JJ Kelly 69
Ervinton 52
Pound 19 - Clintwood 16 at the half.
32-32 PHS CHS in OT
Pound wins by 2 in OT.
I take it that the winners of todays games will play?/
if i'm correct when are they going to play
Kelly will play Pound Wed at 7
and the winner there will play the winner of coeburn/grundy and jib/castlewood right?/
To the best of my knowledge, yes
Are there any consolation bracket games in this tourney? For instance, are Clintwood & Ervinton going to have a rematch of the Kiwanis tourney? Not only that, but let's assume that Grundy & Castlewood lose--we could see that matchup...and would also make for a Burton/Coeburn matchup as well in the Semi's...and those are ALWAYS fun.
ALSO--what's admission cost for the tourney?
Each team gets 3 games, admission is $5.00.
Thanks Sportsman...'preciate the info
Hate to tell you buddy, but I don't think it will be Grundy and Castlewood in the consolation game.
Don't think so either pal...pure conjecture on my part. You never know exactly what will happen in a basketball game...bad shooting, bad defense, one team plays over their head, mid-game injuries that shorten your bench, no motivation...tons of variables. That being said, I feel there's a good chance we'll see Burton in that consolation round...but I spoke to someone who's seen Grundy, Castlewood, and Coeburn play, and they told me they thought Coeburn had the best shot out of those 3 of winning this tourney if all 3 played the way they're all capable of. Unbiased opinion too--this dude's from Abingdon.
Castlewood has apparently not been playing to their full potential yet. They have a lot of returning talent, but have lost games that they shouldn't have so far. If they play like they are capable they should win the tourny. If they play like they have been, 1-2 will be good for them.

Clarify for me Stripes, do you mean 1-2 in terms of 1 win, 2 losses out of the 3 guaranteed games or do you mean first or second place?
1 win 2 losses.
Okay--just checking. Thanks for the clarification buddy.
Castlewood beat Norton by about 20 tonight.
and when i left Grundy was up on Coeburn in at the end of the first
not very surprising...on either of those
It appears as though the added practice time for Castlewood helped them out. They can be very good once they start clicking. I just wish they wouldn't click during the district campaign.
rye cove should give them all they can handle this year stripes. (castlewood)
Not if they play like they have been apparently. RC has been squandering games in the 4th apparently.
I have not heard their score from tonights game in the Volunteer tourny, but I am afraid it might have gotten ugly for the Cove.
They have been struggling awful in the 4th Stripes...I've watched most of their home games so far and everutings good until about the last 3 mins of the game
Coeburn had one heck of a Basketball team I can tell ya that
Grundy beat them by 2 I think it was 66-64... Adkins can ball.!
Might of broke his hand. Talked to him after the game. I don't think it will affect him much. Didn't seem to be bothering him too bad. He can drain it, and Grundy has some horses.
Coeburn and Grundy both played a good game, either team could have won, Coeburn came out kinda flat and was down by 17 in the second quarter, but battled back and took the lead a few times. There was alot of fouls called in this game, 3 T's, and i'm not sure what was wrong with the refs, they stopped the game numerous times to talk about something...
Adkins may have broken his hand?
He played great tonight, but he was holding his hand after the game, he might of hurt it at the end during the scuffle for the ball.
oh alright..thanks!
I just talked to him and he didnt bring it up so it's probably alright.
That's what his Dad was saying. Looked pretty swollen. And the ref's were explaining the fouls and such. And it was a very hectic game!

You Ain't Kiddin!!
If Coeburn hadn't of come out flat we'd be talking about a 10 or 12 point win for Coeburn. I mean they went down 24-7 at one point in the first half, came back before the half and the score at the break was 30-19. Coeburn held the lead with about 1:20 to go, 62-61, and just couldn't get anything to fall their way in the last few minutes. The guard for Grundy, #20 (I think Theo Justus is his name) can shoot the basketball. The rest of the guys on that team are nothing but bangers down low...and were throwing pretty unnecessary elbows...ain't gonna say they're dirty players, but they played that way last night. They got away with it in the first half, but not in the 2nd. Complained about EVERY call too...and that finally culminated with two technicals on two different players in the 2nd half for Grundy last night.
Not only did the entire team come out flat, but a major key to Coeburn is Lawson getting on track down low and being in position...he had an off-night. Pate and Adkins both played well on both ends of the floor, except for the couple of times Andrew bounced it off his foot, including near the end.
I said it last night and I'll say it on here...if you were to make a top 10 in the region, Grundy and Council are in it. Coeburn's only losses this year are to non-LPD teams, one on the road by 3, and another at a neutral site by 2. Two losses by a combined 5 points to two of the better teams in the region? I'd still say Coeburn's pretty darn good, and still a valid possibility to win the LPD.
Nothing against Burton, but look for a big Coeburn win tonight. I watched both games last night and we should beat Burton by 5-10 points, if not worse. That being said...Burton/Coeburn is always a big matchup and a highly contested game no matter how it's supposed to go on paper. Should be fun.
I've been very impressed with Coeburn so far this season. However, I was much more impressed with Grundy last night. They have a very strong, physical team and play with a lot of intensity and sometimes agression. The same could be said for Council who really sets the pace for the games.
That being said, I'm still expecting Castlewood to win the tournament title. They are technically the best team I've seen this season - tremendously skilled on both offense and defense.
The Castlewood - Grundy game should be a barn-burner!

Yes, it was a very hectic and a very intense game! But those are the games I like. I hate mismatched games where one team has a 30-pt lead at the half. There's just no excitement in "blow-away" games.
I was kind of surprised to see so few people from Grundy at the game though. If most of the schools had a team that good, they would be rallying behind them!

Grundy is currently in the middle of a 25 team Wresling Turnament so in all liklyhood that is where most of there fan base was at.
does anybody know the schedule of games for tonight???
To the best of my knowledge it goes like this tonight
Clintwood and Ervinton around 4
Coeburn and JIB around 530
Pound and Wise around 7
Castwood and Grundy around 830
I'm going to watch both the Coeburn/Burton and Kelly/Pound games. Not really interested in the other two all that much--plus I can't make it over for the early one.
I think Castlewood rolls over Grundy, for what it's worth.
Wow. Some of their players looked like they could have faired pretty well on the wrestling team. Grundy has some big players on their basketball team.
