So Instead I had 3 wideouts.

I will be the first to admit that my knowledge of the Black Diamond District is very limited. Therefore I can not and will not comment on any player that did or did not make your list.
I would however like to point out one thing that I did notice and I can respect.
If you break down the BDD into three time frames (78-89, 90-99, 00-present)then all three are represented well. You seem to have a broad range of schools represented as well.
Whereas alot of people tend to be bias towards former teammates or even players that they competed against. Your list appears to be untainted from these tendancies.

I think Blaine Hackney should go at return man and Phil Robbins seconds that. I also think Tyler Patrick was a better DE than Sperrow. I alos believe there are better running backs out there than Tyler Patrick. He was a heck of a running back but I think in BDD history there have been better ones. Not trying to down your list cause I definitely don't have the BDD knowledge to make a solid case just pointing out a few things.

Could Add Teddy Lane maybe in there at RB somewhere, and Bubba Edwards too but heck i cant argue with that list man that is truely incredible. One more may have been Brian Davis Hurley O and D line, and Jared Deskins at WR.

Also i think Brit Coleman was a better back than Patrick, i mean 1700 yards on a TV squad that was decent that year probably their best team with JC Clifton, but still 1700 yards at TV man that is unreal.

I have to say I thought Patrick was pretty tough at RB but I was not overly impressed with him as a DE. Sperow was superior over him in my mind without a doubt with all the sacks he had. I agree Bubba Edwards probably should be in there somewhere either on OL or DL...I'm not sure who Brian Davis is but I know Hurley has had some good lineman in the past.

Davis was and All-American at Concord i think and played around the same time of Mark Cooper. I think Patrick was a good RB but i just do not feel he was the RB that Coleman was given the circumstances and place that he played. Tyler could have been an all world reciever though.

I think Gobigred has some issues with Sperrow or something, he sure likes to knock the kid and any list that he is put on. Oh well great list and that is 2 in a row for ole DH.

I think wade is one of the last people gobigred has a problem with. And I think that's a better list than I could ever come up with but I would put bubba on a first team line. I'm far too biased when it comes to people I played with so I couldn't make a truly good list

i have no probelms with sparrow...i am just saying there a lot better people to put there and just b.c biggamesjames is related to him and air ran is kind of related by marriage and because of that you just dont have to say he was such an awesome football player...he was good...but he was not all time bdd at TE or DE...he was just a good high school football player not a great one

if you think tyler patrick was not good at DE you are crazy...he was lazy on some plays...but unless you had an awesome lineman or FB you could not block the kid and even at that you were not going to block him consistently...he was too strong and used his hands too well...he would win the battle against anyone 70% of the time...IMO he is def. one of the top BDD DE of all time

I didnt say that Patrick was not a good DE he was very good and i think he was better at that position than at RB. I think Sperrow was a very good DE too, i am kinda like Dundin on the fact of making a list i am a little biased to people i know and have seen play more so than the guys who put up the numbers in the past. That and the fact that DH has smoe vast knowledge of the BDD.

But i do think he is better than just good, he was very good, in relation to Sperrow. Could he have been better? probably, should he be on the all-time list who is to say DH made that of his opinion, heck Whitewood had a kid named Ben Cantrell and if he played on a talented team we could have been talking about him on here, he had like 24 tackles against Garden one year, but you do not get reconized if your team does not win. Council had Zack Barton at rb the kid almost ran for 1000 yards and may have i am not sure do you see his name mentioned no, but that is a huge feat to run for a 1000 to 900 yards on a depleated Council team. So whatever, and yeah i am who you say i am, but i am not biased to Wade because i know him well if he sucked i would say so. I am realated to a lot of peolpe in the area and i am not put them on every list on here, so that has nothing to do with the whole thing.

wade sperow over TP i dont think so...could not think of anyone else to put at DE??

Yeah Larry Barton, there was a Zack too but i think he played Basketball or something. I have never seen the other first team RB play but he would have to have been a heck of a one to keep Blaine Hackney out of the that spot. Like i said 82 is way before my time.

Yeah probably so. I didn't want to include anyone who was still playing though. I think Honaker has a couple of pretty dominant lineman this year as well.

Man I can't believe I forgot Jason "Bubba" Edwards, my fault. I also agree that Phil Robbins would definitely have Blaine Hackney as his return man but he was already on my 1st team defense and 2nd team offense so I didn't want to wear him out [img]smile.gif[/img] I actually think his brother Tim was a more dangerous returner but he ran a few back and teams just stopped kicking it to him, ask biggamesjames I'm sure he remembers.

I thought Britt Coleman was a good back too but not as good as Patrick. Patrick was tall and lanky but ran with suprising power and had an extra gear in the open field...any back that could have the kind of game he did against a very good Haysi defense last year deserves to be on the list IMHO. I remember him just running away from the Haysi secondary (including Colley) a couple of times last year.

Someone mentioned couldn't I think of a better DE than Sperow? Well, nope I couldn't thats why I said feel free to post your own list. Please spare me the chuckle of putting Patrick on your list at DE though. He was a phenomenal offensive talent however he was just a "good" high school DE, not great. I saw him play in 3 games last year and the Haysi game was the only game I even noticed that he played defense.

Thanks OLine, that Baker kid was a tough FB. I would post a list but according to gobigred I am biased toward those related to me so that would prevent me from using about 5 different guys that are on DH's list and also 1 or 2 that are not(Jay Hackney, Tony Thomas) so I will refrain. I believe that Jason Edwards went to play at a D-1 AA school for a year, but then left and went to UVA-Wise.

