I feel totally gutted seeing the devastation along the Gulf coast on the news this morning. I know there's one or two people on here still residing in the New Orleans area. Hope everyone's ok down there.
I loved my time down in Biloxi, and made a few friends in the area. Seeing the place now, looking like a big muddy puddle, leaves me feeling a bit empty.

Although they have been saying for roughly 7 years now "we are due for a big one" I never thought that big one would be quite as big. Thankfully me and my kids were not there....I wish I could say the same for the rest of our family and close friends....and everyone else that was hit.
My phone started ringing on Thursday when a few called to let us know they are ok. To hear voices that I thought I may never hear again was wonderful...
Sorry to get all sappy. Its been a rough week watching and waiting------
-
Glad to hear everyone's been reporting in. I was heartbroken when they said the town had been all but wiped out. The tears were flowing.
I won't forget the good times I had there.
-
Duplicate Thread Alert!!!!
Seriously, it's good to hear about each person that is still alive.
I'm waiting to hear how the rebuilding is going to be handled, and what necessary changes are going to be made.
-
Yeah Jay, I wondered why you started another one, hehe.
I wonder if the casino chains will risk rebuilding there, or if anyone will risk building there at all.
-
Tears were flowing here and still are. The birth of two of my children were there..13 years..great times, great friends. I have pictures and memories but when I go back nothing will be the same.
From the things i've heard -
Yes the casinos will be back but thinking about putting them on land- Then heard no they won't be back and the MS people are greatly concerned. That is the majority of the peoples income in that area.
-
Yup, seen similar reports here. The BBC News coverage has been quite thorough. They had news teams on the ground in Biloxi and Gulfport, not just New Orleans.
The SunHerald is doing a good job keeping people informed too;

Vamp - I'm glad you guys were out of there.
I'm sure everything will be rebuilt. It's just gonna take awhile. It's just human nature when we lose something we work hard to get it back if not the same then better than before.
-
Long time, no see, Sinn.
Hope you and the family are all doing good.
-
I'm usually around. Just quiet. We're doing great. I've got 44 more days to go... if I make it that long. lol!
Hope all's well with you.
-
Bloody hell, that's gone quick!
Yeah, everything's cool here.
-
It has gone fast but it hasn't. Depends on if you're me or not. We'll be in Cbus on the 18th if you guys are around.
I told Bill that if you still lived there you'd be dead b/c you would have been sitting on the beach watching the hurricane.
-
I dont think Ill be up that way then but I never know anymore.
I prolly would have stayed until the very last moment- and yes I would have been on the beach until I got scared shitless. I am "one of those" that sits on the beach (or close enough to the beach) while storms roll in. I think I learned my lesson with Georges though. Once I saw a roof fly by and a propane tank-----I shit myself. That is some wizard of oz shit. I couldn't imagine how bad they had it.
-
Hey Sin, it's your birthday sometime soon isn't it? Or did I already miss it? Hope you have/had a good one.
-
Hey Vamp, I looked at those other pics and worked out where my last hotel, the Ocean Manor Inn, was. Like you said, its gone. If I'm not mistaken, all thats left is the pool.
-
Yeah from the looks of it both Hotels you stayed at are flattened.
Did you see Treasure Bay- It is now back on the water I do believe but it was almost to the highway and the bottom is out.
Biloxi Grand was in two pieces one in the water and one across highway 90. The President was in the Coliseum parking lot. The copa was across highway 90 as well. The biloxi/Ocean springs bridge crumbled as did the Bay St Louis bridge.
Alicia did get out however the rest of her family did not...they weathered it. They are now living in GA because conditions there are unlivable (no food, no water (still), no electriciy, no sewer system, no grocery stores and from what i've heard no gas. They sustained damage to their houses and were told to get out for at least a month. No jobs no money- they just sit and wait.
There were a few thousand lbs of Chicken on the dock ready to be shipped out taht never made it, feces, urine, and dead bodies- the smell alone is making people ill.
In one shelter all but a few contracted dysintary and had to be sent off to hospitals that are already over crowded.
Tomorrow on Oprah they will be on the MS Coast. Iknow they are focusing more on New Orleans because it was much worse but Waveland, Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Ocean Springs were on the east side of the wall. (East side of Hurricane always has the strongest force winds) There is mass destruction there as well.
I really can't talk about this anymore. It is really taking a toll on me.
I am sorry if I have made people mad. I am just in another state of mind as I wait to hear from the rest of my friends/family.
Please donate as much as you can...even a dollar can go a long way. And if you have the means...take a family in. I am taking a family in next week and I believe my mother is also taking a family in very soon.
Stace- I will be going back soon to help somehow- someway. I feel I have to.

There is a picture for all those interested of where I lived. Its pretty much sand and debris now.
-
Hey Sin haven't heard from you in ages. Hope all is well. That did go quick!!! JESUS! Just got back from up that way- Should be back after the lil one arrives...We will try and make a trip up to visit!
HUGS
-
Stace- goto www.wlox.com they have more images. You can see the hotels you stayed...or the place where they once stood. You will not recognize a thing. Quite sad really.
-
I looked at that big pic and was trying to work it out.
Looks like your apartments over the railroad tracks are still there. I guess the big circular patch is where the Coliseum was. I bet the pub up on Pass Road is gone.
-
No the coliseum is still there. My apartments look pretty damaged. If you look it is on the very border of the pic- across from the ball field. The roofs look pretty tore up (guess they could be worse but i've been told they are completely unlivable and that the water level was 6 feet inside) Chris saw the library behind my place and it was 3 feet under and most books are damaged- no windows etc. It is a mess.
Yeah I am sure the pub is gone.
-
I saw your buildings by the ballpark were still standing, but yeah, I'm sure they're wrecked inside. Good job you moved. And to think you was considering moving back there. Close call.
-
I found Veterans Ave, and where La Linda used to be. I'll have to look at the others tonight. I gotta go now as its almost 6pm here.
Alicia moved away, didn't she?
-
Why would you know when my birthday is? I barely remember when it is. Thanks tho.
-
Because I remember getting it confused with your D Day, a couple of years back.
-
HOLY HELL I should know this!
It is right around my sons...
HAPPY 50th SIN!!! (HAHA thats what I got this year that and Johnny Depp)
-
Not that anyone cares but I am not 50 years old not anywhere near 50 years old. And what the hell does Johnny Depp have to do with anything?
My D day... that was forever ago. lol!
-
Yeah, around March I recall, but I thought that's when your birthday was. Think I sent an e-card cos I was confused, lol. D-days, B-days, all the same to me!
-
Anyway Sin, what's the latest? How ya doing?
-
According to the doctor I have 2 more weeks. According to me I'm done today. But I really have no say in the matter.
How have you been?
-
I'm ok thanks. Not much to report.
Hope you don't suffer too much, hehe.
-
You still workin?
I am suffering now. Especially at work.
-
Work-what's that? I'm dossing in London for a few days
-
I just can't get over that. How can you not work? I wish I could figure out how to not work and still live.
-
Oh yeah Sin, Phil Lewis says Ello.
