One of my fav. Vinnie DVD's are the Faith Hill one. He just kills this style! love his attitude in her band.

There are some great country acts...willie nelson, dwight yoakim, Shania Twain, Johhny Cash, Merle Haggard...and so on. There are also some duds(**cough-Toby Keith-cough** [img]eek.gif[/img] )

And thus.... the reason I watch Hispanic TV. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Country [AND western] [img]wink.gif[/img] is loaded w some great players behind the scenes...NTM some of the sturdiest pocket you'll ever hear...[even tho occasionally protools may sometimes assist ;-)]

If you ever get the chance to see Charlie Daniels live, his band is great. His drummer Pat is pretty scary when he wants to be, & Charlie lets him stretch a bit usually. This gig is moreso the jammer than many CnW bands [not that other's can't, it's just that the music sometimes doesn't allow]. His former drumr Jack Gavin wasn't too bad either, IMHO [I'm not a stickler for DM-precision MM or DW timing on every little thing, just good overall timing & feel]...

I'm not a Yoakim fan by any stretch, but i was able to meet, hang out, & see a show by his great backup/touring band, Pete Anderson & Gun Dog, w Jim Christie on drums [I call them "Zappa-esque of swampy-blues-rock"], & they really stretched out live, even w some improv spots, & lots of killer "segued-medley" motifs & arrangements...

I also was able to share the stage w Poco, who had a fine drumr named Tim Smith ATT [altho not nec pure country, but a mix of C&W, pop, folk, etc]...& also Ricky Scaggs [burning bluegrass], Dara Norwood & Colin Raye [killer fusion & Zep at the soundcheck], Kenny Chesney, Kevin Sharpe, & Rhett Akin[sp?], who had great touring drumrs. Also Travis Tritt's band [they put a total groovier fuso-spanking on Barchetta at a soundcheck]...Vince Gill, Brad Paisley [not a bad fusoid-country-bluegrass-rock gtrst], & many of these bands are very good rockin' bands. I would never have known [in my "little" rock, prog, fusion, jazz, RnB, funk, & pop world] had i not the opp to share the stage or event w many of them.

Most of the tourg C bands have really good drumrs.

Altho Paul Leim may be no soloist, he has a deep pocket & is a very good stylistic studio drumr. There are guys like Greg Morrow, Lonnie Wilson, Eddie Bayers, Steve Turner, Rick Brothers, & Milton Sledge who have phat pocket & "are the JP's of CnW." Charlie D's drumr has a phat groove too [AWA loads of chops & musical phrasing; a la Chaffee, etc].

CnW is not my main bag, but it has good players behind the scenes...AND, one can "work!" A lot of the guys playing it have all the fusion of influences growing up as we in here had/have [mostly rock, blues, prog, fusion, pop, jazz, bluegrass, & classical, w some funk & RnB thrown in for good measure]...

Yeah, VC w FH is not gonna be "Karizma, Chick, Fab/Dyno-4, Tooch, or Zappa rockin;" of course he's not gonna be bustin' yer tail in two w a vamp-solo in 11/13/17/21/27; but rather, another of VC's "chameleon-istic" sides [img]wink.gif[/img] ...It's still interesting to see one of our heroes "put on a hat" & interpret an act like this...

Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Keb Mo etc.

Man they're some serious music happening with these cats live!

I dare to say that Little Feat is one of the greatest "live bands" Since The Band.

The swamp-fonk, bluesy, groovy RnB side of things!

I 4got 2 mention...CnW, like most if not all other styles, has lotsa bad, but there's good BTS's AW.

Personally, I don't like the dumbed down, cutesy-pie-cornball, contrived pretensiousness of the excesive & constant "wink at ourselves & the silly stereotypes of the lifestyle" subject matter part of it...that ol' Hee Haw TV show was funny; too much/overdoing this horse-sh** ain't...well-done, crispy-fried, burnt...but i guess a formula's a formula ["Midas Touch"] - evun fer the countray folk! /;-/
