Well i haven't been here for a while so I thought I better make an appearance and tell people what I've been up to.
Well it started about April. Usually the big Armageddon con. is on my birthday but this year its in October in Auckland and it was in Wellington during April.
I had some airpoints to use up and free accomodation so i flew down to Wellington for the weekend and added a couple of days.
The organisers were rather unfortunate, with a speight of illness causing Walter Koenig and Michael Turner to cancel.
I still enjoyed it tho'. Scott Lobdell signed my Darkness comics and during his Q&A session on stage got the entire theatre full of people to sing Happy Birthday to me. he also drew me a Darkling but man he sucks at drawing worse than I.
The other Q & A's I went to see were Connor Trineer from Enterprise (he was a bit boring)and the guy that played Darth Maul in Episode 1. He was a neat guy.
The Wellington con' is much smaller than Auckland.
I spent time in the anime screening room and was especially impressed by the anime music video competition.
I bought heaps of anime which I'm chewing thru slowly at the moment. Just watched R.O.D. TV vol. 1 this weekend. Man! Paper Powers would be so cool to have.
I also had gotten in touch with a few people from the MadmanNZ manga message board so on the saturday night a few of us met for the first time and I had my birthday dinner with a bunch of strangers. Weird yet cool! Haha one of them even works for what is essentially the same company as me only down in Wellington. We went to Mongolian BBQ.
I spent an extra day and a half discovering Wellington, its pretty cool a bit different from Auckland. I went to Te Papa the National Museum which actually stacked up pretty good against other museums I've been to around the world. I even ran into a kiwi girl who was on my Contiki of the Western part of the USA. Crazy!
NOTE: All of my adventures are interspersed with virtually living at work so that I can pay for all my stuff and pay off my loan from my oversaes trip. Damn this new addiction to anime! [img]wink.gif[/img]
Of course he next weekend I had to have my official birthday dinner with all my friends. We went to Soprano's a rather flash Italian restaurant. I had even asked if the entertainer who usually played on thursday nights would swap his shift to saturday for me and he did. Yay! He was great his name's Silvio and he's about 80 probably and came to New Zealand from Italy after the war. he plays the piano accordian and sings in multiple languages. He was fantastic.
Which leads to the next weekend, when me and one of the guys from the manga forum are trying to organise a huge dinner for forum members from all over NZ for when Armageddon hits Auckland. he lives in Rotorua but was coming up for the weekend so me, him, the product manager for Madman NZ and a few of my friends went to try out a possible locale for the big dinner, a great teppanyaki dinner. Andy paid for my sake as a birthday drink shout and the me, Kat, and Andy went to The apartment of Dan the manager and his GF's. And basically we drank more sake 'til about 1 am. Dan has a massive anime collection, of course he probably gets it really cheap being the product manager.
Hmmm then there was a brief period of working really hard before i went to Sydney at the end of May to visit my sister, who now lives over there. She had paid for my ticket to the Kylie Minogue concert which unfortunately got cancelled due to the diagnosis of her breast cancer just the day before the concert. I still had a nice time over there tho'. I went on a great wine tour of the Hunter Valley tasting about 2 dozen wines. Saw StarWars 3. and shopped alot. mainly because I discovered the best bookshop in the universe Kinokuniya. (I know they are in the States but I never saw one.) it took up the whole floor of a mall and had a huge manga section and a huge Japanese section. I managed to get a few rare manga that have so far been realeased in Japanese only and of course had to purchase the glorius unedited japanese version of Tenjho Tenge. (Join the boycott of CMX's crapola editing everyone, there is no way this manga would ever be R13, editing or not and it should've been left alone)
Ummm so I ended up spending alot more than planned and came home with a suitcase full of manga + SIP Treasury edition and Liberty Meadows book 2.
But the good news was i discovered Chobits. And I have lots of wine.
And now I'm back to working my butt off again. Film Festival is next month and then I have to save for Armageddon Auckland in October.

hehe now i just have to hurry up and watch Evangelion before she gets here so i don't look stupid.
