Regrets on Replacements?

Just wanting to know if anyone else has ever had to return a doll for a defect, only to regret it?

I recently have had some family situations that even though an adult have gotten me back into AG as a means of comfort and relaxing.

I noticed recently that my Marisol, my first doll and the only one I've really "played with" has wig problems. I'm very gentle, but still parts of her wig stick out through her hair when pulled back in a single pony tail or bun, plus she seemed to be shedding.

AG has sent me a replacement, but it just doesn't seem the same. And now I'm wondering if I want to keep the new one, who is still sitting in her box, or keep the old one who I'm delayed shipping off for two days now.

Is this me just being weird? I mean, they are the same doll, right? Just the new one's hair will hopefully not drop out when you barely touch it.

Any advice or word of experience would be appreciated.

I totally understand. And It's not just the same doll...your first Marisol is special to you because of all the time's and memories you have together.

My first doll, Reita is kinda getting worn, but i dont think that if i got her a new head...if she would be Reita anmore

If the wig is really bothering you, i'd say stick with the new one...but if it isent, maybe your first Marisol should be your Marisol.

(Did that make ANY sense at all? )

Hope this helps....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I am exactly the same way!!! I have thought about getting a PM Felicity someday off of Ebay (when I'm no longer a poor college student) but I feel by doing that I'd be betraying the Lissie doll I have now that I was so finally happy to get. I feel this is the Lissie I was meant to have.

As for Marisol, I'd say keep the old one because if you're this iffy right now you might feel worse if you send the old one back.

I also do that! When I got my Kaya in the store, I was so distressed because she was the 4th or 5th one I picked up. I wanted one with a straight part w/ no glue residue... but it was SO hard "abandoning" the dolls I had already looked over.

Keep the first one. My Mari has a loose part and sheds a little bit too. How do you know the new one won't too?

Your pics make her look much prettier than the new one in the face too!

I'm keeping her. About to send the new one back before I stress out and change my mind again, only to send off the old one and then regret it forever.

I've also decided to just order a second Marisol for collecting purposes, that way if some day I have to re-wig my first one because she's going balled, I'll have a "Marisol" in my budding collection. If nothing else, I can sell the extra in a couple of years.

Thank you everyone. I was really feeling weird, because my family was like: "Mail the doll in already"

BTW, GreyMyst, I love your avies. Amazing work! May I use one from the set posted elsewhere later on?

So glad you decided to keep her.
Tracy

I know that my daughter would never part with her dolls, no matter what the problem. She gets very attached and finds it cruel when people get rid of a doll!

That said, the new Marisol seems to have the chubbier face that several people have associated with the earlier Marisol.

So glad you are going to keep her!! My Mari has something "up" with her wig, she got a small bald spot, I cover it up for her, but still I will keep her as she is so different than the other Marisols I have seen.

Also, do not forget I have changed 4 Kits! and still regret sending out the 1st one cause of her orange legs....

Sorry if I'm in the minority here, but I would have kept the new one--if the problem was bad enough to call CS, it's still going to be there down the road. (AND I like the chubbier face just on general principals.) However, if you change your mind later on, you can always have a replacement doll sent out then.
And don't feel bad about AG sending you out the newer doll--as long as they get a doll back in the mail, they won't care. The important thing is that you are happy with the doll you decide to keep, no matter what anyone else says. Good luck with her!

P.S. If you don't care for her name, you can always change it to one you like--this board will be full of suggestions!

I think the idea of getting another marisol is an excellent idea. If you can afford it do it!

How about keeping the new one as you collector's Marisol?
She is already in oyur house! You could call AG and ask them to just send you the bill. This way you don't have to ship her back.

Also, even if your first Mari looses her hair, you can get her a new wig and a new do, but she will still have all the "vibes" you sent into her and will be your very special girl even if she has a new do (or even more just for that reason!)

Good luck on your decision!

I would keep the first Mari! You are going to miss her!

