I remember some shitty punk band who recorded a horrible cover version of "Untitled". What I can't seem to remember is the name of the band. Any suggestions? Anyone who knows what band it is?

A lonely highway
I'm running down
A one-way street
Well, I wanna know
Are you going my way?
Is there some place quiet
Where we can meet
And friends they come
And friends they go
But you were always by my side
And where it all ends
Well, I don't know
Don't cry no more, just hold on tight
There was a time
When I was desperate
Living in a town
Without a name
And when things got
So dark and desolate
You taught me how
To hide my shame
And kings and queens
And millionaires
May never know
What I have known
And thank the stars
I'm the lucky one
Thanks for the lessons
That I have been shown
I feel rich
I feel power
And security
And when I'm weak
You are strong
Once in a lifetime, twice
In eternity and guess what?
Nothing else
Matters anyway
I feel rich
I feel power
And security
And when I'm weak
You are strong
Once in a lifetime, twice
In eternity and guess what?
Nothing else
Matters anyway
Anyone got any ideas what this song could be about?
rumor is that mike wrote it about God... all relating to his former heroin habit
I'd say you are right. Sure sounds like it to me.
But you were always by my side
(Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.)
(Matthew 28:20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.")
And kings and queens And millionaires
May never know What I have known
(Matthew 19:23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.)
(Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.)
I feel rich I feel power I feel security
(John 5:24"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.)
(John 10:27-29 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.)
(1 Peter 1:3-4) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade?kept in heaven for you.)
And when I am weak, you are strong
(2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.)
Once in a lifetime, twice in enternity
(John 3:3-5 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!")
(Revelation 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.)
In the words of The Bouncing Souls:
"Here we go, here we go, here we go..."

There was another verus I meant to throw in there where he talks about feeling rich.

Keep in mind that you are saying what this song means to YOU... I highly doubt that you've picked up on some psycho-kinetic waves in the cosmos between you and Ness where these verses have come to you, and that's EXACTLY where the lyrics came from. The Bible is not the only book to ever have these literary metaphors.
Or in the words of Mr Ness: "Some people go to church on Sunday, others they pray at home. You tell them that there ain't no God, that they're better off standing alone."
I'm right there with you, Road Zombie.
At first I thought and even said "Well, this guy's got something that's working for him and it's so awesome to him that he wants to share it. That's cool." There reached a certain point with me where it went from trying to help me out to telling me I'm wrong. And fuck that.
We have a saying in my line of work (substance abuse treatment): "You can't help those that don't want help". When you start trying to reform people you just push them farther away; the best you can do is let 'em know what you're about and it'll be in the back of their head for when they're ready. If I ever feel like I need some Christ I'll know who to talk to. Any further attempts to indoctrinate me are futile.
I gotta do it...
To quote Social D:
"I Wasn't Born To Follow"
Doesn't the bible say to like stay in your closet and pray by yourself and not throw yourself in public while you talk about god

Geez, I cant believe this subject is already coming up again.
I think that most "born again" Christians desperately need a reason to forgive themselves, and they see it as a way out. Thats fine if thats what they need but the majority of them start being judgemental and pushing their religion on others, which is lame. I think there are alot of messed up people that hide behind religion too. Christianity seems to be a popular one (and Catholic priests). There are alot of confused people that say they believe in GOD, and they are Christian, but in my opinin its a religion of lost sheep.
Years ago, the Mauers invited me and my son to go to their Christian church. I had recently started going to another church, because I figured my son could use a little "Christ exposure" in his life, so we switched churches and started going with the Mauers. My son and their son played with each other all the time back then. They bonded over skateboarding, pirates, and Star Wars, but when Little Jack Mauer found out that my son loved Harry Potter, he got angry with him. The church said it was evil. Jack said he HATED Harry Potter. I said you shouldnt feel hate so easily, thats not Godly-like. About the same time I stopped going to the church, the minister had stepped down because he got caught cheating on his wife (same thing happened when I was in the 2nd grade when I went to a Christian school). I hate to say this, but I feel I need to make a point...I havent read the recent Mauer interview that was posted, but I read one years back that John was talking about his religion and he was being very judgemental about his fans (maybe its the one recently posted I dont know) but he basically stated that typical Social D fans are low lifes and he was so much holier than thou. I lived in the same town as John, hung out with the same friends and went to the same shows. That man was going out and partyin and was not living the Christian lifestyle, but he certainly was preachin and judgin like he was. At the same time the minister was in trouble...well lets just say the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree...and you better bet your sweet ass thats one of the reasons why hes not in the band anymore. His woman wants him at home where she can keep her eye on him.
...but Harry Potter is evil?? Gimme a FUCKIN break!
No disrespect to the Mauers, and I hope they dont catch wind of me writing this cuz they wont be happy about it. In all the years I posted on here, I have kept this under wraps, but I'm sick of this religious drama, and I feel that the Mauer story might make some impact and get my point across. I put in my 4 cents, insted of my usual two.
...and back to the original topic....
Im surprised someone else already covered "Untitled". I dont know who it is, but I would be interested to find out.
Right on Erica!
I have always wondered why the born agains are always needing to testify their faith.
I don't think Harry Potter is evil. A dork, yes, evil no. My kids really don't have any interest in him, if they did I could care less. They are into Star Wars & Teen Nick, American Idol & Gamecube, school, KIDMO, Sunday School, NASCAR, Golf, etc for the moment.
I really like "untitled" & can relate it to different things every time i listen to it. I think that is what is cool about music. It can mean a lot of different things to people in many ways.

