heh, I apologise if this kind of topic seems somewhat superfluous, but I truly must convey the fact that in my opinion, Granaboard is awesome
The reason why I think this, is simply because of all the compelling discussions and interesting opinions which have been expressed by everyone over the duration of the existance of this message board (or at least, the period with which I am familiar).
Personally, I believe that it has had a substantial influence on the way in which I percieve a vast majority of different issues (i.e. Religion, science, the universe, psychological perceptions of people, sexism, politics, etc....). Not too long ago, I tried to speculate on how I would mentally percieve certain issues had I not ever been introduced to this message board, and I seriously reckon that I would have been a lot less content with my knowledge of the world, would be less capable of conveying my opinion in debates, and would generally be less intelligent.
I must express my deepest thanks to Cat and OCB who first introduced my into this message board, to Wiseman for being a fantastic moderator (and a fascinating person with which to speak about various things), and of course to all the other members of the board who have been here for so long, and who have also participated in all the other interesting topics, and who have also really motivated me to learn more about everything.
In conclusion, I think Granaboard is awesome ^_^
What are you opinions on this?

^___^ I'm glad the Granaboard was that useful, I'm glad you're enjoying it, and I'm honored you think that of me. You've been part of the threads I found most interesting since you joined, too.
I think three of the best things of the board are that we talk (and are able to talk) about virtually anything, which makes the board a general discussion, information, and fun hub; that we have the appropiate frame to make friends, being able to talk about anything, including personal and/or mature topics, using the language we would actually use if we talked to each other in real life; and that the majority of our members find the board valuable and unique.
-
I must agree, I have learned things that I would not have otherwise, and it's a good thing. I thank all the members of the Granaboard for this. May it continue.

I totally agree with this, I have been learning SO mayn things about life, and I never even thoguht I could express my opinion about the topics we had this clearly. And practising the english language, also helps a lot, and I have real great fun during.
I will never leave the Granaboard, until I have net connection, I can promise that for myself, and for everyone. My life wouldn1t be full without it really.
-
Thx for Grana guys. ^_^ That's what I can say I think you are great ppl and I really like being here(that's why it's my homepage hehe). Let's keep this up

Let me give my 2 cents to this. Is true, this board, unlike anothers, is the most mature, serius, interesting and funny i've ever met, and i have met some!
i'm administrator in a spanish board, and to say the truth, IT SUCKS, there are other 2 admins there, the board is full of people, but they're not the half as interesting as the people here.
There is no way we have a discussion like here. all of them are very.. how to say... uninteresting for me.
There are tons of random threads, but none is interesting at all. The only way to get a discussion is when there is a trouble between users, and nobody respects the rules, say a thing, and they'll call you dictator or worse because of that. I think they don't know what is a board at all
this is different, the people here is interesting, respectful, The administrator is nice, yet, fair, and makes the rules have a meaning, they're there and he remembers them to you when you fail, not like a monkey, but like someone you can speak with.
Very nice is the Granaboard i have returned to.

IRT Mel: I can agree from this perspective as well. I'm a member of a couple of other forums, but a few days of posting in them, trying to instigate interesting discussions, everyone kinda...ignores me. And talk about stupid, unintersting things.
-
Same here, perhaps, the thread about "Ask Wiseman a question" would fail miserably out there, but here is really fun ^^
-
I rarely visit other forums, they're only talking about 1 thing usually. Not like them we don't talk about Grandia only. We have lotsa cool topics ^^
-
IRT Melfice: I'm glad you like it ^_^
i'm administrator in a spanish board
If it's not a private board, can you post a link? It's been a while since I've been in Spanish boards. I was the most popular poster in a couple Dreamcast boards back in 2000, which were fairly good, but they were all about Dreamcast stuff, not general boards like this.
nobody respects the rules, say a thing, and they'll call you dictator
Lol Spanish youth. No wonder the country's getting fucked up. IMHO the best way to face that is to do your job and reply "Yes, this is a fucking dictatorship, like any private board. You cannot flame others [or anything that applies]. Zoomj I'm so 3vil. Got any problems with it?".
this is different, the people here is interesting, respectful, The administrator is nice, yet, fair, and makes the rules have a meaning, they're there and he remembers them to you when you fail, not like a monkey, but like someone you can speak with.
Well thank you! I'm honored ^_^. I always tried to keep an enjoyable atmosphere sustained on basic rules so the board would be nice for everyone on every day, while making sure they don't get in the way of our normal activity. And most importantly, I like to think of it as a job: I'm not having fun deleting messages; I'm offering a service to all members by having our rules applied. I try my best to keep this service independent of my own posting (and I'm happiest when I don't have to be more than a normal user). It's been a pleasure to maintain the board, but it's been even better to post at it.