You are right OTF he went to Liberty and then to UVA-Wise

good list james even though you had to omit some pretty good players off of your list.

I have not seen Troy Wills name on any list but what i seen of him he was a freaking beast for Pocy.......93-94 around there.

Troy was a very good football player but he never did anything against us when I played at Haysi (92-95)I know that doesn't mean he shouldn't be on a list just telling what I saw when I played but you could make a list AR and put him on it now B.J. Baker from Pocy on the other hand was very good and tough to handle he gave us fits all game long.

All I said was that he was a better DE than Patrick and I say that without any doubt in my mind. I think DH's list is debatable but not bad at all and probably better than you or I could do. Should Bubba Edwards be on there? Yeah probably but is it certain that he is better than anyone DH put on his list? No I don't think so. Yeah you can say I'm biased but I was just disagreeing with you saying Tyler Patrick was a better DE than Wade and I'm sure most people with a decent amount of football knowledge would back me up on that. But like I said before you can disagree with whatever I say or anyone else says it doesn't really matter to me because until you say who you are or explain why your opinion should hold more water than others then you have no more football credential than anyone else is my mind.

By the way Air-Ran I think the kid from council's name was Larry Barton. I was wondering if anyone remembers what the big fullback's name from Hurley who played the same time as Tester?

I agree with gobigred that Josh Yates will be a future addition to any such list.

I am assuming that biggamesjames was leaving off the people related to him but Blaine Hackney definitely needs to be on the list. I doubt anyone on here would argue with that.

Yeah yoiu are right 77, Baker was tough and i had forgot about him, i just seen Wills a couple of times but he was pretty dominant but then agian not many weren't against our team, and not many where against yours. That O-Line at Haysi might have been the best ever in BDD history.

The Haysi OL from 93-95 was not only the best in BDD history(hands down), but would rank with some of the best in Southwest Va history.

You will never hear a arguement from me on that one.

I wish everyone would leave Wade alone the kid was a beast of a d-end, I read in an earlier thread where people were callin him lazy yeah he was in practice ONLY. As far as the biased twards family thing goes James and Air-ran could make a dang list with all their family I can count 12 right off the top of my head and all of them were decent players in their own time.

I was def proud to play on that oline. I think what was best about us is we were good friends on and off the field and we were always talking on the line about who we had and we had some very good coaches. I learned almost everything I know from Ben Sutherland one of the greatest Oline coaches ever.

Amen B.E.D, James could go way back and most of them where better than decent, but all were very solid.

I have been reading the forum and I did not interpret what was said about Sperrow as dissing more being realistic. I have seen him play several times and while he was very good at his position(s). He never showcased any skills that warrant being considered one of the best of all-time. However, I have seen Tyler Patrick play an equal number of times and he did do things to impress me. How many times have the Haysi fans seen him play besides when they played Haysi?

I dont know which Sperow youve been watchin and i suppose you might be right but the fact of the matter is Patrick had an explosive game or two and one great season and stack him against Sperow has three solid seasons with countless explosive games is something thats a complete joke. I think putin Jake colley as all time BDD D back Is a joke Im so disapointed in you James i could never see you buyin in to the Colley craze. Im sure im pissin everbody off but i dont care stats dont lie i know of three tuchdowns the kids gave up and countless receptions hes gave up im not slamin jake i think the world of him but i think theres more deserving people out there.

BED I don't know whay you have been smokin', but it is obviously some good stuff. Wade was good, but he was in know way a Tyler Patrick. I may be bias since I'm saw Patrick more than sperrow, but sperrow was played out of position and did seem lazy. From reading other posts as well all you want to talk about was #31 should have done this and #31 should have done that. He did nothing one or two good runs along with a couple of fumbles. As far as bgj goes though, he does have a number of ppl in his family that could be on the all time bdd list, but I don't know about 12. Haysi has had some great athletes, but other schools have had just as good athletes. I will have to agree with bbj in this matter, becuase even though he is from council he does seem to know more than you.

Oh and three TD's and countless receptions? Wonder how many TD's and Receptions, Rodney Harrison has given up? What about Deltha O'neal? Champ Bailey? Fred Smoot? and countless others. 3 TD's. If we think less of someone for only allowing 3 Td's then everyone on the list should be playing in the NFL.

OTF it is Highschool where in fact when you give up a ton of receptions and more than 3 td's as i have saw it, it does make one wonder why he was on the list but hey it is not my list and i do not have one but it is ones right to disagree with another on here i guess. As for patrick and Sperrow debate i seen Patrick play a lot and while one hell of a athlete i think he is not worthy either of the all time bdd list, sperrow was dominant and lots of teams never even ran to his side where as i seen Patrick have one or three good games but lots of times he was not noticed, like you said you could be biased and i could be too. The Colley thing is that i dont feel he was a great anything at football, he was a very solid football player and a great overall athlete, and one of the better basketball players i have seen in the last 15 years, but to rank him at all on the all time BDD list is kinda strange and patrick did have one good season and does that really make you worthy of the list? Hey Trent Dilfer won a super bowl but should that put him in the HOF? Nah.

Oh yeah OTF there is about 12, thought some are if and, ands but they do have some legit ones to put on there if you go way back. But a list is someones opinion like most everything is on here so who is to say one is right and one is wrong i guess but makes for a good debate as long as it does not get out of hand. Sperrow was a really good DL and a decent DE. That's all I gotta say. I think he should have stayed at DL. I also think it's a mistake to put Josh Yates at DE instead of DL. The same thing goes with Brandon Lester a few years ago he was a better DL than a DE even though he was a good DE.
