I've been looking at vintage fridges and have been very discouraged for many reasons. Some are really GROOVY on the outside but, the insides s-u-c-k! Tiny freezers, no icemaker (ok, so I'm spoiled... what of it!?!?).
This unit is available at www.bigchillfridge.com Price: $2700 (Icemaker adds $150). A bit pricey but, cheaper than the competitors. Elmira's Northstar starts at $4000! The Big Chill has a bigger capacity.
Hmmmm....wonder how much it will cost to have this baby shipped?

Well, I suppose if I hadn't been SO excited, I would have seen the posted price of $300 for curbside delivery. Another $100 to bring it in the house. Why would I need that? I've got a great big, burly man hubby to help with that!

We have kept our icemaker turned off and disconnected for over a year now.
Live without ice. Think how much better your life would be without ice in your drinks. Think how much more quickly you can quench your thirst without getting brain-freeze. Less ice in the fridge means more room for the important things like ice cream sandwiches and fish sticks, the staples of a proper diet.

Brain-freeze is EXACTLY the reason I NEED an ice maker!
Ice in my margaritas (and other adult beverages) prevents rapid consumption. Which prevents rapid intoxication. Which reduces the burning of food and thereby saving money on our food bill.
So, purchasing this ice maker will actually SAVE us money!
The room it takes is just not an issue. We've got a freezer in the garage that is perfectly capable of holding many gallons of BlueBell. Which is our only frozen, pre-prepared food requirement.

That is the exact model I bought for the same reasons you state. We had been using a 1943 Montgomery Ward which was so tiny (still have it tho) I paid $2500 - I think shipping was 250- it weighs about 400 lbs and was bolted to a pallet and wrapped and wrapped and wrapped very secure and safe, but a pain to get loose of all the trappings....it was not an easy task for 2 reasonably strong adults to move it, but, I am only 5' tall....check the dimensions....we had to remove ALL the doors into the house and in the house to get it into the kitchen. Its very big. Picture a regular refrig wrapped in 1950's dress....it takes up space! Other than that, I love it. So Far! Good luck and consider the moving guys - I wished I had!

so solly all you futurists. We are now on our second stand alone ice-maker. One of the first appliances we put in while living in a world of studs and insulation for a few years. One thing I have always hated were ice cube trays, and broken refrigerator/freezer ice-makers. ...and I'm the one that doesn't put ice cubes in my water...do tea though...v when in Texas, live like a Texian

After six weeks with our vintage 1955 Hotpoint fridge, fully enamelled body, just like the Chambers stove, complete with full size lighted freezer, eggs, butter [heated compartment] and cheeses in the door, three pullout shelves, two pull out vegetable bins and a meat keeper, we are excited to find the freezer is more than adequate in size and is frightengly cold, the storage capacity of the fridge is as good as our former JennAir. We make ice manually and water comes from the tap or a bottle. Our first electrial bill [since the new old fridge arrived] came a few days ago and we are down about 15% in ! The lack of forced air circulation keeps food fresher much longer than a modern frdige..think upright root cellar, that's what these old fridges are, just vertical root cellars.
