Hey everyone.
I know most of you frequently check drummerworld.com, but here's a great new clip I found that might interest some of you that don't make use of that site all too often. As the title said its John Blackwell. He's playing with a band on this one and lays it down like only he can. Very solid performance by him. This clip got me inspired to go shed for a while, so I hope it has the same effect on you. Enjoy

Hey Suspiria,
Are you back in Montreal ?
Did you know that John Blackwell will be playing at the Montreal Drum Fest on Nov. 12 and will give a Master Class on Friday Nov. 11 ?
Take a look at:

Wicked!
Sus, better yet, John Scofield is coming to Montreal with Hass.
Let us know if you catch it!
Hey guys. Glad you enjoy the video.
Groovissimo: Yeah, I am back in Montreal for my university semester. I have already checked out the drum fest program and will be getting a weekend pass for that. Are you planning on showing up too?
Flarob: Thanks for pointing that out. Lately I've been so disconnected from the boards that I was completely unaware of that. I just ordered myself a ticket to that gig and will be going for sure!
Man, that is SMOKIN' - what a player!
Mr. A.
That's restored my faith in Mr Blackwell... woo!
Suspiria,
I suggest that you e-mail

for the best available tickets for Drum Fest.
They have the four first rows available.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks man. I will certainly do that. Is this the same contact that provided me with the catalog of canadian recording studios/music shops? Unless you let him know I might contact him, I don't want to be impolite and ask this favor of him. Did you not get your tickets at the venue itself?Quote:

Suspiria,
The e-mail I just gave you is the festival production office.
They sell directly from their office until the end of September.
The festival has an ad in the new Nov. issue of Modern Drummer. And in this ad, it's the same e-mail as I gave you above.
They sell the Master Classes as well.
Ahh, that clears things up. I will certainly contact them. Have you signed up for any master classes?
Yeah, that's the Blackwell I know!
Everlasting Now, Great Track.
That Disco/funk'ish thing he's playing... so tasty. i've tried through the years to emulate that groove, and it's just so hard to make Comfortable, it's really His own unique groove!
Am I the only one who noticed that right after his flashy cross over cymbal thing, the time got completely lost?
He has a nice groove, but I've seen JB turn the beat around, and get lost too many times to consider him a top notch pro. He sure does look fancy though!
I'm sure he doesn't pull anything fancy with Prince. Whenever he does though, it seems more often than not, the downbeat is wherever he feels like putting it.
That's true Flarob. There's 1-2 parts where the time suffers as a result of John trying to be flashy. It's only a minor change, but noticeable to the trained ear I guess. Other than that, he really has his stick twirling down and his performance is certainly very pleasing visually. That counts too, especially when he's playing big arenas with Prince.