Well if you look at my pictures.. yeah they are technically the "same" doll but they can in fact be very different! I personally like my "bigger" marisol.... but she was also the first one I received when she was first released... her face to me has more character to it and her wig consists of more hair! Its a lot thicker!

I see what you all mean. It's just so hard to decide. I love playing with her and she's really gotten me through some tough times the last couple of months. Though I never liked the name Marisol.

But the new "Marisol" seems even less like a Marisol to me. I guess I'll have to sleep on it one more night.

The other odd thing about the new one is that her box doesn't ahve the window, or the big Marisol Sun symbol sticker on it, just a regular and solid front AGT box lid.

Thank you for the advice.

Both of mine came in the regular dotted today box, but one has the sticker on it and the other one doesn't.... yeah I know EXACTLY what you mean though about one being so different from the other... sleep on it and look at them again in the morning! Got any pictures of them?

This might sound silly but ever since I was a small child, the first stuffed animal or doll I picked up I would have to buy, even if there was a "better" one on the shelf. I felt like if I put them back they would be sad and feel rejected, so the first one I get is the one I keep... to this day.

Can try to make some pictures with my phone and load them up.

Nellie! That's exactly it! Ever since I called the CS guy, I've felt like I've betrayed her some how. Especially as I picked her out at the store.

Yep, I understand 100%... if you feel that way DO NOT get rid of her, you will find yourself lying awake at night thinking about it.

Pictures of the two: http://www.ionuin.org/ag/

Most likely I won't though I'll feel really bad, because I had them send a new one.

Sorry the pictures aren't better, never can hold a camera steady.

I would keep the first one. You have bonded with her. I received a greenish AG15 last fall. I can't bring myself to swap her, as another doll to replace her just wouldn't be her. Once a doll enters this house they are here to stay, unless one of my Granddaughters "needs the doll". Out of the 5 GD's that have the dolls, 2 of them are AG fanatics.

Well, I guess that explains that HUGE and beautiful collection in your Sig!

And thanks for the advice... I hadn't thought about just keeping the new one I have rather than ordering another one. It's a great idea. Plus, it would insure that I get a second one. I wish they took paypal. Maybe they will let me wait until next Friday's paycheck to send the payment.

And I still don't like her name... but she's being very secretive about what her real name is.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">May be if you take her to bed with you she will share her name with you in your dreams!
Or you may want to pick up a name book and use her hand to open to a page and signal a name to you!

Good luck and enjoy your "vinyl and stuffing and cloth and love and memories" friend!

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking! Keep the replacement you already have -- since it's clear you're really getting kind of fond of her, too! And have AG bill you for her.

But definitely, I would keep the first doll and rename her. I would also rewig her, if the hair bothered me. Hallie got rewigged within half an hour of her arrival because the original AGT21 reminded me of someone I didn't care for at work. So ZIP! She turned brunette. (She's the one playing the keyboard in my avatar.) Sabrina's bad hair and name lasted about 24 hours. If you decide to change your first Marisol's hair slightly, she may tell you that her name is really something else. And if you are keeping the replacement one either as a mint collectible or to sell later, there's no reason why you can't customize the doll who has supported you and befriended you when you needed it. You can probably find a similar wig to Marisol's hair by now.

I am chuckling fondly at all the other people who feel guilty for putting back the first doll they picked up. I have that same problem. You pick up a weird little stuffie with a crooked nose and next thing you know, he's going home with you! Because no one else would ever love such a strange looking little whatever so he'll never have a good home, but you think he'll be perfectly happy with you -- etc., etc. When AGs first started being sold on ebay (and yes, I was alive back then and there was a time when you could type in American Girl doll and get only two pages of matches back, with maybe half a dozen dolls included!), I used to adopt them just because they were orphans and had been rejected by their original person! If I'd kept to that line of thinking, I'd be bankrupt by now.

Hello! "Marisol" here. My mom's in the other room, so I have to be very fast, but I wanted to hug all of you that convinced her to keep me.

Enjoy your hug, but Shhhhh! I'm keeping my name as a surprise for her next week.