The thing on Harry Potter is some fear that these books and movies are an invitation to the occult.
Harry Potter books and films are full of stereotypical magic. Witchcraft and wizardry are central themes, and the lead roles are played by wizards, witches, and other magical creatures. Although the characters practice casting spells, reading crystal balls, etc., they do not communicate with spiritual (supernatural) forces.
The Harry Potter series is not for young or spiritually immature children, as they may not have the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy, right and wrong, or good and evil. At best, they may be left confused about God's views about the occult, and at worst, they may become enchanted by the magical existence of Harry and his friends, becoming desensitized to occultic lifestyles. In addition, there are issues such as violence and mildly foul language that each Christian family will be sensitive to at different levels.
The Bible clearly condemns all kinds of witchcraft, sorcery and spiritism (Deuteronomy 18:10-11).
There is a spirtial world out there, and you can connect with bad spirits. Edgar Cayce the American prophet is example of that, and you hear alot of cases like this if you look.
Theres been alot of kids fall into this, and start practicing pagan stuff, and witchcraft in real life. I'm sure we all know someone similar to this.. This is very risky business..
Parents are just concerned is all...
I got no beef with the potter stuff, I'm not that familar with it.
In the interest of not saying anything I might regret, I am going to go ahead and suggest a "NO RELIGION" policy on this board. If we want to talk about Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, the satanic nature of Harry Potter or whatever, we can do it elsewhere. Just a thought...
First of all, Harry Potter is a "good witch" so their message is teaching a child to do the right thing and be strong even when the odds are against you.
Secondly, whats the matter with a child believing in a little magic? What do you think "fairy tales" are? All children are brought up by them. Children live in a fantasy world. Do you remember being a small child? I do. The world is a magical, mystical place where anything can happen, and your parents are such big people and they know everything. Maybe they should ban Disneyland next. I mean thats a magical, mystical place.
Third, what is so evil about paganism?? They are kind people, they just worship differently. So do Indians, Africans, Asians, Mideasterners etc.
Christianity was created by the white man. In the name of God, we have pilaged, stolen, raped and murdered thousands. Why do you think the pagans were looked at as evil? So, we had the exscuse to kill them and take their land. We did it to the Native Americans, and we made Africans our slaves. We put our dumbass troops in the middle of a "holy war" that has been going on since the beginning of time, because we are so arrogant that we think we should take their oil. I mean hey, we are the all and mighty powerful Americans. We can do whatever we want.
Our culture has done alot of ugly things in the name of God. We have been mindless, prejudice fucks that have to have others think for us, and remind us to turn our heads and dismiss our petty actions. We can wash away our sins, if we only believe! Durh!
Lastly, I would rather my son be a pagan then a Christian, because at least it would show that he can think for himself. My family had a shitfit when he was born, because I wouldnt baptise him. He'll burn in hell for eternity they said. If God was so wonderful, why would he do that to so many innocent people that dont even know of "the white mans faith". God doesnt judge. I think its terrible to raise your children to be scared of God. Believe in God, yes. Be scared of him no. God is Love, not Fear. When I was very young I decided I had no religion. Simply put I was spiritual. My conscious has always known the difference between right and wrong. I choose to be a good person, and to live by the golden rule. I dont need anyone to tell me whats right and wrong. Its instinct.
I do think that church is good for alot of people and I have nothing against it. It keeps people on the right path (the sheep).
My soul knows my path and there is nothing dark there.
i'm gonna go with esn212 on this one, it's really getting to be nauseating
I agree. I don't come to this board to talk about religion. I come to talk about the greatest damn band on the planet.Quote:

