My father refuses to hook "that old thing" up for me. I was soooo looking forward to cooking on it. But he doesn't like it because it's so old and he's scared that if my kids try to cook on it they might get hurt. He's afraid for the grandkids, I understand that but I can't argue with him right now, I bought a 95 year old house and he's saving me a fortune right now in not having to hire contractors and doing the work himself. So much for my free stove.
Anyway, if someone's interested in it, I'm in the KC Missouri area. Not sure what price I'm gonna put on it. It's missing the pots and has 3 chipped areas. I'll get model numbers and such here shortly. I believe it's the White Model 90C deluxe splashback.
I was even thinking of names over the weekend!!!

A friend told me he'd hook it up for me too. I really do want to cook on it.

Yes, you can get a safety system for your stove as mentioned.
Also, mention to your Dad that the metal levors above the stove handles are a safety feature. You can pull them out and not worry about a child coming behind you and turning the gas on.
What modern stoves have this feature??
Also, I've noticed when my grandson is over and the oven is on @ 500' the door is warm but not hot enough to burn small hands. I feel much safer with my 1939 14-B Chambers than I did with my modern thinly insulated stove. Especially when the grandson is over!!

WEll my kids are 16 & 13, so not much problem with them "playing" with it anyway. I did notice the safety handles though.
I think he's just worried cause it is soooo old and my kids cook for themselves sometimes.
Does it have to be lit manually each time?

Oh yes it's much better to keep the old range than sell it. Get the service manual and idle hour cookbook from Todd, you won't regret it. You can have a custom built safety built by the guys at the old appliance club (google for the link, it's slipped my mind) for around $400 if you don't want to 'roll your own.' This will put your dad's mind at ease.

Your dad needs to understand that there is NOTHING on the market today that is as well built, as reliable, or has the cooking features of your CHAMBERS. He also needs to be made to understand that these things are SO well built and SO reliable that there have been VERY few problems with them, from a safety standpoint. If they weren't, then there wouldn't be so many still in use...

DON'T DO IT LAKEGIRL ! KEEP THE RANGE !!! You know we've only had our range for two weeks and now I'm on the road eating in restaurants....I'd give a lot to be back in the kitchen with the Chambers. The removeable gas safety latches are the coolest and are as easy to take out and replace as a spoon from a drawer. Father may know best but this time...uh uh...he doesn't.

Dad could save you a lot of money if you keep your Chambers, install the safety shut off valve and do a general clean up.

Sorry to hear that! No way of convincing your Dad? Did you tell him about the safety system that you can get? Your dad sounds pretty handy so he probably could do it for you. Tom Plumieri(sp?) from this site can email you directions on how to do it. Prehaps you can have Todd talk to him.

Yes, I'm gonna keep it, plus I don't want to shell out the money for a stainless steel stove to match my fridge, With the stainless steel top on the chambers it doesn't clash with my fridge anyway!!
And I'm still dying to start cooking on it.
I can see my dad eyes rolling already!!

GOOD FOR YOU! Now you have to name her/him. You're going to be so glad you kept your chambers. Once you have it hooked up try the recipe I posted and have your dad over for dinner...it'll make a believer out of him.

Lakegirl ! You'll love your stove ! We think our dog may have become jealous....all we seem to do is cook and bake now that the thermostat is in place and it looks like the oven is holding to one degree off calibration...is "calibration" the proper term ? You made the right choice.
