Be Honest...!!! (Demo)

Hi I know if do this before but heres a demo that I record a couple of days ago, the drumset that I used was a:

Yamaha Maple Custom Vintage 22x16,10x71/2,12x8,14x12,16x14 with a Noble & Cooley Alloy Classic 5 x14 snare drum with Zildjian cymbals 2 crash K Custom 17" & 18" hi hat K Custom 14" ride K Custom Special Dry Ride 21".

So please be honest in every way of the demo, it is worth it?

No, the sound is good! Perhaps it's the precision playing that made it sound like it might be from digital samples.

(In my punk days, the bass player from the Pistols heard my playing and thought it was a drum machine.)

Very Nice playing. Very solid playing and you have a nice and relaxed groove. But ! ! ! ! In the Outro, I would really like you to go on the Ride! You keep a very steady rythm pattern, but the rest of the Music doesn't. I'm not telling you to chance pattern every time you go into a new Letter, but again, it's very important to listen to every aspect of Melody phrasing to comp them and make every phrase they're meant to play (Especially the horns) Sense. As a Erskine says, Serve it on a silver-plate.

I would like more Dynamics actually, You're playing great but it's rather monotomous when you go into the Chorus, you just keep on going in the same groove and state of mind. I would like a more organic progression in the tune. But that's a personal oppinion and i'm just a silly Dane! Sounds good. Here are some VERY picky comments:

The fill at 2:12 feels kind of weird to me. Not sure if it's the mix between the snare and tom or the actual timing.

Some of the double cymbal/kick crashes feel a bit off with the other instruments, like at 2:19

The double crash at 2:40 is cool, but would have felt better to me if the 1st crash was softer.

In the outro, the accent on the and of 1 is cool, but I would have liked to hear you set it up more. And it would have been nice to hear some fills play off the horn parts

Again, these are REALLY picky things that I'm sure non-musicians would even notice or care about.

Will agree with Klemme on the outro though - just some last 8 bars on the ride bell [img]wink.gif[/img]

I'll echo everyone's comments: Very nice....tight playing, ride/bell of cymbal towards the end...all the other stuff is artistic interpretation: fills, etc. Yeah, that double-crash thing on beat 1 is a litle odd at 2:19...

I think the most important fact to consider is that you don't start playing until 1:21 into the tune...you may want to just fade in right there to avoid wasting people's time.

Anyone has else something to say?

I think you sound really great. The drums are recorded really well, and you have a real nice comfortable groove going. I really liked the fill at 2:19. I also agree it would be really nice to move to the ride at the end. It's just begging for it! Sounds great.
