I want to know too! I don't have ANY yet for dd's Kit, but would love to find some very reasonably priced stuff. I have a picnic basket for Kit for Easter, but it's empty! Thanks for starting the thread. I will be watching the responses.

You can go to Hobby Lobby or something and make it out of Sculpey or other clay stuff. It's easier, and besides getting what you want, you get the pride of having made it yourself.
DD and I made Sculpey peanut butter cookies a couple of weeks ago and they turned out great. We bought a light brown colored package of Sculpey on sale for $.99 at Michael's. We just rolled up a ball, pressed it flat a bit and then used a toothpick to make criss-crosses. I'll try to get DH to take a picture and post them. Sculpey comes in a wide variety of colors and it seemed very easy to work with. It was a quick and inexpensive craft and DD and I both enjoyed making them.
Yes, Everyone, I would LOVE to see pix!!!! It sounds like so much fun, and I'm sure my daughter would love doing it too! Now if only I could find the time.......
Craft stores also have mini artificial fruit & veggies. We have purchased carrots, peppers, apples, pears, oranges, grapes, pumpkins, etc. Some items are seasonal. The wedding aisle can be good, too. They have mini party favors that are perfect for dollies. Silver trays, "crystal" baskets and glasses. My girls are always on the lookout for these small items. "Look, Mom! It's perfect for our American Girl dolls."
I'll have to go check out Michael's to see what they have -- that's the only craft store around here.
Does anyone know of a good website that might have some ideas? I will probably need some help with the details, as I have little-to-no crafting experience.
I have two sets of the birthday cookout accessories, and the hamburgers that come with that have the most amaaaaazing detail! I would love to be able to do something even a little close to that. The s'mores from the camping utensils are also beyond adorable!
momemouse beat me to the great tip about craft store foods. These are usually in near the floral supply; people use them in wreaths and other floral decorations.
My mom made a Thanksgiving cornucopia for her doll, full of Fall-related fruits/veggies, and got an apple, too. You can get some pretty accurate sizes in these miniature foods.
I have bought doll food from an ebay seller - food4dolls - that I think is the cutest. Some is a little pricey, but very, very cute. Also - a very nice seller.
Have fun looking at her stuff. . .don't know how to post a link, but you can look her up once you get onto ebay.
Have fun!
Sandy
At Wal-Mart, they have all kinds of play food with real brand names! Subway, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, etc. Yes it's a little on the big side but because it's child-size it's smaller than real food. I haven't bought any of it yet due to space and money restraints, even though they're not that expensive.
I do have some glass salt and pepper shakers that look like real Coke bottles. I got them from Linens N Things. They're a bit expensive-$2.50 a piece or $5 for a pair. But they're perfect size for dolls.
Click below for a pic of my dolls with the Coke bottles.

I have also bought from the ebay seller food4dolls and agree that her stuff is great! She is very nice to deal with and we've gotten several, several things from her. I'm very pleased with everything I've purchased from her.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes, I've bought from her too. I bought an adorable Valentine's Day cake and a set of cookies. That's actually how I got the idea to make our own peanut butter cookies.Quote:

It is really fun, and quite easy once you get the idea. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's food!
There are a lot of FIMO foods in my albums. A board member made them. She used to sell all of these items to HB members. I think she will be selling again in the fall.
I love making doll food. Its my all time favorite thing to make, and quite easy and fun. Get FIMO and make whatever you need. Eggs sunny side up are super easy, start with a ball of white and flatten it out, then do a smaller ball of yellow and place on top. Once you start to practice you'll see how easy it is. Then you bake it and it hardens, and you've got dollie food.
I made a full breakfast of eggs, toast, oranges, and bacon. I've also made cakes, bagels, prezles, cookies, etc.
I'll post pics of all of this soon.

