Two weeks ago you thought he was great and you didn't even put your name on this post.
I don't know the man personnally but i'll say this...These days when your a coach and you lose everyone wants your head on a silver platter...But when your winning they are all right behind you 100%...As I said I dunno the man at all nor do I know his coaching style but if he were undefeated right now nothing would be said bad about the man...Just a thought from an outside source.
Crockett has never won though, thats kind of the point behind this entire thing. I dont blame you I'd want him to stay to so GC can continue beating us.
As I said I didn't know the situation...It has nothing to do with GC...It's that way pretty much everywhere you lose they want your head...You win they think your God...You got to take the good with the bad sometimes...But as I said I dunno the circumstances over their it was just my outside opinion of all coaches pretty much.
He's a nice guy but honestly he cant coach very well. I'm not the only one that thinks this way either, you go to any PV B-ball game and just sit in the stands with your ears open and I'm sure you'll hear it. Most are afraid to say anything but something needs to be done, however I dont think it will. If PV wanted to make a comittment to winning in basketball a change would've been made years ago.
PVfan, how many years back are you referring to? Several changes have been made. There have been four coaches in the last ten years, unless I have left one out. I agree that Crockett isn't much of a coach, but PV basketball has had to fight bad attitudes for years.
Since he got the head coaching job.
The point I'm trying to make is that PV Basketball hasn't changed in over 15-16 years. PV has always been up and down. We have always put talent on the floor, that never turned into a lot of W's. Besides the '98 team, PV's focus has been sorely on football. My opinion is that it will take a young coach who wants to promote basketball and play the politics at the school to turn the program around. What do you think?
Talk about from the Pent House to the Out House! Last year he was LPD COY and the best thing since sliced bread, now they want to run him off because GC beat them and they haven't even played each other yet!
I think some new blood is needed, I personally would be against the Bostics being the Head Coaches at the Boys and Girls programs. I feel both would be much better suited for the job than our current head varsity coaches.
Are you talking about Kori Bostic? Didn't he move to Lee High?
He is still helping coach on the football team.
Yes, Kory is teaching at Lee High. He was screwed over big time. But him and his wife both live in Big Stone. He coaches football and his wife help coaches volley, jv girls basketball, and head tennis coach. They both have been assets to our school and community. Kory needs to be on the sideline whether it's with Crockett or not. I would love to see him the basketball coach. He came from a great program and I agree, there needs to be some new blood. You've got to be willing to be committed to the program and put the time in.
I know Kori and Brandi well. My wife graduated and played ball with Brandi @ Coeburn for four years. Being committed to the program has been the problem not only with the coaches but the players.
Crockett's biggest flaw is that he hardly does anything with his 5th, 6th, and 7th grade boys. Some kids don't even know who he is! I know they have a league called Future Vikings. He needs to support that group 100%. This is his future!! I have been told he has done a little this year but not near enough... Championship teams start early, not late.. Just ask Coach Robbins. He is on the peanut field every day watching young athletes, helping coachs, and he also knows almost all those young kids!!
thas good and all, but there really isnt enough hours in a day for a guy to spend considerin he has to get his varsity team ready, worry bout the jv-the next generation, then the 7 and 8th graders. I mean in the lpd you usually play twice a week, and 8th grade plays on other nights, like monday and wednesday, so when is he or any other coach supposed to go watch the 4-7th graders?
Yes I think the youth is the future, as dumb as that sounds, but that is why you have to have good quality coaches teaching fundamentals to these kids at an early age. I can't count how many coaches I had who it was very obvious they had never played a second, but beggers can't be choosy.
Football coaches have more time to watch the games, for us practice usually ended around 6:30 or so, and as we was comin down to the fieldhouse, Saunders would just take a left and go out and help with the pee-nut football team. Not to mention the younglins at wise usually played on saturday.
You've got to make the time. You can't put open up the gym 10 minutes before practice, then walk out the door when practice is over. Open up the gym during the week, or in the off season and let the kids come in and shoot around. Stay a little after practice is over and work with certain kids on things. You can't just be a coach during the season. You have to put your time in in the off season too. Crockett needs to make the time. If he wants to be successful and have a good program he's got to start young. As for the girls program, they only have a 7th & 8th grade program. Nothing besides that. They'll never have a good program if things don't change
Amen Dukies I think you get it!!! 5th, 6th, 7th grade basketball starts before the varisity can even start practice!! I heard they couldn't even get gym time! The middle school will work with them but you can forget the high school!!!
That is why they have a middle school I thought. The high school gym will already have 4 teams vying for practice time much less a bunch of 5-7 graders. Come on folks, use your head.
Have you ever noticed how many expert coaches are sitting in the stands? As I remember back, PV couldn't wait to lure Crockett away from Appy. He's had some good years and some down, like all coaches. Can you honestly tell me he has a loaded team? There is not a whole lot of experence on this years team. Be patient,PV has a good coach.
He lost SIX alright seniors last year.
Leave the guy alone! Ya'll are old enough to be out there coaching the 5th, 6th, and 7th graders, get out there and teach them something. Crockett has a teaching job and a varsity team to get ready for.

Everybody is sick of Gate City blah, blah , blah. We don't care if they beat the Minnesota Timberwolves. You get it---nobody wants to here another word about Great City. Now is that plain enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hate to tell ya, but as long as they're in the LPD you'll probably have to hear about em. Maybe if the re-districting comes along Clitwood can get away from em then. But until that happens Big Blue is here to stay. And that is plain and simple.

Know the man from years back. My one question would be. If he was Coach of the Year last year. With a senior laden team im assuming, why would you want him gone, with a young team this year.
And it's not always up to the varsity coach to coach to the JV team.
It's good for the coach to be around and see games and practices.
But if you look at most programs from football on. They are modeled to fit the varsity programs.
Sounds like some need to look at a few other coaches to see if their coaching, what the varsity is doing.
And to be totally honest.
Sounds like some want Coach Crockett gone and someone else in based on their own opinions and wants.
Some times you better thank God for what he didn't give you. And be glad with what he did. Some times what you want isn't what you need.

I don't think anyone is reporting anything but scores on Gate City's basketball games. People also reported the scores when they lost to Elizabethton & Virginia High. There's no difference in GC's posters/fans making posts on scores than anyone else posting scores of their own team. I've got an idea for you, if you don't like seeing a post on a Gate City score (when they've won), don't read it - plain and simple. Some people that frequent the board appreciate being kept up on the Gate City athletic squads since they can't be at every function.

Funny thing about it is that Burrhead WANTED & INSTIGATED talk about Gate City whenever they struggled or lost this past football season, but complains when someone reports a Gate City winning basketball score. He says he doesn't like having to read about Gate City yet he is one of the main people outside of Gate City to bring up the Blue Devil athletic program more often than not. I've got gold...i know of another guy who has gold...i also know of about 50+ football players who have brought home gold
tell me, how many clintwood guys (or girls for that matter) have won anything since gate city has come back to the LPD
The answer is none however that has been the case since the mid 80's when our enrollment took a nose dive about the same time as the Pittston strike in 87 the football team graduated 23 seniors in 05 Clintwood HS graduaded under 60 kids.
