Ah yes, pleasant memories....thought I'd impress my then-fiancee by taking her on an exotic drive through the mountains.

Only catch was....right in the middle of it all, she got car sick.

And let me tell you, that's a good road to be on when you're car sick, because it's mile after mile of hairpin turns either way you go.

We slowly but surely made it out of there, but I vowed to myself "nie immer," which for those of you who don't speak German, "nunca jamas," and for those of you who don't speak Spanish either, that means "never again."

There and back again and I have to say "meh" about the the Tail of the Dragon.

Don't get me wrong; it was cool, but like too many other things, the hype overshadowed the reality. However, we've now been there, done that and have the t-shirts. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Sunday and Monday nights we stayed at an oh-so-posh motorcycle resort in beautiful Tellico Plains, TN, home of a WWII German POW camp. Sunday was a bit of an iron butt day -- more than 500 miles. 497 of them were spent riding in fog and enough mist that we were constantly wet and miserable. (You know you're miserable on a bike when those stupid hot air dryers in restrooms become a godsend.) Mine was not a happy face when we pulled into Tellico Plains, but at least it was warm.

Sunday night we got to talking with a couple from Savannah, GA. They'd done the Dragon that day and Mrs. Steve said she'd NEVER do it again.

So, with great trepidation we ran the Cherohala Skyway Monday morning. I'd really appreciate it if someone could remind me next August to always take leathers. Them mountains be COLD!!!

I think everyone would like to know if you saw any bears.