I bought sculpy one day when my DD had a few of her friend over. We really had a blast.. they came up with some really cute food, hamburgers, ice cream cones, pizza... With the 50% off coupon its really cheap and a great craft for kids.. I would reccomend it to anyone!!
One of my friends came over last week and we made food out of modeling clay.It wasn't as good as FIMO though. We made a bowl and put Spagetti and Meetballs in it.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">WOW! I love the High Tea foods. The gingerbread men are adorable. We'll have to try our hand at them soon. The HB member who makes these is very talented. Thanks for sharing.Quote:

Cherry is the master. My girls prefer to eat her treats than anything else. Felicity epsecially loves her Shrewsbury Cakes and Queen Cakes and Kirsten loves St. Lucia buns. I made some Halloween candy one and it was fun and not too difficult to do. I also made cut-out cookies which were very easy.
This is one package of tan Sculpy , and half of a package of brown. It was about $3 total.

OMG!! Those are fantastic!! I am definitely going to try this. I saved your picture on my computer and will print it out to use as a guide -- thanks! Great job!
Anna,
Those are too cute! Please, we need detailed directions here.

Thank you.
I don't know if you have a "Michael's" craft store nearby, but in todays newspaper there is a coupon for 40% off of any one regular priced item. They have a huge set of Sculpy with a lot of colors for about $25.00 (before the coupon). It could be a pretty good deal if you plan on making a lot of food.
BREN, Thank you. Here you go: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2108600728

I will check that set out, Anna -- thanks. Yes, we do have a Michael's here -- it's the only craft store in town. I'm not so crafty myself, but it seems like it would be fun to try -- and my daughter certainly loves the whole "tiny treats" concept. I'm sure it will be time well spent together, no matter how they turn out.
American_Mommy, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
DD will be thrilled to try these out and your pictures and directions are AMAZING. We collected three of the Michael's coupons today and we'll try making some more cookies this week. GREAT JOB!!
MOM to JILLIAN, Thank you. Your daughter is SO CUTE! You sound like me with the coupon collecting. I love those 40% off coupons. There are so many things I "need" from the craft store.

Anna,
Thank you for the detailed directions & awesome pictures. I appreciate you making an album. DD will have fun trying her hand at these, but she will probably wait til' she buys her next doll before buying Sculpey. She's pinching those pennies. lol. We will use Michael's coupons when the time comes to purchase...gotta' love those 40% off ones.

What is the type/brand of clear gloss that you use to paint over them?
Well, We are all kinda geeks around here, and we paint metal miniatures for fantasy tabletop wargames. The gloss I used is Citadel brand varnish. Any kind of clear brush on gloss should be fine. Even clear nail polish would work.
I make a lot of Jewelry and other things from the Polymer Clay. I use Future Floor Polish for my varnish on the baked clay. I also wanted to make sure that you follow the temperature listed on the brand of Polymer Clay that you use. Polymer clay bakes at low temperatures and different brands bake at different temperatures. Clay can burn very easy and any smoke from burning clay can be toxic to humans and especially to small pets. I always bake my clay in my clay oven on the counter near the stove with the exhaust fan on.

I really am going to post pictures soon, I promise.
Anna,
How awesome! I ordered sculpey from Dick Bliss online when I saw the first post. (Sadly the nearest Michaels is hours away.) Now I can hardly wait for it to get here. Guess I better get a paint order together. I'm sooo excited. Now.... which cookie do I make first? Thanks for the detailed directions, you are very talented. ~Bugs
Thanks for the additional info, Anna, and for the safety tip, Kathy (I have had many the stove-related mishap!).
I updated my album and added all my food! I tried to add directions, I hope they are clear. I can't wait to hear your comments.
Here is the album, new food pictures start on #22.

Thank you American Mommy! I love thinking of new foods to make the girls.
American_Mommy, those are awesome! Looks totally real!
Can I bake FIMO in a mini-toaster oven, btw? I'd love to make a bit food for our dollies, FIMO was my hype, when I was a kid...
Thank you, I'll check on this!
Thank you Sonja! Yes, I agree with Miki. As long as your oven reaches that temprature, it should be fine.Be sure to post pics when you are done.
