It's Official - "Big Night In" Down Under!!
I can't keep it a secret any longer. I am coming to Australia for a couple of very special and exclusive shows. The details are coming soon. But I wanted my Australian fans to find out from me first.

forgive me Janie but that ^ does not = a tour of Australia. In fact it just totally reeks of a typical visit to Oz by an international artist.
Of course for the fans who will be able to attend that is fabulous news and I'm sure they'll enjoy it.

but in regards to that yeah it does look like a few "exclusive" Im not big enough to tour australia anymore gigs... not being mean or anything. I mean great for those who are looking forward to anything from him.
THough saying that if BJ announced a couple of exclusive gigs here man I would be the happiest rock chic alive LOL

Barb, perhaps 2 shows is all that he can afford. I don't imagine for one minute that Sony are funding this tour, do you? Maybe if he eventually does have a hit record, he'll tour Aus and the USA etc. more extensively. Maybe...

Aww, that truly does suck! [img]graemlins/girl_hug.gif[/img] It's so harsh when your fave band/artist give your country/home town such a wide berth isn't it. I guess that's why the Americans and the Aussies get so pissed off with DH not touring there, especially the Aussies, seeing as he's 'home grown' so to speak. [img]tongue.gif[/img]
Mind you, me and Janie might not be seeing BJ either if the Wembley contractors don't get their collective thumbs out of their arses and finih the sodding venue in time! [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img] I'm not bloody travelling to Cardiff to see them, that's for damned sure! [img]graemlins/gulp.gif[/img]
Theres NO way they wont do a wembley size gig there Terry. At the moment they are not backing down from being ready to go at wembley. But I reckon you can pretty much count on if not wembley it will either be rescheduled or if theres a place just as big? Maybe Hyde park or something. I dont really know the UK to know. But they wont do something small thats for sure.

I don't know what to say.. on the one hand, I'm very glad he's taking the "Big Night In" tour to Australia at all, because the fans there have waited a long time for him come back, I can also see where Barb is coming from in not viewing a couple of exclusive shows as tour. I think Terry has a good point, and I also don't think for one minute that Sony is funding the tour. I'm really not a fan of them at all and I can't pretend to be. I just wonder how much different the touring. promo situation would be if it were another record company. I'm very sorry that Bon Jovi aren't doing an Aussie tour, by the way, becuase I can relate to not having an artist you love so much tour your country and I've gone through that feeling of detesting where I live myself at times... you can feel like in the "wrong" place. Back to Darren, Yeah I've noticed some Aussie and U.S. fans who have really expressed their upset and dissapointment over the touring situation, and some fans from other countires as well. There was a post recently at the fc public board form an fan I'm trying to remember if they were in Russia or Germnay and they posted basically wondering where Darren was going to tour, she had been waiting for years and was slowly losing patience and the will to be a fan. I replied back saying I could relate to the furstration, that I do feel it can really try your patience at times... and I felt that unfortunately there was only so much Darren has control over,that I felt alot of it had to do with Sony. I know I don't have to tell you what happened to the thread next. I don't know when/ if things will ever change.

With Darren its kind of funny because most Aussie bands/singers couldnt get a gig that wasn't in this country. DH's main audience is UK based. He can sell shows there and they can be reasonably sized gigs. It therefore makes sense all round to tour there more often. But then it sucks big time for fans from around the world because all they want is to see their fave artist/band tour. It's kind of ironic cause most bands can tour their own countries but not others.. DH has the oppostite problem he is just not big enough here for how big he was in SG.. its not economically viable for him to tour here when right on his front doorstep in the UK is a willing and lucrative audience.
With BJ their American tour is just massive its as big as they have ever been. They have had to add dates. They are completely exhausted from all the shows they have done. They still have europe, UK, Japan and the final leg again of the US tour. So I cant say they dont tour.. It is severly dissapointing that they are not coming here and theres no real logical reason for it.. but they may just not have enough time and when it comes down to it for the PTB Australia really isnt that important in the scheme of things. Hopefully something good will end up happening here one day anyways.

Yeah well Rob Thomas actually toured here and Perth and a big part of me wanted to go.. but then I just couldnt see past hoping BJ would tour and may of needed every cent I have lol. Plus nothing seemed like it would substitute. Sure I will be kicking myself soon because I do love that man LOL

Take the location problem (this is for ANY touring artist, sport event etc) and times it by 100 for New Zealand. I'm really not sure how artists can justify coming to NZ at all because of the sheer weight of cost coming for only one or two shows.
ah the couple of shows has now been changed to one. Surely he couldn't be sneaking back for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony on Sunday night....nah lol. I'm still perplexed about the opening ceremony [img]wink.gif[/img] though I did enjoy Delta's performance when she wasn't obscured by fireworks.
I've just been reading about Wembley Terry [img]eek.gif[/img] and it's being built by an Aussie company [img]redface.gif[/img] I hope they rectify the problems pronto as there seems to be quite a line of concerts etc having to be presented elsewhere.
I also hope that BJ make it to Oz one day Kat.

