They are Triple A and play in a very tough conference in KY which includes Bell County who have won the Triple A state championship in KY numerous times...their enrollment is close to 1100 so needless to say they are the largest school Haysi has ever faced in football. Their record is 4-5 so thats pretty good for them as a first year program and considering the conference they play in. They play on artificial turf so that will be an adjustment for Haysi footing wise but I think if Haysi plays their game they should be fine. I'm calling for a 21-14 victory for the Tigers in this one and another good boost in the VHSL Ratings. Smart move by Colley picking this Div. 4 team up on the schedule...should not have picked up Betsy Layne though!
According to the KHSSA website they have a 3-5 record, but I don't anything about who they have played. They may be a "so so" team thats played a hard schedule or they may not be any good at all.
All I know is they have a jumbotron and instant replay. MMMM. I'm def. going
They're 4-5 now and have been outscored 245-256 (not bad, considering).
Here's a quick comparison.
Both LCC and Grundy played at Shelby Valley this year.
Grundy normally handles SV easily, and won 35-7 (a bit closer than we expected). Things then started back downhill for us.
LCC won a closer contest, 28-20.
Their school came from 3 merged schools - 1 AA which went 2-8, an 'A' that went 0-10, and another 0-10 'A' that fielded their first team last year.
Their coach averaged 11 wins per year during 19 years at Pikeville in the 70's & 80's,
and led the Panthers to 3 straight state titles (87-89).

great info seems like they could be a solid team (not one to overlook) but not good enough to beat us. Does anyone know exactly where the school is? I was told that you go to pound get on the 4 lane go it to KY take the whitesburg exit and that you will run into it. Yeah their coach is something of a legend in Eastern Ky and I'm sure he will build a powerhouse over there at LC...Their schedule has been very tough with 2 of the teams they have played having been ranked in the top 100 nationally(even though they got blew out)...they are definitely not to be taken lightly at all.
It also is something of note that they are the closest thing to a Division 5 school that most any team in Southwest Va will ever see unless alot of counties start consolidating.

that size worrys me but size does not equal talent but good coaching goes a long way

their wins have come against teams that are a combined 8-28, loses are against teams that are 30-14 so looking at that they beat the weak teams and lose to the good ones the best team they beat was shelbey valley 28-20 and judging by the grundy game not a powerful team
I don't have much respect for KY football so i'm def. feeling confident going into this one

hey when u say in the nation,i seen where richlands is ranked #278 in the nation so im not sure this team is ranked anywhere near richlands as far as nation .if they are then its goin to be along night for the red .imagine 278 out of 10000 schools and thats from 6A schools down.

You know I wonder wear Haysi will be in a few years when Dickenson County consolidates. I just feel that Haysi has carved a name out for itself in football and other sports. It'll be a sad day when we wind up being the LC's of SWVA (Minus the glitzy field).
They are the Cougars and their color is blue I do believe. I didn't say that they were ranked in the top 100 nationally...I said two of the teams that beat them were. They play a few powerhouses over there in KY and they got drilled a couple of times.
when DC consolidates and it will the sports programs will be excellent espicially football look at the tradition at haysi and clintwood and ervinton always has a few good players not to mention that the school will be div 3 for a few yearsthen drop back down to div 2

Letcher County Central (currently 4-5), enrollment of 1,010 in grades 9-12 (considered a class AAA school by KHSAA), is more or less the same size as Abingdon High School (enrollment 1,001 grades 9-12). Here's their results so far this season with final scores and their opponents and their records as well:

7-68 L Bell County (AAA) 7-2

Haysi won't have any problem with LCC. Shelby Valley is the best team LCC has defeated & Grundy beat SV 35-7 earlier this season. Not sure how a 7-2 team can be considered in the top 100 h.s. teams in the nation, though. They've played some good competition but not that damn good lol.
Bell County and Rockcastle along with 2 more teams from KY...I think Virginia had 6 teams on the list. Both were listed in Preps Magazine top 100 national ranking...they may not have ended up being that good or maybe the 2 teams both of them lost to were also very good teams...just a ranking but from all indications atleast 3 of the teams they played could be considered very tough football teams.
