I have a Compaq IJ900 that has worked fine for over 2 years. Suddenly it just sits there like a rock while on the screen the jobs just slowly go through the queue as if they were printing.
I put the printer on my laptop...same results.
I borrowed the same printer from a client and put it straight to the laptop and it does the same damn shit.
Neither one will print a test page or anything, but the computer can tell me when they are on/off line.
Is it possible for a virus to fuck up your printer port???
As a CPA, the only tangible product I can produce for my clients is on paper and this non-printing is pissing me way the hell off.
Help please! (Cpmpaq support has been useless...they say take the printer in for service)

PC load letter? What the fuck does PC load letter mean?

I admit it, I'm a Michael Bolton fan! I celebrate the guy's entire collection! For my money it doesn't get any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman"!

1. Make sure the printer is online and bidirectional support is enabled in your computer.
2. Reload the drivers for your printer port (LPT1 in most cases) or plug another external device, like a scanner, zip drive, etc. into that port and test it.
3. Delete your printer out of your Printers folder, but don't retart your computer yet. Click on Add Printer and reinstall your printer. If you're printing from a DOS program, make sure you specify that during installation.
4. Change your spool settings. Some programs don't print to a spooler very well. Change your spool settings to print directly to the printer.(AKA printing raw)
5. Check your port settings in CMOS. It's possible your LPT port has been disabled or modified unto destruction.
6. www.pricewatch.com and build yourself a real computer.

First off I'm assuming you're running a Windows Platform. If not, I can't help you.
At startup, you can press [del] or [F1] or whatever it says, to enter setup. Do that.
Different CMOS chipsets look different so I'm not sure exactly what heading your ports are going to be listed under. In mine it's under the Peripherals heading. If you don't have a Peripherals heading, just enter different areas until you see the setup for your com ports and LPT ports. Make sure the ports are not disabled and are not using the same resources (IRQ, IO).
It really sounds to me like you have a communications problem. i.e. Bad port, bad port drivers, bad cable, faulty printer settings. I know with our HP LJ4, the settings are a bit particular. If we don't have it set to start printing after the first page is spooled, it won't print out of some programs unless you are printing more than 5 pages and then it ignores the first 3 pages.
Now you hooked your printer to two different computers that you own and neither would work, right? Then you borrowed an identical printer from a client and hooked it to your laptop and it wouldn't print, right? Did you ever hook your printer to someone else's computer? During your printer swapping/testing, did you always use the same printer cable? If so, try swapping printer cables with someone and see if your cable works on a different computer/printer as well as seeing if someone else's cable will work on your computer/printer setup.

And it doesn't bother you that you will never know the reason for the problem? Hell, I worked three days on my electric coffee maker when it quit and never did find out the answer. My wife got tired of it, went to Walmart, put down the 10 bucks on a new one so we can have coffee without me going through boiling the water and pouring it through the filter, etc.
I can't throw that sucker away. It is now somewhere in a box and if I ever find that box I am gonna fix that fucker!
From your vantage point, it is like rounding off to the nearest dollar. You really never know what the true number is, do you? And you can live with that? What kind of bean counter are you? http://www.hostboard.com/forums/
