I GUESS IM CONFUSED PLEASE HELP

Well i kno this is a del sol message board, but ive got a question, no dissin on del sols, i luv em, but im not sure of what car i should get. Im on the market for bout 12 grand and below and am not sure what car to get, i want somethin fast stock, or that i can buy cheap and put stuff into it to make it fast. Im not yur normal civic or integra or eclipse guy, i like to be different, persionally i was kinda leaning to a like 89 or 90 240sx or a 3000 gt, but another thing to look at is insurance cause im 17. And information would be greatly appreciated, and i am kinda tall im 6ft2 so i would need leg room. Thanks alot!

Luckily i was bored at work and took your requirements and looked on seattle craigslist for a car to match your criteria. The first car seems to be the fastest but even though you said no eclipse, this one is already modded for you. Couple of Z3s, a nissan 300, and surprisingly i didnt find an impreza RS, which is also a quick little car. But take your pick and let us know what you get.

Oh yeah driving a MOdel T would definitely be unique...

Forget the Eclipse, no leg room even with the seat against the rear seat. I checked one of those out too when I was looking.
I was amazed how many cars I looked at that I couldn't fit into. One I did fit was the 300ZX, but they wanted to much for them, also there a very heavy car, but do have a t-top/targa which is nice. I do love those Fair Lady Z's.
Don't know about the fit on the rest except the "T", you'll fit.

The 3000GT is huge inside (for me at least) but I wouldn't call it 'sporty'. It might look sporty but the thing is a pig that needs the twin turbo boost to go straight...and that's about what it does best, go straight.

I vote for the Nissan 240 with rear wheel drive. The longitudinal layout should afford you more leg room and there are plenty of hop ups for the thing. Don't ask about insurance on it though as I've never actually owned one, just knew a few people who did.

Hey. Get a Sol...thats what its all about. They're small fast and have very good leg room motox4ever. I mean..you've rode in mine and like mine. Why not get one and quit bugging the very nice people who own Del Sols. I mean...Wonderful!!

well, what exactly do you want to be fast in? 1/4mile, track, auto X, freeway, etc...I wouldn't suggest getting ANYTHING thats a mitsubishi. Eclipse's are nice cars and do have a lot of potential but damn do they have that scary "crank walk" to always worry about. 3000gt's i dont even know where to begin as far as how badly they SUCK in reliability. Lets just say that my friend has one and his abs went out on him. He went to 2 shops to get price quites as to how much it'll cost to repair. One quoted him $5k, and the other $3.5k. But every single month there is something new that goes wrong with the vehicle LITERALLY. I can go on forever about how much those cars SUCK but i'd have to make a whole new thread about them. A 240sx would be pretty nice with the rear wheel drive. That generation listed usually go for somewhere in the $2k margine as far as price goes. 300zx's are indeed fast bone stock and the turbo ones could damn near smoke anything that roll arounf the streets in stock form. but i'm no fan of anything that cant handle its own power so that was always not on my fav list. just put it like this though, you being 17, if you want ANYTHING thats fast STOCK, you're ganna be paying out your butt for insurance. So you're better of building something into something fast.

I would suggest getting a VTEC delsol. suprisingly the delsol has a lot of leg room for me im 6'2". plus you get to hang out with us and get tip and tricks. what more could you ask for.

If I was going to spend 12k on a Bimmer.. I would stay away from the Z3... and find a 328i or a 328is.... they can be had for 12k, and are great cars.

If you don't mind a bit older.. you can find '95 and'96 M3's for in the 12k range.. if you look hard enough. Nothing (from a compareable year) beats an E36 M3 for handling...

Whats wrong with the Z3? and i thought the eclipse was a tuner worthy car? i guess thats why they blew it up in FF.

The Z3(in the above form) is a DOG! It has a 1.9l 4Cyl... it produces 138hp and 133 ft lbs of tq. And weights 2700lbs!!! Sooo thats 22less hp, and 300 more lbs than a Vtec del Sol, for twice (or three times the price???)

If you're talking about getting a 2.8l, its quite a bit better... and has the same engine as the 328i. The 2.8l is a pretty good engine, that puts down 193hp, and 206lbs of tq. These cars are great, if you can find a 328is with the sport suspension they are awesome!

In the later 90s they also made the M-roadster which was the M version of the Z3... but with a mild wide body kit on the rear fenders. This also had the 3.2l with 240hp, but expect to pay in up to the high teens, and 20k mark.

Really.. a GREAT bang for your buck car is the '95 M3.... ODBI so modding it has high gains. Usually can be found hovering around the 10k mark at around 150k miles.

Thomas, I'm picking up my '98 M3 tomorrow in Denver... when I get it home I'll give you a call, and we'll take it for a drive. Then we'll go test drive a 1.9l Z3, and you made the decision on what would be a better spend 10~12k!!

Here are a couple more cars...M3 and FF Civic, the seats on the M3 are a little worn and the price is above what you are looking to spend but i guess thats what aftermarket seats are for. As for the civic, it has a nice kit and paint job but you gotta wonder about people who use Fast and Furious as a sales pitch.
