A few of my AG loving friends think it is a bit odd to do this...I dont think it is! I only HAVE historicals! (well, and Marisol [img]wink.gif[/img] )
I sometimes feel guilty for doing this for some really odd reason.....like im cheeting my poor girls out of their past. haha.
We do it all the time. No problem. But we rarely share historical clothes between girls. It just doesn't look right to me.
I have 2 historicals (Kirsten and Nellie) and I put them in modern clothes.
I know some people only put each doll in their period clothes, including today, but our Addy and Kit both like to wear their clothes and modern clothes.
Addy is about to get some of Kirsten's clothes, too, that I think are appropriate.
Also, dd really wants one of Elizabeth's dresses, but I honestly can't see either one of them in one of those. . . .

My Shantelle(rewigged Addy)wears modern clothes because I made her into a today girl but she wore Molly's evergreen velvet dress for Christmas. She was especially pretty in that one.
All my dolls swap clothes. Is is accurate? Of course not. Do I care? Not particiuraly.
As far as I am concerned , all my dolls are modern girls. Some of them just happen to look ALOT like certain historical book characters, and enjoy dressing like them.
My white bodied Molly has always worn "modern" clothes. DH found her at Goodwill in a doll size nightgown, so I had to use what we had available (which were some handmade ebay purchased clothes). I really thought she was an AGOT since her hair was perfectly straight (until I found this board and y'all straightened me out!) She's also fond of some of Angie's (GillyGals) sweater and pant sets, and is currently wearing the TollyGirls camo set which cost all of $3.00 on clearance, and is in honor of DH, who absolutely loved anything camo!
But our dolly clothes closet has grown to include some of Molly's "genuine" outfits, so I guess she could wear some of her own now, if she wanted! (They were a present for my youngest daughter's Molly).

I have Kit an Samantha, and except for Kit wearing her Christmas dess over the holidays, they never wear historical outfits. Right now Sam is wearing the Fly Fishing outfit, and she looks adorable. [img]smile.gif[/img] My favorite outfit for Kit is the Play outfit. Out of all my dolls and outfits, I think that it is the best combo I've ever seen. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

The only historical that I dress in modern clothes is Kaya. She wears Native American clothing and modern clothing. I'm not sure why I do this, but I do. I guess it's because I only have 1 outfit for Kaya besides her meet outfit.
I feel sinful if I even think of putting them in out of period clothes.
I only have Kit, Marisol and now Jess, but I have several other AG size dolls too. I have a lot of the AG historical outfits and accessories, so they all wear whatever is appropriate to the scene I'm setting, and what looks cute on them! I have a couple of dolls whose hairstyles limit what looks good on them (Kit just can't be made into a Colonial era girl!) But I think they like sharing clothes and sometimes we come up with a stunning combination. My redhead Gotz Sarah Walking her Dog looks much cuter in Molly's Christmas dress than the pictures I've seen of Molly wearing it. The contrast with Sarah's almost carrot-red hair and the green velveteen is a real standout! Lin
I really liked the Flapper costume (for I've always wanted a 1920s historical even if they wouldn't have dressed like adults) and thought about buying it, even if it meant Felicity would have to wear it. I didn't though for it just didn't seem right.

My collection is AG's of Today; however I bought a few historical dolls to reflect my overall divesity theme. I have Josefina as a Hispnic today girl, Kaya as a Native American today girl, and 5 Addys as 5 African American today girls.
I do buy some of the historical dress because I prefer more modest clothing for them and some of the historical dress are quite nice.
I am 51, so I prefer traditional looking modest clothing to the newer trendy items.

I dress my Molly in whatever seems to look best on her regardless of period... She doesn't complain.

Right now, the only thing I have done is put a Gilly Gals pullover over top of Kit's hobo outfit.
I don't. I do, though, dress my LE dolls in historical clothing more than modern clothing.

my two "girls" like to swap clothes- Felicity will wear Susie's clothes and Susie has worn Felicity's dresses. I don't really care if some other people might think it's weird.

I do have one doll, a My Twinn Friend, who is a "time travel" doll that I dress in homemade fashions. I dress her in any period?s fashions?-from Kate Greenaway to the 1950s to today. It?s kind of freeing to be able to do that, but she?s the only doll
For some reason I just can't get over thinking American Girls are supposed to be historical. I think it has to do with knowing about them for several years before AGTs were released. So even seeing modern clothing on any of the dolls looks wrong to me. Yes, I couldn't get used to my AGTs because they looked so out-of-place in modern-day wares . . . I think that's one reason I gave them away! [img]wink.gif[/img]

Typically, I keep my girls in their historical clothes, but for Thanksgiving, I wanted to give them all something nice to wear, so seven of the girls wore the AGOT holiday outfits from 1999-2004 (Maddie, my AGT20, always wears the newest holiday dress for Christmas so I couldn't bear to put anyone in the chocolate cherry outfit), and Sam, Nellie, and Marisol wore Sam's spring party dress, Nellie's spring party dress, and Sam's croquet outfit, respectively. They all looked cute and Elizabeth looked especially stunning in the radiant rhinestones outfit.
I've also dressed Nellie in pretty much everybody's clothes--she particularly likes the AGOT clothes, but is also fond of Addy's cape island dress.
So I don't think it's weird sending clothes across the generations. I think it's fun. :>)
