Vera Drake is extremely powerful, with Imelda Staunton giving one of the best performances I can remember. I'll be buying it, and I suggest you do the same. Right now.

I wanna rent Dead Birds
I almost bought Dead Birds yesterday, I am dying to see it, but I went with Tobe Hooper's remake of Toolbox Murders. I am not generally into remakes, but the fact that Tobe Directed it, and it starred the wonderful Angela Bettis, I just had to see it. I dug it, very 70's feel. But yeah, Dead Birds is next on my list.
It's not your usual "scary movie".
It actually lives up to its title, unlike most pieces of shit that claim the same thing these days.
sounds great, I caught a little of Vera Drake once, seemed really "powerful" but, I dunno [img]wink.gif[/img]
what's the plot for Dead Birds?
Short answer:
A group of bank robbers run into evil in an adandoned farmhouse in 1863 Alabama.
...cool?
oh, and on a surprising note, the remake of "House of Wax" despite having Paris Hilton in it, actually doesn't look half bad from the trailer I saw before Sin City, the main antagonist is cool, at least (think Leatherface, but... "waxface")
What's cool about Hooper's remake of Toolbox Murders is (besides the fact that it isn't the same movie at all) is that the orginal Toolbox was made by some guys who were shown TCM & told to "make us this movie, only different"
Dead Birds was very cool.
Monsters & stuff came out of Robert Hall's Almost Human studio-

I'll probably see the House Of Wax remake-
I'm a sucker for Dark Castle flicks.......
A lot of people don't know that House Of Wax was a remake of Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933-w/Lionel Atwill & Fay Wray)
which is a great movie & (along with Doctor X (1932)
one of my favorite non-Universal early horror flicks~

the father's experiments with occult rituals and sacrifices (to save his wife) only succeeded in opening a door into a demon world & turning his wife & kids into demons.
I guess if you spend too much time at the house, you too become a demon (the ending)
