Where's the buzz?

Is it just me or has the 'action' figure business gone into a slump? After reading the 'What are you getting from McF this year' post on the white board, it seems there's less and less coming out that has people excited.

To me there are too many redo's, repaints, and rehashes. And the licensed product doesn't do a whole lot for me either. There just isn't anything that seems to have a lot of 'WOW' factor in it.

It doesn't seem that many other companies are dishing out the excitement right now either.

I haven't bought new Spawn figs in quite a while.
gimme another Dark Ages line, and we'll talk.
I don't need 40 versions of black suit/red cap Al Simmons.
mind ya, McF has never been my #1 company anyways.
up there, sure, but not tops.

I am in the same boat - too many lines are disappearing from my radar and nothing to fill the gaps.

McFarlane hasn't really caught me in the non Spawn area all that much lately - a few music, and I am even getting worn out on the Spawns.

Dragons though - that is another story!

Star Wars has all but died for me, SMC and ML are only a few figures a year now as they are getting into characters that I didn't read or didn't get into.

LotR has died a death and G.I. Joe wasn't ever anything more than a figure here and there.....

There are a few small things like Mag Wariors that are interesting me, but when it all comes down to it, I look at it as a chance for me to get the 100 or so Gungdam models built that I have in bookcases all boxed up! [img]wink.gif[/img]

Well, I think there is lots of groovy stuff coming out, just not from McToys. If there wasn't, it wouldn't matter too much to me anyway, as there are plenty of vintage toys out there that I want, and will keep me busy for many more years. [img]smile.gif[/img]

As far as toys,
As far as McF- I'll still be keeping up with the Spawn stuff, but not much else.

A few Marvel figures, maybe a Movie Monster or two from NECA & SOTA

Really interested in seeing where Funko's Fantastik Plastik line goes-
(Undergog! Mad Monster Party!)
we'll see........

& lots of room for Vintage figures........

I'm also getting a lot more DVDs then I thought I'd ever get,
and a few CDs

So far all I want is the 20" SOTA pumpkinhead and the NECA Samara box set. If it comes out good. The medieval highlander sounds cool too.

I think McF's problem right now is over-saturation of the market. They've released way to many dragons and soldiers in way too small a time frame. Not to mention the tons of Corpse Bride stuff plaguing the toy isle. Those will still be on the shelves when series two comes around. And the amount of rehashes they've been doing lately hasn't helped either.

And I understande the reason behind doing so, but they spend too much time on sports figures and put out lackluster in-house/licensed figures.

While they are a small company compared to TMP, SOTA is definately the top notch company right now. They have ahigh quality figures and a nice variety to choose from.

I am waiting for SOTA Now Playing series 2 and 3, but their release dates suck big time.......

From McFarlane, The Dracula Boxset, The Simpsons Boxset, Billy Idol and Jailhouse Elvis.

I'm still geeked about the Corpse Bride stuff.... but that's about it for now from McF...

But i did just get a couple cases of Pirates and Ninja Mez-itz for Xmas and these things fucking rock! [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Also, Sideshow's Metaluna Mutant just came out...

Actually, there's tons of new stuff coming out i NEED. Unfortunely, McF isn't making very much of it...

With Takara pretty much at the end of the line of Cy Girl remakes, I'm pretty much out except for a couple of Hot Toys soldiers.

The continued decline of the specialty market retailers is going to hurt Mctoys doing much in the way of stuff that's really 'out' there. You won't get much new in the way of twisted, tortured, or just plain freaky since TRU and Wal-mart won't carry them, and the retailers that did are drying up.

Except for a few Spawns , Dragons and Hockey goalkeepers there isent much from MCF toys I get..but I got Kotobukiyas SW line to get and of course my big thing TRANSFORMERS G1

like OCE said, I thhink the choices are what's killing the buzz.
I don't need 40 Al as Spawn figs, and they'll never top the original Mandarin.
most of the movie choices seem...odd, at best.
apart from Dracula, since people have been screaming for that for a long time.

I look at some of the properties that other companies are doing, and can't help but wonder why Todd didn't pick' em up.

the only mcfarlane figures I'm interested in getting are the dragons. I thought about getting some corpse bride figures, but eh..I probably won't. I thought about getting the new mandy and lotus, but eh..can't be bothered. There's nothing that is really getting me excited about action figures anymore.

it all went downhill when they went bankrupt. That's when they started trying to make as much money as possible with out spending any...

Still, Corpse Bride!

The dragons and soldiers seem to sell the best out of everything. Obviously they're trying to pump out as many dragons as possible because you can clearly see the third line was pieced together from parts of the first and second. The only reason Dracula is even being released is its all they had started for MM8 before they killed it. It's a shame but they just don't have the in house talent to do original lines anymore. That's why they've done a couple dozen Al spawns and lines like Conan just die a painful death after hanging on the pegs. Cool licenses, beatiful execution, crappy ideas and designs. Talk to some of the X-Mcf at Comic con and they'll tell what happened to the co.

I'm all up for Al Spawns... unlicensed stuff is great, but not when it's just for the sake of doing it.

Maybe an Articualted Al Spawn...
