To All Nebraska Fans

I think it is time for a coaching change. Bill ain't got what it takes to wear the Husker Red.
My top 5 choices for head coach
1. Paul Johnson, current head coach at Navy - he is a proven winner, won a load of games at Georgia Southern and has done a fine job at navy, runs the flexbone which can work at a big time school in my opinon but adds enough spread concepts in it to make it interesting
2. Skip Holtz - current head coach at ECU, likes to run the spread offense but not a pass heavy coaching style
3. Jim Grobe - Current head coach at Wake Forest, Grobe is an Air Force product who prefers to run mixes the spread offense w/ a bit of the Air Force flexbone ideals well has a good reputation for turning a loser into a contender imagine what he could do w/ a contender
4. Turner Gill, current head coach at Buffalo, was a player and coach at Nebraska and personally got the shaft in my opinion he knows what Husker football is all about and could light a fire under these new kids butts w/ his knowledge of the big red tradition
5. Urban Meyer - current coach at Florida, although you get him away from sunny Florida w/ a pry bar his offense which I have said is a junk offense would be a good fit for Nebraska.

I would really be happy with 1-4 and think they would do a great job but those are my personal picks.

True he has been recruiting very hard but it doesn't matter if you are not a good coach, I mean look at Tennessee. I honestly do not think those choices are jokes and obviously you are not a hugh Husker fan disgracing the name of Turner Gill like that. I can see how getting rid of Solich was a good idea I mean look at his records against Bills. I am by far the biggest Husker fan in SWVA.

I'm not disgracing Gill's name but he will never be head coach of the HUSKERS. I wish him all the luck at Buffalo and I hope he does well. AND YES I AM SW VA's BIGGEST FAN!!!!

btw, Callahan will do just fine...so many programs give up on good coaches simply b/c they dont win games early...it's hard to win games early if you dont have the set of players you want i.e. recruited...wait till he has all his players in and if yall still arent winning then id be asking for a coaching change

I think the flexbone is a very complicated offense that requires two very quick backs and a solid fullback. To stop it you gotta run a base defense and not over pursue. I remember coach jones when he was at PV had PV's scout team offense run without using a ball and just had the defense tackle the backs, when they came out of the backfield. Or so I was told by a former Vike.

I understand he needs "his players". It is hard to coach West Coast w/ a power option team but I don't think he was a good fit to start with. I do recall that the Raiders fired the man I mean come on. I don't think Meyer would leave unless Florida freezes over but he was my top 5 choice. Some of the remarks Callahan has made would be enough to get him canned.

I would be interested to see how the flexbone would work in a major conference. I think your wingbacks would have to be speedsters probably even wr type football players and your fullback would fit the mold of a tailback with the qb being not fast but smart w/ his reads. Norton could use more of the flexbone principals by putting one of them speedsters at qb and run some option. If they throw that in they would be tough in my opinion. They should use a little more misdirection too.

Although I do know this I feel like I don't not need to answer someone who disgraces the name of the Gill like you did. Can you tell me the date and place of the game HAHA the biggest Husker fan in SWVA strikes back!

not many highschoolers grow up dreaming of playing in the flexbone...and not too many anymore dream of going to nebraska...callahan and the west coast is the best fit for now

I agree most kids don't growing of playing in the flexbone mainly because it is a four headed rushing machine so you wouldn't get many big name backs but like I said you don't really need big backs you need speedsters guys who are willing to have like 500 yds rushing and 500 receiving. When I think of a coach for Nebraska I think WWTOT. Anyone who can decipher that will understand why Callahan is not the man.

Coach crappy I mean Cally is a good coach I will admit this and I also think in time Nebraska will be a consistent win 7, 8, 9 team but Cally will never take Nebraska where they need to be.

i don't get at all why you think Callahan isn't a good fit there Herb...if nothing else he can say "look, i know what it takes to get you to the NFL, hop on board and ill take you there" now while Al Groh can say the same thing there are 3 differences....1) Nebraska is a much easier sell than UVa...2) Callahan isn't as piss poor at player development as Al Growth....and 3) it's a known fact that anyone who would pick UVa has to be a homosexual [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I agree with whoever said the Flexbone isn't that exciting to watch. It is a very difficult offense to get adjusted to, but when defenses learn not to over pursue, this offense is highly ineffective. It also is not an offense that is very successful if you get behind by more than 7 points early.

Defenses can key on a certain back, just line up on the opposite side of him, or if he is at fullback, then your "wide receiver-type" wing backs better be great blockers or a good defense can just bring the outside linebackers.

If I was coaching I would rather run a wishbone or power T than a Flexbone, because atleast then the backers and line can't shift and shut down your offense.

Now if you have a team with three or more solid running backs then this offense can win you alot of games because of all the misdirection. However if you are shallow in the depth department or dont have alot of team speed than I would not recommend running this offense.

Like I said I think he will produce winners in time but not powerhouses.

I guess basically time will tell what Cally can do. Not only his coaching abilities but his off the field antics would rub me raw, Tom Osborne had 100x the class of Cally.

IMO, Give Callahan a few more years.
He brought in one of the nations top recruiting classes last year, and is working on another top class this year.
He has brought in some of the best recruiting coaches in the country. Be patient and see what he can do with the talent he is bringing in. Their most talented players will be young, so lets give him a few years to coach, and see how the players develope.


BTW, I've been a Nebraska fan for a long time now.
The first Husker game I watched was in 1993 when Nebraska lost the National title game to FSU, by a field goal.
Then......A QB by the name of Tommy Frazier led nebraska to a couple national titles.


Nebraska fans, myself included were spoiled by the success that Coach Osbourne had........just be patient with Callahan and he'll get us back to being a powerhouse in the big 12.

Those officials should be fired......You have to agree with what herbstreit was saying though.... Theres a big diffrence in calling a game between North Texas and UL Monroe, than there is calling a game between Nebraska and Michigan. A big match-up like that...why not have a crew from a larger conference there?

the refs where horrible all night, not just against michigan though...they called a few bad calls/ no calls against nebraska.
