the earlier books her hair was a very light brown or dirty blonde so they just changed it to strawberry blonde to appear more Irish. Dark brown to blonde is far more drastic. Not only that, but Elizabeth just has more of the personality you stereotype with brunettes; quiet, shy, level headed, etc. Whereas Felicity's red hair suits her spirited personality. And Grapedy I thought the same thing about her mother's age, I always figured Mrs. Merriman to only be in her mid-late twenties, however I didnt know that about the colonial men, thanks for the interesting history bit! I just assumed him to be the same age. Guess that adds even more possibility to Lissie marrying Ben right? Anywho, as much as I like Marcia Gay Harden I do think she's a bit old but oh well, she'll still be good. Its the dad Im concerned about, I dont care for that actor at all and he seems waaay to old (to be her father, not in general) since he's in his fifties. This especially bothers me because out of all the stories, Mr. Merriman is one my favorite dads. (Addy's poppa is my absolute favorite, he's so sweet and proud of his daughter) Anyway, those are just my thougths
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sorry, but this one really makes me laugh! Obviously, you don't know my daughter, or my best friend! The two of them can outtalk anyone on theplanet, and are definitely NOT shy! Quote:

Laurie
The age of women marrying did vary some according to area and social status, but not by more than a couple of years, 4 at the most. Infant mortality rate was incredibly high, and it's very possible that the Merrimans lost a couple of children before having Felicity, and lost more between Lissie and Nan, and then Nan and William. The sooner one married, the better their chances of at least one child outliving them. Average life expectancy was 45-50, and it didn't really improve any until AFTER the Civil War.
That age range for a girl to get married, 14-19, was the social norm for over 200 years. It only really ended when the women's rights movements caught on so well in the 1870's-1880's. 2 of my 4 great-grandmothers were married at the age of 15, and one of my great-aunts got married at 14. This was between WW1 and the Depression too in rural Louisiana and Mississippi, so the practice continued in some areas even up through WW2.
A 12 year old girl of 1800 had the same maturity level of a 25 year old woman today. Ben at 16 in the books would be about as mature as a 30 year old man of today.
