If any movie about anyone is worthy of having Social D contribute, than it is "The Z Boys"...they did for skate boarding (and an entire generation) what Social D did for music (and and entire generation)...it's not a sell out at all...a tune in a Burger King commercial is a sell out...my two cents.
I think it's cool that they are on a movie soundtrack, it gets the music out to a larger audience and they probably got a boat load of money as well. Story of My Life was featured in the movie Orange County and on the movie soundtrack. As for the censorship, I'm stumped, I bought the Lords Of Dogtown soundtrack at a local indie record store and it is edited, I was hoping it wouldn't be. just my 2 cents.

Since this board has the biggest SD fans, I thought I'd ask. How does everybody feel about SD being on a movie soundtrack? I saw the movie last night and it was a great flick. I'm glad they were chosen for a movie like this and not some TRL MTV produced bullshit, etc...
I just found it strange that they choose to be on a soundtrack, and not to mention, have their music censored.
Overall, I'm sure it's not the first time they were offered a movie spot and I'm glad they waited for the right movie to lay down their music to.
What's worse than that is that one of Social D's tunes (I believe it was Cold Feelings) was on a compilation here in Germany called "Lars Ricken's Hot Shots".
Now this Lars Ricken guy is some preppy soccer player who probably has no clue about music whatsoever, but since that was back in Social D's Sony days I reckon that the record label put it on and Mike and the guys didn't have much to say about it...
if memory serves Story Of My Life was also on the soundtrack to Reality Bites....and i fully intend to use Social D in my first feature film that i write! Of course i will be asking nicely first! [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Reach for the Sky lyrics appeared in a Jessica Mars episdoe on tv. Someone read them as a pome they had written and someone else in class called them on it as lyrics to a song.
I have also heard "Story of my life" on some MTV Real World episode.

And while we're talking Social D in the movies...I remember that in the X-Files one of Fox Mulder's "Lone Gunmen" buddies (the long-haired blond nerdy looking guy) wore a Social D T-Shirt sometimes...
I can recall I heard 'Reach for the Sky' play on Monday Night Football before they went to commercials. No vocals, just the background music.
I'm cool with the music getting out there. I would never say 'sellout' with S.D. in the same sentence. They deserve all the recognition they have received and it seems they are finally getting more play. They have families to feed too...

Getting back to the original movie, I just saw "Lords of Dogtown" last night and highly recommend it ...the only thing that bugged me was the Social D. cover of "Death or Glory" appeared near the end of the closing credits. Only those who know about the song and waited to hear it, or losers like myself who always sit through all the credits would get to hear it.
"Winners and Losers" was played in its entirety during the opening of some show called Everwood or Foreverwood. I think its on CBS. I was kind of disappointed Social D was featured in that Angelina Jolie movie, (1) because it sucked so bad, and (2) because everything she says or does is such a gimmick for attention, I didn't want people watching the movie to group Social D with all her bullshit.
I know I'll probably have my cool card revoked for knowing this, but "reach for the sky" was featured on Smallville on the WB in the episode were Clark Kent leads his football team to the championships ( it was Musical interlude/Football montage).

This doesn't really count, but when I saw Velvet Revolver ( Slash and Scott Weiland's band) in January in the music played over the PA before the support band came on they played 'Story of my life' that was very cool [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
i was watching a show on tlc called overhaul or something like that where they fix up peoples cars and the kids dad was wearing a social d shirt at the begining and towards the end his sister was wearing another SD shirt i thought it was pretty cool