I think parents over-react to this myself. But witchcraft does goes against God. Not just Christians, most all Religion I have heard about. And most all Religions use the Old Testament as a basis (Even Islam). Again I think they are just being over protective.
There are positive aspects to Harry Potter. Love is shown through selflessness and self-sacrifice; Harry's own mother died to save him. There is a sense of justice, as good always triumphs over evil. Harry faces his fears and finds courage, even risking his own life for greater good. Friendships are defined by loyalty and unending devotion, even to the point of death.
But I'd like to follow up with you Erica via email and others as well.. I don't want to intrude on this thread.
But I do feel we are a "sense of family", we who come here as Social Distortion fans. And I think we need a place to air out our feelings in a loving respecting type place. As a family. Maybe another folder? I dont know how hostboard works, most forums, you can sub-divide folders. And people interesting in airing stuff like that out among fellow fans (family) could go there. I dunno. I'd like to continue with email tho until or if ever such a place exists. This tread was about what it was suppose to be about until it got off topic. But the reason I put scripture in there with the meaning of the song is so that It didnt come acrosss as my "thoughts alone". We were just trying to interpet what we thought it meant to Mike. These songs are mikes true feelings.. He doesnt make generlized lyrics. I even remember hearing in some old interviews of his, how he was amazed how his songs helped others, that he didnt think about any of that as he wrote em. They are from his heart.
I just wish Mike had someway of interacting with this board, I am thinking about writting him a letter to see if I can reach him. As I dont know how to contact via email. He could clear the air himself on his own beliefs.
I love Social Distortion, and I love thier Fans!!!
Peace be with us,

I'm not sure how I want to respond to this so I'm going to wait a few hours.....
Erica while i respect you as a fan and all your knowledge that remark about our "dumbass troops" is a little harsh. our troops are doing their job without many complaints and they are doing damn good if ya ask me. it isnt the easiest job in america but needs to be done to keep people like us safe for foreign threats I.E. iraq and afghanistan so dont bash our troops that doesnt help their moral at all they are already in a long drawn out war that they are gonna be apart of for many years to come so try to be a little more confident about your homeland
I agree it has to be done. We can't turn our back on those in need. I belive Bush is doing the right thing. If it makes our gas go up double or triple, we can't sit back and ignore people in need. The goverments of Iran and iraq do not represent the people. The people of these countries are very grateful for what America is doing... I think alot of us would be suprised what goes on in these countries that never gets primetime news.. take alook at some of this,Quote:

I applaud Bush for what he's doing...
I dont think Erica meant that, she just got bent out of shape a little.
I dont care what it costs, it all goes back to , you reap what you sow. America will surivie because of what it sows.
i also appauled Mr. Bush for everything he has done. (let the shit talking commence) i know being pro- bush isnt the most popular thing in punk but isnt punk about going against the grain?
Jumping Jesus on a trampoline....
That sound heard across the land was my 40 year old jaw hitting the ground... I'll try to keep this brief, but, WTF? Bush... you must be talking about Bush Sr, right...? Coz you can't be talking about Bush Jr, can you...? Illegal wiretapping, the federal response to Katrina, allowing Osama a six-week headstart to escape, allowing the Taliban to make headway back into Afghanistan, never finding Osama, attacking and sending into decades of civil war and unrest a country that wasn't a threat to anyone outside its own borders... should I go on?
And how the hell are the troops in Iraq protecting your freedom? They are not there to protect your right to download music and walk down the street without getting mugged and to vote and to post on a forum - they are there to protect Iraq - from a civil war, from terrorism, from falling into Iranian hands. They are in Iraq to try as hard as they can to try to make life a little easier for the next generation of Iraqis. It sure won't be a cakewalk, and while they are there they need your freakin support - but not just lip service, real support. Your government should be asking you to do without so they can have some real protection. Bush, Jr says he looks to Churchill and Roosevelt for inspiration - he should check out how they asked their citizens to make real sacrifices so the job could be done right. Sticking a made-in-China plastic flag on your SUV isn't support, its denial.
Sorry for the rant. But, shit, Luthor, religion and politics - bad, bad, bad.
Now, has anyone checked out Brian Setzer's tribute to Sun Records? Now that kicks ass.
what the fuck is THIS shit?
any mutherfucker with half a brain knows that "untitled" is about heroin.
i'm sure Mike is able to accept that his songs mean different things to different people but he doesn't want you putting words in his fucking mouth.