Sorry, if i'm being too personal (then ignore me here) but I can1t help my curiousity; I must ask what the hell that means? XD

Sure, excuse me for using some Spanish. I did because there was a perfect idiomatic expression for the situation I wanted to use. The closest translation would be:
"I'm going to say this in Spanish because of the idiom: What happened then is that sega betrayed me in the middle of it, so I had the decency of fucking off after having recommended the Dreamcast until the day before the SAGE motherfuckers saged it."
-
You know this is the only board I post at. I browse the HBO boards, but that is just looking for stuff to do when I am bored.
-
Yeah... I've learned alot here, and changed alot thanks to here.
Originally with my silly lives are useless stuff, and Christianity, then to my big ego and omg religion needs to die kthxbai l337 is teh secks stage, and now I've just mellowed out, and am more pagan, in the sense of nature worship, than anything else.
XD, I also remember being adverse to hentai, thinking it wrong and such, when caijem posted his first pics XD. And then I was a total perv for awhile, and now my teen hormones have died out for the most part, it seems, as I rarely get horny nowadays. Hell, I went nearly 4 months recently (Too much info'd! )
Or my: omg god hates gays, to omg gays are unnatural, to liek, whoa! Bishies are pretty! Oh, and gays are as cool as anyone else!
And I've gone from being christian, to agreeing with pretty much everything Miguel said, to (Finally) having my own strong opinions on most things.
And I've gone from secks is for marriage, to pussies are cock sleaves, to sex is for true love only romantic *Chaste 'til dating someone for two or so years at least*
Oh, and I've gone from being: lolz, i dunno what i wunna do, to omg programming! or how about CPU repairs! or... *Random technology related career*, to mm... lit major. Journalism sounds fun, and a good realistic career for me that I'd enjoy! Yummy.
Yeah... I've just basically overgeneralized myself into three stages for everything, but it is all true. I think my only constants throughout all of my teen years have been my dislike of trends, needless drama, and my only ambition being true love.
I only post here seriously, and occasionally at the board that is most of my real life friend's social board, and I troll on GFAQs alot. I rarely post on any other boards, and that's only when I'm seeking something.
Yep, the GB's been a major part of my life these past... 5 years? All of my frshman year, I'd come home, and whore my F5 key on the main page XD. And of course I've made some really great friendss, some who've beena round nearly the entire run, like N, OCB, Cata, Sizer-chan, or those who I read for months before ever even posting at that GFAQs board, like Miguel, phaq, Bj, elf, and Shini, the energetic new guys, like Dreamer, HK, Raij, Buffalo, CBA, and many others who haven't posted in a while, but come back occasionally, and of course Cav, who was my best friend, even over IRL people, for my first year and a half of high school. Hell, Miguel was my role model for sophomore and most of junior year

It is the Typeteam boards, here: http://foros.typeteam.net/ though right now they're disconnected, because the servers are being moved. And there was a trouble with some users... i don't like it too much right now.

The Granaboard is 4 years old. During these years I changed in some ways too, although not nearly as much as Xellos did (most of my personality was forged before I joined the boards and started the Granaboard).
I'll define two and three stages. When I mention two stages, I mean the pre-Hostboard eras and the rest soon after joining Hostboard (unless stated otherwise). When I mention three stages, I mean the pre-Hostboard eras, more or less the first year in Hostboard, and the rest.
● I wanted a girlfriend badly. Stuff I haven't talked about in the board happened for about a year. Now I don't want a Naru-girl but a serious girlfriend, and I'm not actively looking because most girls my age are Naru-girls.
● I wasn't sure about what would life's ultimate purpose be. I didn't see it clearly. I thought it was too complex; you had many purposes to fulfill; and if anything, it would be doing the most good you can. Now I saw things clearly: the ultimate, true, proper purpose of life is to have fun! It's wonderfully simple. What could be better than that? Fun wouldn't be so fun if it weren't the ultimate purpose of life.
● My principles were based around the objective of being good; I thought that's what I was supposed to be. Now I'm all about being mine - doing what I have to.
● I didn't have a global vision and theory for the Universe. Now I have theories and ideas for most things. I find this very valuable.
● Paradoxically, my old thoughts and schemas were much more complex than my new ones, and I liked complexity. Through complexity, I learnt the incredible value of simplicity and minimalism. Now the KISS principle is one of my bases.
● In the Light vs. Darkness debate (when they don't refer to good and evil, but the ways of light and the ways of darkness), I was strongly on Light's side. Now I'm in both (not neither, but both). Ying-Yang. I do what needs to be done with the appropiate ways. The only Light attribute I keep unconditionally is order.
● I tried to have a real life. I had a real life. I have a real life but I keep it to a minimum; I'm more interested geeky matters.
● I was shy. Then not shy. Then not shy but not social.
● I was on the "care for everything" side. Now I'm mostly don't care.
● I was a completely unspiritual atheist who bashed religion when the subject arose. Now I'm not only that, but I actively hate and bash religion.
● I used to say all religions suck. Since recently, I don't consider some Eastern religions (like Buddhism or Shintoism) "strong religions", but more of a fuzzy and flamboyant philosophical schools, so I don't direct my attacks towards them. It's the monotheist, dogmatic, lamb-oriented, fuck-you-up religions I'm bothered with.
● I used to think the future was not written because it was nicer on first looks. Now I think the universe seems to be deterministic, therefore the future is already determined (but there's no fair fate or any crap).
● I wasn't interested on anime, manga, JPop, CPop, etc. Now I am.
● I had all male avatars (and didn't like to use a female picture for me, even though I liked females and I liked other males' females), until recently. Now I'm all girls in avs.
● I was semi-fanboy for sega. Now I'm platform and company agnostic and a whore.
● I thought sega rocked. Now I think sage sucks.
● I used to have much less fuck up tolerance. Now I browse 4chan /b and like at least half of it.
● I was a fascist, now a right-wing democrat because there's nothing better.
● I was not that interested in politics, now I am.
● I didn't like History, now I do.
However, there are many things that define me that I kept intact or just improved:
■ I like girls and my ultimate goal is true love.
■ But I like sex too, and I openly say so. I'm up for most things that have to do with sex.
■ My geeky interest on anything technology-related and my ability with computers.
■ My strong sense of right, law, and honor.
■ My strong love for animals and nature.
■ Anti-puritanism and anti-religion.
■ Values, i.e. traditional values. Patriotism. Pro-marriage. Anti-sexism. Anti-islamism. Overall conservativism outside puritanism and religion (i.e. true, not religion-oriented conservativism).
■ Maximum sincerity. Maximum seriousness when required.
■ Always being as helpful as I can. And taking my job seriously.
■ Always writing and formatting my posts decently, and not spamming. Loving to discuss on everything. Liking to read and write.
■ My political incorrectness and intolerance for the shitty and the stupid.
■ I'm a little (or a lot? You decide) self-centered. Pride as opposed to modesty. Self-confidence.
■ Economy-aware and capitalism as the perfect system.
■ I hate trends.
■ I love RPGs.
■ I strongly like good music and strongly dislike bad music.
■ I have strong opinions on almost everything. But that doesn't mean I can't change something if I discover or am presented something better.