It's unrealistic not to expect many Australian fans to be disappointed in light of the recent news & then to see the same ol same ol bitchfest rear it's ugly head again is just really SAD. OK it's wonderful he can come at all but for many varying reasons lots (if 'lots' still exist here) of fans will not be able to see him - does that earn the right to label fans 'greedy'. I don't really care anymore but I have great empathy for those who feel disappointed.
Personally I no longer regard DH as an Aussie artist (and haven't for a long time) rather as an international one, therefore, this current situtation is as I would expect which is why I didn't find the 'tour' news exciting. At the moment I would rather donate any money needed to travel to see him to the cyclone relief fund but that's just my priority.

[img]frown.gif[/img] I feel like some people think that the fans who are expressing their disappointment, upset ect are just doing so for the hell of it, and I resent that. I couldn't agree more that it's completely unrealistic to expect that their won't be disappointment after exclusive and special "shows" turns into just a show. Aussie fans have waited a long time for him to tour there again. I understand being greatful that he will at least be there at all, grateful to just have the music, ect but like you said the reality is with one show lots of fans who want to go will not be able to, which is sad [img]frown.gif[/img] I believe people have the right to feel what they feel and as for labeling some as "greedy" that is what I find insulting. How on earth is it greedy to be upset/ disappointed that there is just one show and that you will probably miss out on getting to see an artist you admire live? I feel like it's a bit easier to talk about just being grateful for the music when you are in a position to either travel to see shows or you live in the UK where he as been able to tour successfully. I hope no UK fans take offense to that, I'm just trying to say that it can be more difficult when you are not in as fortunate position.

I think you would know living in the US its like picking say New York to do an exclusive gig and thats it. I mean for most its days and days and many thousands of dollars of travel to get to that one exclusive gig. One gig a tour does not make. Of course there are countries he doesnt tour but alot of people who are fans in Aussie would be exactly in that same situation there are few states here in a might big country. If people cant *get* that and label others greedy then I seriousely think they need to look at how many shows *they* get to go too. Nasty b*tches is all I can say. Plus the argument of being greedy because some countries get nothing.. well one show here does not equate to all Aussies should be happy.. We are a HUGE country people HUGE. Its four hour drive for me to get to my nearest capital city here in WA-Perth. Its a 5-6 hour flight to get over east from there. MOst of my frustration comes from the whole BJ thing as this argument comes up quite a bit but most people are really sympathetic to our Aussie plight.
A little empathy at times for others situations wouldnt go astray at times.

Hypothetical question here Kat but if you were to voice your disappointment on the BJ forum(s) re them not touring Australia, what would the replies be? Would they be of the 'Don't be such a greedy bitch', 'How dare you complain!' type (as currently, and charmingly, on display on the DH fcpb) or would ppl be genuinely sympathetic, understand why you're disappointed and reply thus?

On Backstage which is the "fanclub forum" When it has been posted the people who care come in and say "we really feel for you aussies.. hope they make it there" and such comments. Of course theres always a few who say other countries dont get tours blah blah. But for the most part the people of backstage where I post were really good. Backstage have been deleting posts if people post "its official from universal that they are not touring" They dont like news that they havent heard or made official to be posted. Backstage is inhabited by a HUGE number of US fans who do get caught up in their own touring and such and dont pay much mind to anything else. But my personal experiences people have been really empathatic to my whinges LOL I was surprised how many people were really nice about it all. Most fans understood and could empathtise cause they couldnt imagine not going to a show.
On other boards it can get into a fight about it all.. but thats the way of boards I guess.
oh just to add I dont think we have been accused of greedy at any time the debate is more about logistics and economics of touring here.. sales and record companies and band commitments etc.
Plus ironically we would accept just ONE exlusive gig thats how desperate we have become lol.

