Hey everyone!
Does anyone own a set of these? I'm very keen on buying them but wondered how they perform in a gig situation? And are Yamaha heads OK? If not, I'll be going for Remo for reliability.
I play in a rock covers band, heavy on the blues, play in clubs, bars etc.
Also, I need cymbals - I'm seriously looking at the Paiste Signature range, even though they are very $$$$.

They are good drums for the money. I used a Cranberry kit live for a few gigs, they looked and sounded good. I'd pick up a spare plastic lug or two, just in case you strip one. I didn't when I used the kit, but if I owned them, I'd want a spare.

I have last year's model Stage Custom standards. Love 'em without apology. Head them and tune them well, and they sound great.

Yep, in NZ Aquarian are dear also.
But I've always been a Remo junkie but I'll grab some Evans heads and do some trials....thanks!
Oh - any thoughts on the metal vs wooden snare with the Stage Customs?
The steel one that came with my model Stage Customs was a total shocker. Just horrible. A shrieking overtone that just ripped your fillings out. Nothing helped, not even painting the inside of the shell with roofing mastic. It now sits in the garage with two mesh heads on as a practice drum.
Yamaha makes some nice steel shell snares, but that one ain't one of them. As you can see, I bought the Cannon maple to replace it pretty damn quick.
Back in 2004, the Stage Custom line still had a split personality, with two models - the standard, with matt finishes and the steel shell snare, and the Advantage with laquered finish and a wood snare. There's only one model now - the Nouveau, with the new lugs and I think just the wooden snare (also with the new lugs).
Wow, cheers for the note Stew, I just might avoid the metal then - I actually prefer the wood snares lately. Nice and 'warm' and, of course, I like to crank the lugs tight for a nice crisp sound. (Yeh I'm a Copeland fan....)
That lacquer finish looks superb, just quietly.
The local store has them going for NZD$2295, around 900.00 pounds I guess.

I noticed these are mahogany with an outer Birch ply. Are these drums similar to Yamaha's Tour series from the 80's/90's? Thanks.
The one I used had a wooden snare and it was fine. I don't think they offer the steel snare anymore for that line, so you won't have to worry about it. The finishes that I've seen have all been nice.
I have a set of the Stage Customs in black laquer, with the steel snare. Whenever I do a session I always get compliments on how good the drums look and more importantly, how good they sound!
the 12,13,16,18 toms sound awesome and I don't use any muffling on them (except a bit on the 18). I have pinstripes on the top and the stock heads on the bottom. The snare & bass always sound good - in as much as I haven't had to spend any more time than normal getting it to sound right. I use a coated Emperor head on the snare and a powerstroke 3 on the bass with an Evans double kick patch.
It's definately the best sounding kit I've ever owned. There's some pictures on my website. (jeez, I sound like a proud parent..)!