That gives me the idea to follow suit.
I was a depressed goth kid, now I'm a happy unclassifiable person.
I was an atheist then, still am.
I liked crappy music then, now I prefer better music.
I didn't play games as much.
I didn't read as much.
My views were not as expanded as they are now.
I have a better understanding of the world around me.
I still don't trust most people at my school.
-----
I'm sure there is more, however.
-
I liked hungarian music, now I don't
I didn't like Animes, now I do
I didn't like japanese culture/people/music, now I really do =P
I wanted to post to every post, now I don't
I didn't know lotsa american/sveden,etc cool bands, now I know
Now sometimes I prefer to be alone though I hated to be alone

Overall, the Granaboard has primarily had an influence on my opions and how I express them.
But it has also increased my awareness of a more diverse range of different animes and mangas (I'm currently reading downloadable manags of "Chobits" as recommended by Wise), and also wish to borrow the 3rd volume of Love Hina in response to recommendations from both Wise and Cat...and others..hehe.
Again, read my question in the "Bizarre Questions" thread, but wouldn't it be awesome if Granaboard really did persist for so long that we all got families, jobs and things, and still adhered to posting on Granaboard?
If this did indeed happen, then it can be safely affirmed that Granaboard had been an important aspect of our lives, and that we were all a really close community of friends, considering that we had basically been together discussing various issues for so long.
-
We should meet one day The whole team
-
I agree! Sometime when we're all old enough to travel abroad alone (or with friends or whatever), and when we're all free and can spare a weekend or something. Just all meet around someone's house/at a large venue/anywhere!
-
That'd be so totally awesome! I'm sure I'll be here forever! Well at least till I won't be left alone.
The Granaboard changed me in manymany ways, always in a positive direction. I never could imagine I'll get addicted to this place this much, when I posted my first topic, only asking about Ed (Elyssa).
There's many to list, I try and list some of them:
-Improved my english greatly.
-I got way more social.
-It got me so many wonderful friends, a love, and a lot of fun ~ days I can remember.
-I got to know animes and mangas way more.
-It got me new hobbies, interests.
-It got me to know awesomely amazing Rawk bands, and to those I'm still addicted.
-It taught me many things about life, how to keep myself cheerful all the time, helped me to share my thoughts with people who cares somewhat, be it a bad or good thing. This is the most valuable things, it opened my eyes to many things.
I'm sure there are a lot of other things, which I can't recall right now, but I can feel Granaboard have done many wonderful things to me.
I really can feel, this is the best place in the world for me, and I never will able to leave it behind.
-
The next few years are going to suffer an activity gap, with N, OCB, Cata, Raij, Dreamer, HK, and myself all entering college. Ifw e get past htat, we should be cool, though
-
Haha, yeah, but that's two years ahead for HK and me, but you can still expect me 3-4 times a day.
-
mm. I've recently been somewhat apathetic concerning my studies, but have still found time to post. What I'm more concerned about is when uni comes along.
-
Dont worry, it'll get even easier in Uni.
As for me, im upping my work ethic a notch. I need a bit more focus on sociology and japanese, since both of those exams are the earliest.
-
University hasn't stopped me from posting.
Then again, I had to be the laziest successful uni student ever.
-
mm, tis a behaviour that I myself shall have to adopt. Fortunately my first exam is on the 8th of June, giving me a little less than a month...but I must start revising....NOW!!
