'King of the Hill' Creator: 10th Season the Last
Thursday, September 08, 2005
By Michael Starr
"King of the Hill" (search) creator Mike Judge (search) says this season, the show's 10th, will be its last.
"There is an end in sight here," Judge told the Post Wednesday. "I think 10 [seasons] is a good, round number."
FOX officially says that "No decisions have been made regarding the future of 'King of the Hill.' " But whatever the show's future, its fans are, no doubt, anticipating the upcoming Sept. 18 season premiere.
"The only storyline we have right now is Luanne starts going out with this guy, Lucky. Tom Petty (search) does the voice," Judge said. "He's a character we had season-before-last, and we just loved the character and the way Petty did his voice. It felt like it really fit."
That's an apt metaphor for "King of the Hill," which carved out a comfortable prime-time niche over the years mixing character-driven, low-key comedy and (occasional) pathos into the lives of patriotic Texas propane salesman Hank Hill, wife Peggy, son Bobby and pals Boomhauer, Bill and Dale.
The show has often focused on the relationship between Hank and Bobby "? whose decidedly un-Texas-like behavior has often perplexed his dad.
"I think there was a while there when some of the writers were pushing Bobby as being, whatever the polite term is, a sissy, and that went a little too far," Judge said. "I like it better when Bobby's a weird kid who worries Hank, but [Hank] still loves him a lot."
So what, Judge was asked, does he think the show's legacy will be?
"That at a time when TV was constantly trying to shock everybody all the time, we had a show that was kind of a quiet hit and was portraying normal, unhip middle-Americans with dignity "? instead of just making fun of them in a crass way."

Re: Sad day......
I wish you wouldn't have posted that. I love King of the Hill, and would hate to see it go.

Re: Sad day......
We're going to have to gang up on Burrhead and let him know we're not going to put up with his old fogey behind anymore.
Maybe it'll come back like Family Guy did. Being that it's Mike Judge though, the way he killed Beavis and Butthead at the height of it's popularity, I'd doubt it.

Yeah, we love things from Texas spuds. Bush, oil, King of the Hill, and the Cowboys. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Re: Sad day......
I'd a made a good Jethro, "Texas Tea- oil that is" wonder whatever happened to ole Max?

Re: Sad day......
Jr. is living out in Hollywood somewhere I would say. He never did get over the Jethro stigma to hit it big like he had hoped though. He hated that part, and mainly stereotype, like Bob dislike Gilligan, and Don with Barney.

Re: Sad day......
That's a bummer. I guess I'm going to have to go out and grab me a 6pack of Alamo beer and try to wash away my sadness.

Re: Sad day......
I think he's done some Production work.
-
Re: Sad day......
I always hoped he would make it as the brain surgeon, or double naught spy...
-
Re: Sad day......
Yeah, but his acting career was pretty much shot after Jethro. Still, I am sure he has made enough money off of BH to drown his sorrows anyway.

1x none is naught. 2x none is naught. 3x none is naught. -BH/KofH quote.

Re: Sad day......
Oh yeah, I remember seeing something where he said he couldn't get a "real" acting job after that.
