Ebay : Thermowell cover

New ebay listing 7591458419. I need one of these but I am concerned about the corosion. The seller has other chambers items as well.

I think I would pass on this one. It looks like some of the metal is corroded through to the core.

I noticed the seller says he/she thinks this could "easily be restored." That's quite a stretch. Thermowell lids don't look like they would take kindly to being dismantled. There are no screws or other fasteners, just crimped metal.

If you need a new one, then choose one that looks good and isn't rusty and dented all to bits.

TOAC has new reproduction lids. They're a little pricey, but if you want one now, it's an option.

Thanks everyone - I feel better now! Having not seen the real thing I didn't know how "restorable" they might be. I'll check the tip on TOAC and I also put an email oot to Hughes appliance. I am sure patience will win out and I eventually will have the full use of my Beauty. I am excited to think of making a thermobaker pie.

It says the seller is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I'm in a suburb of Tulsa, but I don't know who this is.

When they get bent up like that, they're prety much ruined.

I'm in the market for a thermowell cover as well. Mine has a whole from rusting through. Probably had been washed and submersed in water at some point. Totally ruined. That one on Ebay looks worse than mine. I will probably take the hit at TOAC, unless I find one used somewhere else.

I'd wait for a decent one to show up on eBay, Frank - those places charge an AWFUL lot for them. You can usually find someone parting out a CHAMBERS on eBay every month or so...

Looks like so much junk to me.

Frank, there are used but clean thermowell covers for 100.00$ at Hughs place and new ones for $140-

Ouch! I'd wait for ebay. They show up pretty often.

OK guys. I found someone with a Thermowell lid for sale at a very reasonable price.

She's cleaned and polished it already, but she says it has a few dings, "nothing serious, but not perfect." I suspect that it probably has the small dents that show up inevitably on the aluminum top - like BOTH of mine have. If you want it, she'll sell it for $25 plus $8.00 shipping. I've dealt with this person before, and she's a good source.

This is meant especially for Phoebe or fschimmel, but if neither of you want it, then I'll happily connect the next person to this very nice Chambers salvager!

Ditto on not bidding on this T-well cover!!
It is not a "restorable" part, for the reasons stated and pretty much abused looking!!

Something Sam taught me; If A T-well lid is submerged in water it ruins the rock wool. (says that is service manual)
To be able to see if this has happen, shake it, if it sounds like sand or gravel in it, it is pretty much ruined!!

Hi Phoebe! I'll send her info to your email address, and you can ask her anything you like!! She's done this for a while, so I'd be very surprised if there was a problem, but you should definitely ask any specific questions you have. She did clarify that the dings are indeed the tiny aluminum dents the lids seem to get so readily! Check your email.

Way to go, yeah UI know you walked away from your previous bid, but you beat me to this one. I see your also looking at some tripple pots. I am watching. So don't walk away from that one. I bought myself a thermobaker from Hugh today. At first they couldn't find a rack 'till they realized they had been using it in the rice cooker to steam tamales. They will wash it and send it along! I then had to go get a tamale for lunch!

Gosh, you'd think they'd be cookin' gumbo os something!

Frank - go to the antique malls, junk yards and thrift stores! I You live in an area where you could very well find chambers accessories, I live in a place where nobody even knows about the joy of gas cooking unless they came from somewhere else!
The lady who is sending me the thermowell cover is going to look out for more accessories while bargain hunting - I feel feel like I have a personal shopper!
Hugh's Place is in Port Allen (the home of cajun tamales) and if you go there i will certainly be envious (reason enough to go). See" Hugh's Place two thumbs up" recent post..

Junk Yards, Antique Malls, Thrift stores. Time is a huge issue for me. That said, my wife probably wouldn't mind. Port Allen looks to be too far out of the way for this trip. Cajun Tomales sound good though, hmmm.