I'm very glad that I don't post on any fan related forums anymore. They can be very scary places to the timid and to the casual observer. I think that I'll stick to posting on the Empire forums because at least there you can freely express opinions and feelings without some idiot mod savagely pruning and locking threads at the drop of a hat! I know my former sister in law would travel ANYWHERE in Australia to see BJ.
I've already said this privately so now I'll say it publicly, it makes me chuckle to see that despite moving us 'the inappropriate' on things have not changed [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Things do get locked on backstage at the drop of a hat for sure lol. But the thing is I am usually agree-ing with the reasons. I guess it all makes a difference in where you are coming from and how you feel about those in charge etc. Plus we do get into some good arguments and thats allowed lol.Quote:

I'm very glad that I don't post on any fan related forums anymore. They can be very scary places to the timid and to the casual observer. I think its just that I feel happier I love the band and dont have issues with Mrs B or the backstage admin.
But yes these things aren't for the lighthearted theres always fan politics involved.
I think also with Backstage its alot bigger than the online DH forum so you can dismiss who and what you dont like easily enough if you want to.

See, what I can't fathom is how a man who supposedly has such a kind heart and an empathetic soul seems to attract so many followers who's main character trait appears to be a 'fuck you' attitude. Surely they should be following his credo of 'treating the person next to you with kindness' instead of openly ridiculing and being downright hostile and venomous towards those who really are genuinely disappointed and have, imo, a legitimate grievance regarding what is happening (or in this case, not happening) at this time. What a bunch of mean spirited hypocrites.
Tamara please don't feel that way, you really care and that is what is important. If DH had no unique talent then it would be easy to 'walk away' but he does so there is always a glimmer of hope, I found that 'hope' exists outside of officialdom where you are allowed to be yourself.
If DH can't handle the reality of reading that fans are disappointed with the latest events, then tough...yes harsh I know but FFS what the hell did they expect? He wrote a message that said he woke up and decided to tour Oz, then it said a couple of special & exclusive shows, then one, wasn't that what the Max Session was? and we won't even go into the DL tour...I know these things are beyond his control but I'm sure he's disappointed, so to disallow the fans to express those feelings makes me so damn angry. Most fans can do so without personally attacking him!
You're so right Terry. Repeats again DH is NOT certain elements of his fanbase and unfortunately the actions of the minority tarnish them all.
Tamara I know its harsh but when you love something its always hard to let go. I mean many of us here stuck around for years in the "hope" it would get better. There just personally came a day for me when I had to say Im not interested anymore and wont subject myself to it.
The thing with DH okay he is not hugely popular (excuse the pun) these days. His records dont sell and chances are he has to self fund tours. I understand on that basis that things have to be kept small. It just may not be viable for more gigs here for him, for promotors for anyone. But that in no way should allow people not to feel dissapointed. People have a right to feel what they feel. Exactly the same way DH could say "Oh I'm so dissapointed I can't tour more" would everyone tell him that he's not allowed to be???? The lack of empathy and the willingness to sacrifice other fans to appear all loving to Darren on that board is what makes it an unpleasant place to be. Noone is being greedy in DH land except those who accuse others. Let people voice their concerns and answer them in a polite manner.Theres no need to lynch people for feeling sad, mad, frustrated or plain let down about a tour. They may know its not in DH's control but their feelings dont change about it. God along the lines of what Terry said just look at his collection of songs.. they all express a myriad of emotions that he was feeling at particular times, is his fanbase not allowed to feel the same???

Anyway at the moment with what is hapening regarding the so called Aussie tour I am finding it really really hard to believe that Aus will even get one show all this has happened before but I dont know why I am complaining cause he wont come to Townsville anyway I just feel like LMAO at this whole thing LOL

I'm sure you all know by now the thread was locked, I was replying to some things Marilue had said and by the the time I clicked send...I feel so pathetic and stupid for still being an online fan at all and having anything to do with this. What an idiot I am for ever going back there when I vowed I wouldn't, for ever thinking for one moment that things could change. I wish I were as smart as the rest of your here, but no [img]frown.gif[/img] It's just the same be happy, shut up, fake smiles, be a sheep, don't say anything "negative", you have nothing to complain about attitude and it does my head in. But I'm to blame becuase I just have been able to let go completely though deep down I feel like screw it all. Kat, you are right I think some just forget how vast Australia is. It definitely would the same as if Darren just had one show here in New York.. I mean I'm in Maryland and live a couple of hours away from NYC I might be able to manage, but what about fans on the West coast in California for example? I meant we vast and spred out too, at lot of people simply wouldn't be able to afford to. Honestly I'm sick of hearing "you should just be grateful" I personally feel like it has nothing to do with that. They just don't anyone to express any kind of disappointment. It would be nice if there were a little more empathy and not labeling some as "greedy". It sounds like there is more emapthy on the BJ board than at the dh public board, that's good at least.
