Kaya's New Home

Well she just arrived. I am absolutly flabbergasted! She is breath taking. She has to be in a whole nother league. She isn't ANYTHING like the other AG's just gorgous! She is a must for any collection, and I can't believe I hesitated as long as I did!! I hate myself for waiting this long to get her. Ok she's definatly one of my favorites now. I thought that with Nellie and Jess there wouldn't even be another in their league (as nellie looks like me and jess has my personality). But man was I wrong. I love all my dolls but some just have a little bit of extra special-ness.

Ok time for a review.

The doll is again breath taking. She has to have the longest hair of all the other AGs. Her eyes are wide and a most beautiful shade of brown, I believe they are the same shade as Jess' but because of Kaya's darker toned skin they seem to "pop" all the more. I wasn't sure if I'd be super keen on the closed mouth mold... but it absolutly makes the doll. Her lips are full and just beautiful. I am LOVING this face mold.

Her dress. It is so soft and lucious. In the pictures I imagined that it was going to be some what corse. But it is just as soft as real dear skin. Very VERY impressed! I haven't taken her moccassins off, so I can't comment on those. I will say this is definatly a cuddable doll.

Two things I was surprised at, that was a bit of a shock. First there is a smudge on her dress. Sometimes both artifical and real leathers will have smudges like this, so I called CS, and asked about it. I was hoping if it was a problem they'd send me a new dress and NOT a new doll. Already bonded and I'm not giving her up. But they told me that it's suppose to be a thumb smudge, which is historically acurate. I did not know that and no one knows what this signifies (I'd love to know please tell me if anyone on the board has any information). Breath a sigh of relief because I wasn't parting with her. Something to know for those thinking of getting Kaya.

The next is I don't feel she is really a doll for a small child. My daughter is absolutly enraptured by her... she is running around the house talking to her and fetching her real food... which isn't the problem. I just noticed the way that some of her fringe and decoration's on her dress are applied would be easy for a small child to mess up.

Well that's my review. I've got one pic, because of all days today my camera felt it would wig out.

I'm so glad you love your Kaya. Did you attack the UPS man when he finally got there?

I've had mine for a long time, and only recently realized that she is BEAUTIFUL!
She looks good in everything.

The way you describe Kaya is wonderful. Can you put up a pic of her? Please do I have thought of getting her and I am not sure to get her.

Skittl1321 does any of your albums have a pic of kaya?

~Kirby~

I agree Kaya isn't the most kid friendly doll. I am an adult and am always afraid I will damage the outfit taking it on and off.

Of course, I had to take the meet outfit off mine permenently though because my sister's CAT kept attacking the fringe. I know it's not real leather but it's close enough she finds it very tasty.

Congratulations on getting Kaya! Your description DOES make me want her. Kaya, like Addy, is better in person. The catalogue does not do them justice!

Miss Nellie, have you read Kaya's books? The smudge isn't just any smudge. Hers is made with something she really loves and sometimes gets in trouble over. It doesn't mention the smudge specifically in the books, but with the coloring of it, it just has to be... given her zest for... well, you gotta read the books.

When we went to Chicago, my mom almost had a panic attack when we were leaving the hotel. She had never noticed the smudge before and thought Kaya had gotten something on her dress. We decided to check the other Kayas in the store to see if it was normal. We stood in front of the case in the bookstore, looked at that doll, looked at each other and said, "______ stain!"

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, but not in her original outfit, I don't think.
You can check the "Samantha finds a box album, she might show up once, maybe"

I know there is one in the craft album, and she is in the "kirsten" album.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Okay, you gotta help me out. I've read the books and can't place what you are talking about. Can you point to the specific book I should look to?

Where on the dress is the smudge- I've never seen it. I'm not good at noticing detail- it was a year before I noticed her mouth was closed!

Thanks for the review! She is on our wish list.

I have turned Kaya into my sig picture for all to enjoy!

As for the books, yes I have read all the core books (meaning no short stories or mysteries) and I do not understand the smudge either. The CS at AG said it was a thumb print. Please let us know what this means.

As for where the smudge is. Do you see the white beads (or suppose to be porcupine quils) in the center of the dress it the bead design dips and it is right there.

Love the sig picture. I see the smudge by the white beads. How could I miss that? It's big.

