Does anyone know these qualifications? Or does it just really depend on who you are; and at what school or sport its in? Did they just make it mandatory after January 1st 2006 that you have to be employed by the county to do this in the LPD? Junior Varsity or Varsity....
Unless they made a new rule.. anyone can help coach a JV team.. because I have a friend who coaches a Jv team..I don;t agree with it.. because the varsity coaches should help out with the JV team to help build for the future..
They should make some assistant Varsity Coaches head the JV team..

If I am not mistaken every paid coach, junior varisty or varisty has to be employeed by the schools. Now Burton on the other hand since they are an individual city, there are no requirements as long as the city approves you.
What about coaches that are not paid do they have to be employed by the school system...?
If you are an assistant I don't think there are any requirements that being said, the school can't pay you, because your salary is directly proportional to what you make during the school year as a teacher.
To answer your question JV coaches do not have to be hired by the school. None of PV's JV Baseball Coaches are hired by PVHS or any other High School in a teaching position.
I have never heard of someone needing to be a teacher or hired by the school to coach a JV team. I'm curious where is the problem at?

U R right they don't have to be employed by the school PVFAN. PV high has gotten good quality help from people like this before.Steve Parsons was last years JV Baseball coach ;Mike Day coaches JV Basketball:though he does drive a bus.... Also there is Jim Holdway that helps coach Girls Varsity and JV softball and hats off to Clendenon for not allow himself to not use Jim because of this all of a sudden rule. Aclose dear friend; ex-classmate;and ex-teammate.of mine was regretfully told today that PV HIGH would not allow him to coach This coming years JV Baseball Team because he is a liability on account of not being employed by the school. He would have been coaching kids that he took to state Dist. 13 10 yr.old all-stars 4 yrs. ago that alone speaks for itself. Look at our football team and look at the baseball team there is lack ; lack of quality coaching in 1 of them.

LOL u call him a coach ;he knows nothing they need to give the kids someone to teach them something...
I think Brandon does the best he can do considering he isn't even allowed to practice on a baseball field.

My buddys name is Tim Baker and he's a good baseball man and can really get the game trough to the kids. he has coached forever he was Ryan Witt's 13,14 and 15 yr.old coach and Ryan is know the ASS. Baseball Coach at PV. Tim is a love him or hate him type guy but he would have been a big asset to PV Baseball. He's alot like Phil Robbins u don't have to like him but respect the man's coaching abilities.

You could have Pete Rose coaching JV Baseball at PV and until they are allowed to practice on a field dont expect great things. Why Coach Kelly thinks the baseball field shouldn't be touched is beyond me. I hope someday kids are actually allowed to practice baseball on a baseball field, not the driver training range or the football practice field.

Bottom Line Buster Taylor would roll over in his grave if he knew how the kids in BSG where treated over a field and program that he lived for and Kelley ruined. Or better yet reaped the benefits of... Rest in peace Buster..u R deeply missed.
I always liked Buster and had alot of respect for him. You never had to wonder what he was thinking, because he sure as heck didn't mind telling you (alot like me-my type of character to deal with). He was respected around the LPD not just as a good baseball man (which he was), but as a good human being as well (this coming from a Kelly fan). It was a sad day for me when I heard of his passing (as I'm sure it was for many more folks than just me)

Go to the schools athletic director and ask them about the qualifications. And you can always go to the school board about the appointments made if your that upset about it. Or so could the person you want as a coach.

From the VHSL Handbook:
27-2-3 (3) COACHES RULE/Interpretation ? A VHSL registered coach is one who (1) through
a special request by the school principal and division superintendent has been registered with
the VHSL Executive Director for one sport season, (2) has been apprised of the VHSL rules
pertaining to the specific sport/activity; and (3) has full coaching status as determined by the
local school board. A volunteer coach is one who (1) does not meet any of the VHSL Coaches
Rule criteria, (2) is not registered with VHSL, (3) is not allowed to be on the team bench,
sidelines, in the press box, in the locker room or involved in any way during any VHSL contest
and (4) is allowed to help the coach or team during practice sessions.
I'm digging through the Wise County Policy Handbook for local info, but the format isn't conducive to a quick search.
The VHSL handbook pretty much sums it up. Once it is in question it is up to the VHSL to make a decision. And their decision will more than likely not suit most.
Because most would not like the idea of not having a say so. We have a lot of asst. volunteer coaches who in reality have no say so according to the VHSL rules, esp. during a real varsity game or as i think a JV game.
Which is up to how the rule is applied at the JV level.

yeah really I know you are new here but 90% of us, especially those with over 500 posts are generally VERY laid back, no need to come on here all hyper and all. But its good to get so more baseball knowledge around here.

I was just pointing out don't get upset. It's Wise Co. politics has taken over the last few years or so. Even now at the lower levels in our schools.

To answer the question "Do coaches have to be employed by the school system?" to be allowed to coach, the answer is no. However all coaching positions have to be recommended by the school principal to the school board, and then each coach(paid, volunteer, etc.) has to be approved by the board.
Lack of "qualified" coaches is becoming a serious problem all across the nation. Too much liability, too much aggravation, too much time involved for most folks.
