I've been remiss not telling this story sooner, but you all know how it is once that new stove comes into the house ! It was a dark, cold, windy, rainy, slushy snowy night when the red pickup with our Model 61C pulled in front of the house. We had four guys to bring the stove into the house...removed doors from their hinges and the stove sailed right in. Filthy, filthy, FITHY !!! Immediately got the amonia, hot water and scrubby things out and began washing. Quickly, it began to look like the stove I had been hoping for. Three hours later, she was beautiful, a tiny flea bite of a chip below the service door and that was it. The next morning our serviceman was back to hook her up and calibrate the burners. All were fine except the oven...had to send the thermostat to Texas for repair, should be back tomorrow or the next day. I'm in love with the stove. Every burner has been used, the Thermowell, broiler and griddle...almost daily ! I've made soups, rice, popcorn and puddings in the Thermowell and until the oven is working, it is just stove top cooking. The best feature aside from the incredible LONG ringing timer is the time the stove gives me to chill and relax. I love waiting for the broiler and griddle to heat up...gives me time to do other kitchen chores...kitchen has become a new "den" for me. Everything about the stove exceeds my dreams and expectations. Neighbors, friends and family are envious and are now looking for their own Chambers Range. Amazingly, I cook better with this stove than the old one ! Don't know why, just do. Now, to the name, still don't have one. Each time we comeup with a good new name, it falls short...need a name that conveys sentiment, function, design and overall appeal. Overall, our blind Ebay purchase is a winner and other than the thermostat, all is good ! I look forward to more recipes postings and will share some of my own. Thanks to all for all those great tips...will be stopping in at Gigis next week, I am anxious to see her operation fo enamelling. I'd like the burners and grates to be re-newed and will have the kitchen sink re-enamalled in sky blue. I may be going over board, a bit, but hey, it's all in the name of Chambers ! Great writeup! Let's see some pictures of that un-named beauty! Also get some photos at Gigi's if you can, It would be great to get a virtual tour or something. My burners and other 'black' porcelain items are in there getting a facelift.
P.S. I wanted to name mine "Almost Like Being in Love," after the great Jazz standard from the 1947 musical "Brigadoon," but my wife vetoed it as being too long. You're welcome to that name if you like!

This is all together too bizarre...Brigadoon is one of my all time favortie movies and naming the stove "Cyd" for Cyd Charisse was in the running for two days. Also in the running have been "Roger" for Roger Thornhill [Cary Grant in North by Northwest] as was "Eve" for Eve Kendall [Eva Marie Saint] in the same movie. Staying with Hitchcock, "Kim" for the dual role Kim Novak played in Vertigo. Off the silver screen and back into the kitchen, the choices have ranged from "grandma" to "safta" [Hebrew for grandmother] to"cooky" and "Broiler Bob". A friend's comment actually summed it all up when he said "that's a real mutha-f--ka !" That name lasted a day. Today the top choice is "Pudding" but I don't think it will last the night. How do you attach photos here ???

That's too funny about the coincidence. I'm not a Brigadoon fan but I love Jazz so I've got almost every recording of "Almost Like Being in Love" ever recorded, starting with Lester Young...

How about Big Red or Ms. Scarlett (like Gone with the Wind)??? Or on the point of the name that lasted a day--BMF, you could name it Big George. Wasn't that the big black guys name in the movie?? Or Mr. Louie after Louie Armstrong and his big 'ol cheeks, since you like jazz!!
Big Bertha is how Big Bertha's name came too be. She's a big as your friend discribed, the person who gave it to me graduated from there, so to "honor" him and his Mom, who's stove it was. The name came naturally as my Dad was a big Longhorn fan and dragged us kids to every home game while growing up. And Big Bertha is the worlds largest bass drum and so is a Chambers stove!!!

All great thoughts from you guys ! Princess Grace was a good name but too delicate. Now, I think the 61C is more of an Issac Hayes than a Princess Grace...Aunt Bee may be the perfect compromise, hmmmm...maybe we'll call it "Francis" for Francis Bavier.

Great names mentioned by all. I still haven't named my chambers yet amd feel a little guilty. Just haven't had one that really grabbed me. I had thought about Mrs. Bee awhile ago but didn't think a lot of people would get it.

I haven't named my Chambers yet either. Every once in a while it crosses my mind that I've got to do it, but then a good name for a cat pops into my head. We've got a plethora of stray toms around here and I don't know why - we're sort of in the middle of nowhere with loads of predators. I think it may just be me and my destiny to become a crazy old cat lady (I fixed nearly 3 dozen stray cats at my old place). And I don't know why I bother naming the cats anyway because they just end up with some other nickname. Got a really friendly orange tabby just back from a tuetering at the vet - anyone need a pal? I'll meet you half way and throw in some cat food and cat litter! (He was christened Chester, but we call him The Molester.)

Aunt Bee may be Francis, not sure yet but, the monicor has lasted over night, so far, so good. I'm unable to upload images to this forum...I've followed the instructions but once I've clicked on the link button, nothing happens....I'll keep working on it.

I do like Aunt Bee from Andy Griffith show. Aunt Bee was a well built sturdy lady, much like a Chambers.

I'm surprised you didn't name your Chambers. Mrs. Kyle or Reveille. Also, most of my cousins are grads from Aggieland, but we don't hold it against them!!

I also have a lot of felines running around. My latest aquisition is ebony a tiny little black angora mix that I rescued from an abandoned house. Picking names for the kitties has been a lot easier. I have three house cats (use to have 8) and take care of the strays too. So glad to know a fellow animal lover.

I managed to name my stove with no difficulty, but still haven't named the "kitten" that followed me home over the summer. All I manage is to keep calling him "Wee Thing," but I have to say, five months later he's no longer "wee". I can't keep him, so maybe that's why I avoid naming him, but he's still here...
It's a sad thing that there seems to be an unending supply of stray cats & kittens. I've adopted out so many, but more always show up. It was so much easier to place them when I had my own practice.
Anyway, congratulations on your stove Ha-asfan. I was doing a whole bunch more canning last night, and I was wishing desperately for a working Chambers with hotter burners.

OK Treatmaker...seems like Francis Bavier will be the name, so please, feel right at home using Aunt Bee or Mrs. Bee... our stoves can be cousins. Lowracer, I've no clue as to what Aunt Bee's character name in full is...hints ?

Aunt Bee is a great name, but you gotta pronounce it like Andy Griffith did on Mayberry RFD, "Aint Bee." [img]smile.gif[/img]

Thanks Robert, I think I'll use Mrs. Bee. I too don't have a clue to Aunt Bee's full name. Lowracer do you know or are you trying to make us go crazy? If you do you can lead us down a slow path to finding out by giving clues or you can just come out and tell us all!

Chipper are you a Vet? Kinda came up with that conclusion about your post on the kitties. In aswer to your question about the asbestos in Chambers - don't think there is any .... I know the question has come up in the past on the Old Appliance site and I believe it said no asbestos. Todd and Sam will know for sure.
