Re: Final Rankings
Rankings or someone's opinion?
Big difference there, bubba.
-
Re: Final Rankings
Where is Giles? They are SW VA too.
-
Re: Final Rankings
Maybe in his opinion they aren't located in SWVA. All it comes down to is one person's opinion, at least that is what it looks like.
I guarantee if Haysi doesn't win Region D next year, he won't be on here running his yapper. Just like he wasn't running it last year (2004) or the year before. He's a "Sunny Day Boy" if I have ever seen one.
-
Re: Final Rankings
Little touchy aren't we Jager? All he did was post who he thought was the best and you jump on him for no reason. And trust me if we don't win region D next year he might not be on here running his mouth but I sure as hell will be.
On a side note I'd have Honaker a little higher.
-
Re: Final Rankings
BGJ was on here last year and he is a Haysi Fan but has good football insite for the most part. I for one don't look for Haysi to be reagion D champs next year but I did not think they would be there this year either so you never know.
-
Re: Final Rankings
I know some people think Sterling Virginia is SWVA so its all how you look at it I guess.
-
Re: Final Rankings
"Rankings or someone's opinion?
Big difference there, bubba."
Can you tell me what the difference is then? I thought all rankings were someone's opinion or a group of people whether it be the media or whatever. Of course what I posted was just my opinion...any rankings that ANYONE will post is exactly the same thing: OPINION. I didn't say mine was better than anyone elses and I even offered for others to post their's.

Well actually I was posting on this board last year but how would you know anyway since you just registered 2 months ago? Nope I wasn't on here in 2003 because I didn't even know about this board then...I had never even heard of it until last fall.
When talking about southwest va I was going with the area that the most local media considers and what the general consensus would consider "far swva." Far SWVA is probably a more accurate description. The largest newspaper in our area considers SWVA to be the entire Region D, the Southwest District, the Highlands District and the Hogoheegee District. That was the teams that I was considering in my rankings. Anyone else who wants to post theirs can post whoever they want in SWVA for all I care...if you are going to consider Giles SWVA then you might as well include Blacksburg, Christiansburg and the entire Roanoke Valley area including Pulaski County and all the Roanoke City schools.
Not sure what I posted that could have offended anyone but it seemed like "Jager" got a little perturbed...not that I'm worried about it.

Re: Final Rankings
"swap 4 and 5"
Yeah all of them are debatable...you could just as easily say swap 3 and 4. Just an opinion...if you consider Haysi and George Wythe it could go either way but I go with Haysi at #4 because they lost the same amount of games as GW but Haysi went one step farther in the playoffs. Both were spanked by eventual state champion Giles so I don't really see how that a GW team that lost to Lebanon and had to win in overtime just to make it to the Region C championship could be ranked ahead of Haysi...once again just my opinion...if you could explain your thought on that maybe I will agree I don't know.
-
Re: Final Rankings
I agree. 2 thru 10 is interchangable.Having see both GW and Haysi play this season. IMO I just believe GW was a better team. Thats all, nothing personal.
-
Re: Final Rankings
Don't worry I would never take anything on a message board personal unless it had my name in it Out of curiousity which games did you see from each team? Alot of how a team looks depends on who they are playing and what part of the season its in. Some teams look completely different at the end of the season than they did at the beginning...example: Haysi/Honaker...Honaker won the game in September but never really even challenged Haysi in their November playoff meeting.
-
Re: Final Rankings
As for the GW/Lebanon game you mentioned, I just think Lebanon matched up well with GW. Also Lebanon controled Davis (QB) from running wild, and crammed the ball down GW's throat most of the night. It was a very well played ball game on both sides.
-
Re: Final Rankings
I wonder why Lebanon was unable to control Bostic(QB) from Honaker from running wild on them?
-
Re: Final Rankings
Good question. Of course that may have had something to do with first game of the season versus 5th game or whatever it was. Who knows?! I really think Lebanon just wanted that game more.

You dont offend me at all. Its just High school sports.
What I consider Southwest I guess some consider just the West. I consider anyone in Region C and D Southwest. Also anyone in Region 4 and some from 3. But that is our opinions.

Re: Final Rankings
I would put burton in front of GW.
-
Re: Final Rankings
I need to change it. Burton did make the finals.
-
Re: Final Rankings
No Christiansburg, Blacksburg or Pulaski County? If Giles is considered SWVA then you have to consider those areas as well. Parts of Giles County is farther east than Blacksburg or Christiansburg and pretty much the entire county is farther east than Pulaski County.
-
Re: Final Rankings
Saying that Burton made the finals is not really a good rationale for putting them ahead of George Wythe. If thats the case you would have to put Haysi ahead of George Wythe as well because Haysi made the semi-finals. Fact is Burton would not have made the finals if they had to play who Haysi and GW had to play(Giles). Its hard to use that rational because all of these teams play in different divisions. Burton had an easier road to the finals than Haysi, George Wythe or Richlands had because they play in Division 1. If you base rankings in large part on how far a team made it in the playoffs then you almost have to separate your rankings into divisions.

Re: Final Rankings
IMO Burton could have beaten Haysi..
-
Re: Final Rankings
I don't know it would have been a good game but I think I would have to give Haysi the edge in that matchup
-
Re: Final Rankings
It would have been a good game but I don't think Burton's D could've matched us up front. It would've been good to watch their O against our D however
-
Re: Final Rankings
IMO it would have been a low scoring game no doubt..
I think Burton could beat them though.. just an opinion
-
Re: Final Rankings
Defantly Haysi was not head and shoulders above Burton and Burton could without a doubt win a game between the two teams. It would have been a heck of a matchup at least we will get to see it in a coupple of years when Haysi drops to Div 1 It should make Div 1 alot more competave come playoff time
-
Re: Final Rankings
They use to play each other the first week of the season
Burton should play them instead of Castlewood or St.Paul..
-
Re: Final Rankings
I agree it would have been a good game and nice for the fans to get to see the two best teams in the region play each other. Just another reason why realignment is necessary(not the current plan)
-
Re: Final Rankings
I think it would be a good Pickup for Burton but Haysi probably needs to fill out its schedule with AA schools and hope they do well so long as they are in Div 2 where a 9-1 record does not garentee you a playoff spot

Just my opinion like you give yours. C-burg didnt have a good season. I dont know much about Blacksburg and completely forgot about Pulaski. I guess we could throw Salem in there too.
How would you rank Region D and C D1&2 as a top 10?
-
Re: Final Rankings
C'burg 6-5
Pulaski Co. 5-6
B'burg 2-8
Are they reall worthy of ranking against a team that WON the State Championship???

Re: Final Rankings
If you asked would they make the top 10 in swva? I would say yes they would...Pulaski an Christiansburg at least. I heard Christiansburg just drilled PV and I would say Pulaski played a pretty tough schedule and probably would have beaten most teams that ranked in the top 10 in far SWVA.
-
Re: Final Rankings
C-Burg didnt play PV. They did scrimmage but a scrimmage is worthless in seeing who the better team is.
