I had the itch to play some Latin
again and heard this tune, which I
thought had a lot going on in the
background, challenging me.
I'm not totally pleased with it but
it was fun and allowed me a chance
to work some things.
If you'd like the track, without the
drums, just let me know and I'll post
it for you, so you can have fun too.
As you know, I think there's a lot
of value in playing to these. I think
it opens the ears, as well as gives
us the opportunity to experiment and
all within a framework.
I tried some weird things, some of
which worked out, I think and others
that may not have. Listen and see if
you can spot them.

Damn. That's a sick horn section arrangement! Whoever did this arrangement was a real badass! Pete, your playing is really tasty as well, not to OTT, which is hard for electronic drums (i assume, thats what they sound like). Some sick grooves around about the trumpet solo. Yeah, sweet! Have you got a chart of this or did you learn all the horn phrasings by ear? They're quite complicated and you nail em every time. Thanks man.

The chart must look impossible but I
know there are guys like Alex out there
that can cut them.
My view is that whatever we're trying
to, we have to find what works.

Pete it's sound ok but sound like someone trying to emulate someone latin, it sound ok, you should check gyus like Antonio Sanchez he's the man, he can beat the crap out of Horacio with one hand honestly, check him on the MD Festival of 2003 sick stuff. Regarding your recording it was ok but you were too much concentrate on the accent and really lost some of the groove and let me tell you that in latin music the accent are important but more important is the groove that you lead in the band and public.
That's my two cents, quite valuable...!!!

part in a mix of percussion parts that
originally did not have it. I will remem-
ber to keep that groove in mind. I
don't want to lose that, for sure.

No, seriously...you could come up a little more in the mix- this way I can hear what you were doing with the ride, among other things. You still recording to a minidisc?
Did I hear some double-bass action? Yeah!
Now, I would play something COMPLETELY different...I usually hear a pattern closer to what Robby Ameen plays. Actually, what I play usually resembles a Brazilian Baiao more than anything- simple and safe...for the verses, anyway...

at the kit, again, today but have
to get back. I pumped it up a little
more. It's too hot for me but I
think you can hear what you want
more. The middle section saw a
couple of trigger failures but it's
the idea. I hope you like it.
