It's hard to say what we can do against giles since I haven't seen them play. All I know is they have a run game and run the single wing. No one this season has rushed on us and our coaching staff is smart enough to prepare the boys to play against a single wing. The real question for me is how good is the giles D.
I'm not saying a word about this game except it's gonna be close.
HAYSI/giles
I have not seen Giles play either but I think we can get penetration with our D-line and that will slow them down combine their style of offence with ours and expect a low scoring game I dont know about their D but I hear they are good all I can say is they better bring some bigger boys than PV or jones will wear'em out
I am looking forward to seeing the single wing but I dont want to see much of it I think our game plan will be the same as last week run the ball and keep it away from them

again I am at a disadvantage having not seen either team play but I know lorenzo miles was hurt last year and he is healthy this year he is burtons best player I think burton takes the win in a high scoring game

richlands is the best team on this side of the state good passing game and I cant begin to think about how to tackle him combine that with a very solid defence and you have one great team

That single wing is tough. But I'm going with Haysi 28 to 21 in OT.
Penetration isn't the key versus the single wing, that is what so many people think and they end up on the losing end. Don't get me wrong, penetration isn't bad against the single wing it's just that so many teams get occupied with too much penetration and they end up biting the dust and getting trapped to death. Assignments and sticking with your reads is all that Haysi needs to do, they have got the coaches and players to get the job done. Every time that I have coached against the single wing, we always made a habit of practicing the scout team offense without using a football, that way the defense can key their reads and not get lost in the backfield exchange. The upback next to the guard and tackle is also a big read for the linebackers. If he is still facing the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped somebody needs to take him out and attack him, if he turns his back to the defense the sweep is coming and the backer can play sweep.
Enough of me rambling on this subject, I really believe that Haysi can get it done, my question is also the same as the above post "how good is Giles defense?"
Coach Colley and the gang will be prepared and I really hope that this is the one time that he gets to the BIG DANCE.

I think that this is Giles' offensive formation. Or at least similar to it. One of the wierdest Ive ever seen I will probably be a little of a shock to the defensse of Haysi but I am confident in them. I know they like to rush all backs to either one or the other side a lot. It will be tougher to defend four guys than one. I also expect to see Giles' O line to try to push our D line back letting the back just follw his blockers a lot. I aologise for the periods its the only way it would keep the letters in formation.

Good post N8ure boy and your philosophy on stopping the single wing is correct I do believe. Haysi has had some more talented and dominant teams in the past(not taking anything away from this team) but for whatever reason things didn't work out to win a state championship...the stars seem to have aligned this year and everything is working out in Haysi's favor and I do feel they have an excellent shot to get it done this week against Giles. I feel it will be a fairly low scoring game and it could come down to a field goal once again.

the single wing is a good offense if you know how to run it and these kids do they have ran this since little leage. A key to running this offense is size on the line yeah sure it is good to have some slightly undersized linemen that are quick so they can trap, but when they do trap you'll need a husky down lineman to cover that open gap. Haysi has a big strong and fast d-line and faster linebackers. There is going to be a lot of tackles down on the line of scrimmage.
The trick is to sit back and read and then tackle whoever is near you. A good d lineman will keep his eye on the ball at all times instead of on his blocker.
I think penetration will stop it control the blocking back and you stop them from turning the edge on sweeps and penetration stops the wing back reverse as far as the traps it will be hard to trap josh yates