Did you buy her from AG or get her online?

I ordered her on AG's web site!

OOOH!!! She is gorgeous!
I plan on getting her sometime soon! Now I know FOR SURE that I absolutely need her in my collection! Thanks for the review!

I just went and looked at my Kaya's Meet dress. It has the mark. I have had her for 2 1/2 years and never noticed it. I guess I join the ranks of the unobservant.

SPOILERS IN THIS POST... DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT DETAIL FROM KAYA'S BOOKS!!!

It's a berry juice stain/thumbprint. Remember how she sneaks off to eat berries and gets in trouble for eating more than she picks? The color of the smudge, it has to be berries. And don't feel badly about not noticing it, Skittl. My mom is extremely detail oriented and very particular about her dolls. She had Kaya almost two years before she noticed it.
ETA: I don't know which books the berries are mentioned in. I borrowed them from my mom to read them, so I don't have them here to reference.

I think i know what the smudge means.... in her world book it talks about making the deer dresses and it said that out of respect for the deer the tail was left on the hide. since the hides were used upside down the tail was on the chest/neck of the dress. I think this is what the smudge is meant to be.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">ummm I have read kayas books numerous times and this is never mentioned in any of them. i remeber her getiing in trouble for running off to ride her horse.

I am so excited to hear your awesome review. Kaya was our, I mean my daughters first doll after wanting her for a year and is still her favorite. We absolutely adore her. She has always felt like she was at the bottom of the list for a lot of board members and I know your opinion counts so you will definitely be responsible for taking a few Kaya's off the warehouse shelves and into good, loving homes. I know her collection is small but it is really pretty cool. Welcome to the Kaya fan club!!

We love her too!! I ordered her and Nellie for Christmas 2004 and when they came I opened the boxes and just couldn't stop staring at them they are soooo gorgeous!!!!!!! And I love Kaya because she is so uniquely different.
And LOL I thought that was a stain on the dress too!!! Then I realized it was from the story after I read about it.

I'm going to need both Kaya and Addy in my collection soon too! Hmmm... *plots to save money for yet another AG!*

I'm so glad you love your Kaya. I love mine, too - she is one of my favorite dolls, and has my absolute favorite face mold. It seems like a lot of people don't really like her that much, so I'm always thrilled to see another Kaya convert. Congrats on your new beauty!

The "smudge" is supossed to be a deer tail. My Kaya's dress does not have it and I wish it did.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mine has it and it is dark brown with a red tint... which is where I can see the berry story coming from. But I'm not sure thats what it is supposed to be. I think the deer tail is more likely, because when I looked at the book illustrations, all the females have one on their outfit.

I do not think this is a berry stain as the CS lady told me that they had to put it on there to be culturally accurate. She had no idea what that ment (symbolizim wise)

I will tell you one thing about her in the catalogue and on the web page, the pictures are MOST uncomplimentry. Her face looks flat and almost squished... but in person she is absolutly LOVELY. I think that my home picture (Taken in a hurry because my camera is all goobered up) captured her true spirit much more than AG has of yet.

I admit I fell in love with Kaya through her stories, and with the force push/pull of MissMooMoo I commited to buy her... and I can honestly say I am not the least bit disappointed.

If you have ever hesitated about getting Kaya, because you aren't sure about how she looks in the catalogue pics... hesitate no longer she is no less than STUNNING

Again I say she is in a WHOLE AG league of her own. They better get more stuff for her... because besides Nellie and I can say that Kaya is the only other doll I'll be collecting EVERYTHING for.

Just to clarify, I didn't say it was from eating berries. I meant it made sense to me that the mark would be made with berry juice or stain. In Kaya's time all dyes were made of something found in nature. It's the correct coloring for many types of beries, but certainly not all berries.
Her love of berries is mentioned in her books, at least twice.

YEP YEP YEP!!!! I have her too and love her to pieces!!!

She is indeed a beautiful dollie! Congratulations!..and give her a <font size="5">BIG</font> from me!

ah ok that makes sense... you are right the dye of the berry would be used as a permanite way to decorate her dress... its all soo clear now!

You bet prsnlrd I will read her a bed time story tonight that envolves Emperor prsnlrd and Darth Ria! mwahaha... got to start em out young.
