Best College Football Team Ever

who is it? Think back for a long time, even in the early 1900's because football has evolved over time and changed dramatically...and if you want, throw in who the best college football player of all time was?

I'll list the best coach : Paul "Bear" Bryant

The best college football player that I have personally seen is Barry Sanders at oklahoma state back in 88 but the Kansas Commett Gale Sayers and Syracuse's Jim Brown are right there with him.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish, or Michigan Wolverines, or Bama.

Those are three best teams in the history of college football. They have the highest winning percentage of any teams in the country. I give it up to Irish though, they have so much glory.

What about Walter Payton...it`s arguable he was even better in College than in pro

Knute Rockne hands down, the greatest coach of all time. Record of 105-12. Does it get any better than that?

yeah man...just an individual team so they would pretty much have to be a past national champion, more than likely an undefeated team....but those programs overall, are at the top of my list

tradition is one thing but lets at least put into perspective how important the black athlete is to college football.

and for what its worth Walter Camp had a much higher win percentage than Rockne and Larry Coker is dead even with Rockne with about 4 seasons to go, he could match all percentages Rockne had.

Back in that day and age, the black athletes were around. Its hard to compare apples to oranges. We'd have to ask the great team throughout a set number of years.

I dont mean this racist either. Simple reason why black athletes are so much more bigger, stronger, etc. Back in the slave trading days, they only took slaves that were the strongest, best of the bunch. Also, that's how they continually bred them, the best with the best. I dont mean that racist whatsoever, it's the truth though.

Do you mean if all of our favorite teams strapped it on and lined up across from each other and got it on, who would win? Or do you mean best record?

I think the best college football program of all time is Notre Dame. You had so many great players go through, so much tradition, and so much winning.

The best college coach is Joe Paterno, simply by atrition. He outlived everyone else. But in all seriousness, his personal gain was always second to that of the program. He changed his style of play how many times? He adapted to the world around him and continues to have a winner. Bear Bryant is a legend, and I loved watching Junction Boys, hearing stories about him, and reading about him, but I really have to put Paterno up there. Rockne was amazing, he changed the face of football forever, and I think he's a legend as well.

The best single team of all time? I would argue 1992 Bama with anyone, well at least their defense. They straight up got after people. That one is biased, I saw them play and it just blew my mind. I thought they were the most impressive that I saw on TV or in person.

As much talent as the 2001 'Canes had on the field at one time, I don't think there is ANYONE who can honestly say they wouldn't roll people if they lined up tomorrow with their best and any other team's best.

Mega is on to something with Sanders from OK State. I remember watching some game he played and couldn't help saying "DAAAAMN!!! Did he!? No way! Oh crap, here he goes again!" That was the day I really started liking Sanders. But the best part was he would just hand the ball back to the ref like it was all routine to him.

As far as the black athlete card, be careful of playing it, look at Jimmy "The Greek" who said the same thing you just said, Steer or Rush Limbaugh's comment about Donovan McNabb (McNabb is overrated by the media because they want a good black quarterback) which got him fired (whose comments I totally agree with). It's sad that people get in trouble for stating the truth.

I'm going to agree with your whole post. That was a good post. Rockne/Paterno is a tough one. But I will agree Rockne changed the face of football and is always a legend. Paterno did so much as well. Great Great!

I mean what individual team from a certain year...not a certain program...yeah notre dame is good, but they have had numerous teams that were good...i'mlooking for something like the 2000 Miami Hurricanes or the 1944 Army Black Knights or the '95 Nebraska team....which team had the most talent, or had the best coaching to make them deserve a title such as the best team ever...We can set here and argue all day who the best "program" is, but I was just gonna say the best team e.i. "a certain year"......thought it might be an interesting conversation too see what everyone thought

As much a fan of UT as I am, the 98 team is not even in the top 10 of best all time.

UT was missing the #3 pick in the NFL draft the next draft as well. You never hear that though. The outcome would have been the same had Weinke played or not.
