Titfighting and Sexfighting Forum gone

I wrote about this at the Help Desk but since JB’s post was mysteriously removed, I may as well try here too. The forum started by XP, better known as the Titfighting and Sexfighting forum, is completely gone. I don’t know how this happened but I hope it can be undone. It’s over 20 years old and contains many great works by many talented authors. A lot of those works are not available anywhere else either.

All links to it are dead ends and all posts in it cannot be found on search. A lot of us have sunk a great deal of our free time into this passion and to see it all erased would be very disheartening for all of us. Even some of its owners have no idea how this happened. There has to be someway for it to be restored.

I've tried to sign on for a couple of days. No luck. What is going on?

So, owners have to sign into the forums they own? Does a single owner have the power to completely delete a forum? Because AL in the Help Desk suspects that.

I started a forum MANY years ago about music. I got absolutely NO RESPONSE so I haven't signed in on it for years. But what, if anything, would that have to do with this? Curious.

In the Help Desk, AL75 suspects that DHH, the owner of the forum, might have deleted it. He logged in just before it happened and that was the first time he had logged on in years. I’m not sure if a single owner has the power to do that to a forum with multiple owners.

In the meantime, AL75 has started his own backup forum which we can use. Here it is:

Once marked for deletion the system is supposed to mark it is inactive for 30 days prior to removal. I actually am not seeing it on my end. I do have 30 days' worth of backups, however. This is going to be a major PITA and take a bit of time. First is to get copies of the DB off the backup system so they are not over written. Sigh...

My guess is that both DHH (acting as owner) and XP (actual owner) were hacked. DHH hadn't logged in for almost a year and XP hadn't logged in for at least 2-3 years, but suddenly both accounts logged in on March 21 and the board was deleted. It's possible that they both were communicating somewhere else and decided to log in and delete the forum, but that seems highly suspicious.

I hope it has not gone, I meant to save all Guilty Sparks War of Lust tales and now they have vanished! Was some excellent work on that forum, I hope someone has copies at the very least!

What an incredible coincidence, I too have wanted to revisit the War of Lust saga Tales of Guilty Sparks

I hope the forum can be recovered, there are many valuable stories.

AL75 has no clue what's going on the private life of Hostboard.

I have been looking for a developer who would have the technical expertise in being able to revive a single forum within the Hostboard structure. All previous developers either had no interest or were unreachable. I have finally heard from 1 who is willing to look at the issue and see what he can do. Keeping fingers crossed...

I am not a coder and have personally paid out of my pocket for the site's functionality. I have tried reaching out to past developers with were either not interested or MIA. I finally have someone who is willing to take a look at it. At the bare minimum I hope they can resurrect the 1 forum in question. I also have a secondary objective as this issue was a first in all these years and a learning curve thus the way the process flows needs to be changed.

That’s good to hear. I was admittedly starting to get worried myself that all hope was lost. Thank you for all your hard work.

If you still have those backups you mentioned before, then I think it shouldn’t be a problem for them.

I maintain 30 days of backups. The 2 oldest backups when I first learned of this were moved and archived so they would not be over written. As I have had multiple family deaths these last 2 weeks, I just have not had the time or honestly the drive to do much. I did just email the developer before coming here. Hoping that I can at least start this this week.

How terrible to hear about your situation. Thank you so much for your work. Obviously, it's work that doesn't receive any monetary compensation.

That’s horrible. You have my sincerest sympathies. I actually had to take a long break myself recently for similar reasons. Take your time. We’re good on our backup forum for now. And that is good news about those backups.

I'm still interested in this issue being resolved. I would like getting a copy of the old forum, back up and readable. A lot of the old story posts are still lost.

I think it's appropriate to ask if there has been any progress in restoring the previous hostboard threads

My apologies for dropping off the face of the earth the last few months. I lost 3 parents within a weeks' time and have been dealing with personal issues on top of this. Anyways the DB files are still being held, and prior to my reply here I reached out to the last developer that I worked with to see if he is still around and if the restoration is something he can take care of.

My condolences for the situation and my apologies for the inconvenience. I understand that dwelling on the subject is also annoying.

I appreciate your work and will put the matter to rest. I trust that, when the time comes, and if possible, the thread can be revived. In any case, I wish you the best of luck.

The board now shows up but says I'm denied access. XP and DHH haven't logged in since the issue back in March, so if the board is back up then let me be the moderator and we'll get it going again.
